Wheat harvest is a busy time in the fields of Western Kentucky with large class 9 543 hp 400 bu. JOHN DEERE S690 combines harvesting the crop with 45ft wide MacDon FD75-D Flex Draper heads. Running right behind the the combines are 620 hp JOHN DEERE 9620R tractors seeding a second crop of soybeans with 60ft HORSCH ANDERSON air drills and 500 bu. commodity carts. To harvest and seed 11,000 acres of wheat and double crop soybeans the farm in this video runs 7 combines, 4 grain carts and 4 air drills.

Jason I ran a John Deere 8120 tractor with tinted windows to pull an A&L F705 700 bushel grain cart for wheat harvest this year. I had to keep up with 2 JD 9660 STS combines (1 has a Bullet Rotor) and 1 JD 9760 STS combine and the headers we used were 2 JD 630F 30' flex headers, and the Bullet Rotor combine used a 635D 35' rigid draper head. As we were harvesting wheat, the farm uses a JD 9220 syndro transmission tractor to pull a JD 1900 TBT (Tow Between) air cart and a JD 1860 36' air seeder to plant double crop soybeans, and one of their sons used it to plant double crop milo. Edit: The two brothers I work for farm around 1000-1200 out of 1500 total acres of wheat, their oldest brother had around 400-500 out of 800 total acres of wheat, and one of their sons had around 600-700 acres of wheat. The 2 brothers I work for own a dairy farm, so they always plant corn every year

In the Mississippi Delta a sharecropper would farm about 26 acres of cotton. The land provided for him and his family. he could buy food at the store on credit and pay the bill after harvest. After he paid the land owner and the store what was left over was profit. One land owner eventually bought a tractor and it replaced 8 sharecroppers. In later years the average farm was 213 acres. Then John Deere came out with the 4010 and 4020. The average farm increased in size. As you drive through the Midwest small towns are getting smaller with population decreasing 20-40%. One farmer, which today is family farm, they farm 2-7000 acres. Mike Mitchell in Canada farms 50,000 acres. Garrett farms farms 20,000 + 10,000 second crop beans. My grandfather retired at the end of 1966 and farmed 155 acres. The Millennial Farmer planted 155 acres of corn in one day. Modern equipment has changed the face of America not only on technology but in population. When I attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville i cold not comprehend the size of the small towns in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Mississippi. Everybody’s dream was to go to the University, meet someone and get married. A lot stayed in Fayetteville which has really increased in size and population.

@joegotz1971
@joegotz1971 10 ай бұрын
@@kurtweber4813 Well, you can’t blame me for that one. In the late 60’s and 70’ I worked for potato farmers, they grew about 600 acres of potatoes and the west in wheat and beans. We would start digging potatoes in early July. I went back to college at the end of August and they would finish digging sometime in November. The potatoes we dug in the summer most went to Frito Lay for potato chips. The remainder were baking potatoes or went to restaurants. The Jimmy Carter years killed grain prices and farmland prices, and in some respects the agricultural machinery business, tractors, combines, planters. The more you watch these videos the more you learn.

Amazing machine and you'd be surprised at the amount of followers you would gain in covering this area of agricultural. #onlyredtractorsonmyfarm #foodplottersgiveback #CaseIH

I was interested to see the grill design on those big tractors is the same as on my 25-year old JD 870 compact tractor, just 20 or so times bigger. It's very effective at maintaining air flow even when covered with chaff. I guess if something works, why change it? Mine has never over-heated even when well covered with mower chaff.

The straw distribution of the combines is quite poor. I’m surprised this isn’t a problem for the soybeans. In other places you often see a straw harrow being used for additional distribution.
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 10 ай бұрын
The straw is not an issue. Because they are planting into higher moisture straw right behind the combine that is why they run the Horsch Drill. This hoe style drill plows the straw right out of the seed bed. The straw is left in 30 inch spacing which holds moisture in the ground and reduces weed growth. In the fall the combine cuts the beans and re cuts the wheat straw disturbing it across the field. The farm subsoils the field after soybeans harvest 18 inches deep to break the compaction for two plantings and two harvests in one year. The following spring they plant corn.

@constructionwatcher5381

Look at the grain piling up in his hopper. He couldn't make it to the end without running over. But he only partly unloaded because the cart behind was nearly full too. That's why the second cart positioned himself for unloading right after the combine turned around.
@jamesbarbour8400
@jamesbarbour8400 10 ай бұрын
@@constructionwatcher5381 I understand both your points entirely but I mean for such a short run left, there surely would have been a smidgen more room in that hopper for that little bit. Also cutting right out to the end of the row would have negated having to turn around in such a confined space. Did also wonder why the grain cart pulled up to let him unload when it was practically full itself ?
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 10 ай бұрын
There was not any room left to run any more with out spilling grain. The combine tops of one cart and if you watch to next drill clip you can see the second one being filled in the back ground. I included this clip to show different types of field operations.
