Black land ownership in the U.S. has dwindled to critically low numbers. In the past century, Black farmers have lost 14 million acres of agricultural land. That's $326 billion extracted from Black communities.
Join us for a panel discussion on “Gaining Ground,” a new film exploring Black land loss, its lasting effect on Black communities, and the efforts to reclaim their legacy. It will also explore the critical intersection of racial justice, food security, and public policy. Panelists include Director of "Gaining Ground" Eternal Polk, P.J. Haynie, a farmer featured in the film, and Global HR Director at John Deere, Johane J. Domersant. The discussion will be moderated by Andrew Kahrl, professor of history and African American Studies at the University of Virginia.
