I've known Rick since his 30k subscriber days... and over the last eight years, he has amassed more than 2.6 million subscribers. The only thing that hasn't changed is the relentless support and encouragement he's given me and my channel over the years. Thank you my friend for all the kind words you have said about my work and I look very forward to reaching 2 million subscribers on my Fried Eggs Golf channel... by the year 3016.

I was fortunate enough to be at LIV Greenbrier this weekend, got Bryson and Phil’s autographs, and got to witness Bryson shoot 58. I will say that I had an overall more enjoyable experience at LIV than any PGA event I’ve been too. I love watching incredible golf and the overall energy is just so great. I did think the whole time though that if you are strictly there to watch as much golf as you possibly can, go to a PGA tournament but I personally would rather go to LIV. Much more affordable and an amazing time.

My wife and I were there all 3 rounds at The Greenbrier and we brought our sweet little white poochon pup. LIV was kind enough to allow us to bring her. She was on the broadcast and highlights every day apparently. We followed Bryson all 54 holes. It was a driving exhibition the likes I have never seen. Talk about long and straight. I have been to many PGA Tour events as well. The crowd was big, the golf course and golf was excellent. They play quickly relative to the PGA Tour. It was a joy to attend....

The team concept of LIV is very much part of the US pro tour scene. All of the universities have golf TEAMS that compete as teams and encourage the esprit de corps inherent in such a competition. Also an interesting aspect is that a golfer that is "out of it" for the individual can still help his team place and even win. Everyone contributes. Team golf, Ryder and President's cups are all of the same ilk, they bring highly individual competitors together. Win, win.

I watched a Bryson video on his YT channel yesterday where he played a 2v2 with one of his teammates against Phil Mickelson and one of Phil's teammates. While I know we aren't big on the team thing, it feels like they have leaned into it quite a bit. You could see the comradere the were starting to build and how they were cheering each other on. In a sport that is so dominated by the 1v1 nature of it, it's kinda cool to see this style that's much more Rider cup-esque.

Got to say that watching Bryson make a 58 was incredible and something you won’t see again for a long time. The team aspect is actually really good, I know you both don’t get it, but then say you look forward to the Ryder cup which is a team event, so you have to look at the teams individually and see the competition as a team and not just as an individual performance. At least with LIV, everyone can watch it for free and not have to pay a monthly price to watch PGA tour comps from all the big sports broadcasters. LIV are clearly doing more to try and get more people into golf including giving people that chance to watch it.
@IamKnowbodie

For me if you do not like the team aspect is merely down to the fact that you have not chosen a team yet. These guys love the Ryder Cup because they have a team they support and are emotionally connected to that team. Not sure why they not Majesticks fans?

You wont see a 58 for a long time because you will almost never see such an easy course and conditions ever again. Over the whole 3 days not a single person shot a single round over par. Bryson had a tough year last year with losing his Father. A lot was said about him losing his form after taking the LIV money, but i'm sure they didn't know what his family was going through and it was bound to have an effect on his season. He's BAAAACK now, lighting it up with that KRANK driver and hitting bombs!! That 2 V 2 with Phil Mickelson was great and I'm looking forward to more of those videos. The LIV golf style of play definitely has it's place in today's golf world, it might bring more young people to the game and isn't that what the sport needs to grow? Golf in general has had a HUGE blow to its ratings since the announcement of the potential merger of golf leagues. Golf is a small niche sport, and the merger has lost the attention of the public. People here in America just have too many sports options and LIV isn’t really taking off here. They can’t even beat the WNBA in attendance or viewership! Hard to make something work without the American sports fans who watch the most and spend the most per capita on sports.

I was a LIV hater for the longest time but ever since PGA accepted their money i think of them as the same. This was the second LIV tournament I have watched and for me it's significantly better than the PGA format. LIV has a more party atmosphere, and they lean into it when each player has their walk on music. I was also against to the shotgun approach at first but what I do like about it is that it's not as much of a time commitment and I can watch all the players at the same time rather than having to watch the first tee off and it take forever to get the tournament started. not sure I can speak to the team aspect but to me it feels like they are two separate competitions, the individual vs the team. I think LIV also does a better job of showing the players talk through a put and the live putt tracer is pretty cool.

I almost exclusively watch LIV now except for the Majors and some highlights if something big happens on the PGA. Just find it so much more easy to watch and enjoy. Always been a huge fan of Bryson and this weekend has shown that when he is on it, he is the man to beat on any tour. His driving was of course great, but his putting was just phenomenal as was his short game. It feels that LIV is truly gaining some traction and this weekend has only afded fuel to the fire. As a later edit, the team aspect is definitely enjoyed by those who are much more in to LIV as a product. It's a well supported aspect. Also, we still all enjoy the game of golf, no one wants to see the sport and traditions decimated, just improved 👍

LIV does something that the PGA isn't oriented to do. The PGA desperately wants ONE HERO to worship, like Tiger Woods. There is no one like Tiger Woods. It's not Rory McIlroy. It's not John Rahm. The nature of golf is that there are many fantastic players and on any given Sunday, one of these guys could play fantastic golf or just excellent golf and win the tournament. There are ten or a dozen guys in LIV that could win a Major on any given Sunday. There isn't one guy that's going to win most majors. I like LIV because it doesn't hero worship and push any one guy. Lastly, Bryson hitting thousands of golf balls reminds me of the greatest ball striker of all time, Moe Norman. In his late 60's Moe Norman could hit the ball straight over 300 yards. Someone asked him if he could hit it 400 yards, he responded, "I could, but I can't guarantee where it would go." If Bryson figures that out, which maybe he did, he will continue to be at the top.

Listen, if you haven't watched LIV, you won't grasp its appeal. It's like me not understanding the NFL or MLB because I've not grown up with it, it does not mean it is not great. Once you immerse yourself in the team dynamics of LIV, witnessing underdogs defeat teams like the Aces, you'll start to appreciate the team aspect. You're primarily looking at individual players because that's familiar to you. LIV golf is thriving; it doesn't need any rescuing in my opinion. It's important to recognize that many experience LIV from diverse perspectives, not just your own.

I was just having this convo with a young guy, about 20yo, who's an assistant pro in a very exclusive and very private (100 members or so) golf course in my area. I was playing on my own that day and got paired up with him and another young guy at the turn who were competing in some type of loose tournament format and playing head to head. Nice kids, they could hit the ball a ton. I asked the assistant pro kid this same question that you were pondering in here and I think it's a great question and one that's always stupefied me: What keeps these guys SO motivated to grind all the time -- how do they stay focused or even interested in the game? He admitted that he's lost his way before and stopped liking it and that ebbs and flows. I think these guys or anyone on the grind with serious aspirations must have an inordinate amount of OCD or borderline madness in their mental makeup. Same for anyone who excels far and beyond the average person in any pursuit, especially these days when the population is larger than ever and we're more global than ever. Talent pool has become a talent ocean. So, anyone up near the top, in golf or anything, is insanely talented with an emphasis on "insane", IMHO. Awesome topic and should be discussed more often, candidly.

As I understand it Ping contacted Bryson and invited him down for a custom set of irons with all the tinkering he wanted to do. He came out with a one-length set made to his specs within a few days. Krank make the Formula Fire LD (long drive) version that Bryson uses and another USGA-conforming driver. They also have 2 high COR drivers for slower swing speeds that do not conform. As of this writing they are discounting the Fire drivers and fairways $150 which gets the drivers down to $399. They’ll also sell you just the head if you like for $429 regular price. Not sure if they’re discounting just the head. I have a pre-owned Krank Element (later branded as Formula 5) that I picked up cheap. Of my 5 drivers (others are PXG, Honma, Yamaha, Miura) it’s the most forgiving (and the loudest) and everyone who’s tried it so far is surprised at the forgiveness.

I think the Fire That still lights the belly is the sheer love for the Game, they are all playing professional. You don‘t get to That Level if you have Never had the Love for the Game, or if you wouldn‘t enjoy practicing and hitting balls. And living out that Love for the Game on the highest Level of competitiveness is probably the reason why they are still doing it

Ahhhhhhh Guy is so very very PGA maxi minded still. Open up your mind and set the past in the present. This win by Bryson with 58 was incredible and aside of that a win for the one length clubs users and you should know that. Loved it all the way ... and really embrase LIV as it changes everything up and is just a great entertainment. Just like long drive championships are also beneficial for golf too. Snap out of it, Talor Gooch was a multiple LIV winner and that he is not named is terrible. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

Funny you were talking about old clubs. Just took my R7 Quad, Burner Bubble 2 and Ping 425 LST to the SIM today. Amazingly with my 100ish mph swing speed the difference was only 20ish yards. Older clubs are heavier and easier to swing faster with same effort but still shorter.

In regards to player's continuing to drive...this is the same in almost every other sport too. Most players know they're not the best or their chances of winning the title are very low, but they just love competing. How many athletes play well past their prime? Almost all of them. The two reasons I've heard from athletes on why they stopped is either their body can't do it any more or their lost their drive to compete. It's almost never about not being the best.

Rick and Guy don't 'get' the team element of LIV cos they don't watch the broadcast for any amount of time. If you watch the whole thing you will 'get' the tension when the team comp is close and how it can change really quickly - regardless of whether you support a particular team or not. I really like LIV and in particular the commentary which is much more dynamic and fun and of course the fact that there isn't an ad break every five minutes is a huge plus. I find the PGA coverage tired and a bit boring if im honest.

I was at LIV Bedminster NJ at Trump National. It is a phenomenal event.... It has more of a festival or carnival feel than a PGA country club feel. It was very kid friendly.. Had ball crawl, airbrush tattoos, mini golf, baseball pitch speed radar, golf ball speed radar, bean bags and big screen tv, live DJ music, lots of food trucks, and an all around party feel. Definitely going to attract a younger audience. People who don't care about golf, but like the social scene. Looked like a lot of fraternity age boys and girls. Tik Tok video age kids. Spectacular golf.. Some of the absolute best players in the world... Shotgun start is so much better than PGA's 7:15am start... LIV has a lot of great things going for it.. Not much negative. If you don't need to see douchebags like rory, then LIV is a great field. Bryson, DJ, Phil, Patrick, Cam... Just a great lineup of great players. I went to the PGA Championship and I went to LIV Bedminster.... PGA is the bigger more established tour, but LIV has a much better more laid back atmosphere. I'll always love the PGA of course, just like any golf fan. But I'm also a big fan of LIV,, They have a great product, and put on a top of the line event. Two thumbs up for the LIV event.

I know its not traditional and people hate change, but i think fans of other sports will get LIV easier than the tour. you know who is playing when you watch NFL and who the competition is. the team element is great when you watch the event, it makes guys down on the leaderboard interesting during the broadcast. if you dont watch and just looking at results i can see how the team aspect isnt engaging. players though seem to like having a team around them

If Guy hasn't attended a LIV event then that would partly explain his lack of understanding of the teams concept in LIV. I acknowledge it may not come through on TV as well as in person. We attended all 3 days of LIV Adelaide and the teams concept was strong. It was obvious to the course audience that the players were highly motivated by the teams event all the way through to the last putt on the last day. Whereas at a traditional golf event (4days of stroke, individual) the crowd interest on the 4th day is almost entirely on the last 2 groups and cursory interest in a few higher profile golfers. At the LIV events, there are players in groups across the entire course whose score on each hole is actively feeding into the Teams event scoring and the crowd are following the changes on big screens on every hole. As for the Lee Westwood mention, he shot +20 at Bedminster so I hope he can find his groove soon as the golf world would be thrilled to see him really compete again.

Here is my take on the fire in the belly question. I have been told I play to my competition if I am playing with a group high handicappers i score high. If I play with good golfer I score lower. Imagine a tour player playing at the home course, Who is going to give them competition? Once you reach that level who else can give you any competition at all on a regular basis?

The play was great by Bryson, but I think it's a testament to the way LIV has been setting up their golf courses too. The guys utterly destroyed the Greenbrier, as it was just a birdie fest of them throwing darts, at pin after pin. Fantastic play indeed! But Bryson almost had 2 rounds in the 50's with a 61 in his 2nd round also. They need to set the courses up a bit tougher, otherwise this will happen again sooner than we think.

The PGA had many events on this same course. I think the first year the PGA was there someone shot a 59 so it is a course you can go low on. Yes, it is a par 70 but it is still 7200 yards. They filmed a 2V2 with Bryson and Anairban Lahiri vs Phil and Cameron Tringale and the amount of thought they were putting into their approach shots to get it to the right portion of the greens showed it wasn't just some course you could just pop it to the middle of the green and guarantee par every time. Was a very fun watch, especially listening to the thought process on those shots.

Q? What does it take for golf lovers to say LIV are great players and the golf is out of this world. Do they have to win a major? Do they have to be inducted into the hall of fame? do they have to compete against some of the best golfers in the world every time they play? do they have to hit a 58? The answer of course to all of those questions is LIV has been doing all of this from day one and yet you two guys just can't seem to get your head around the LIV concept. Is it golf or isn't it golf? Is it competitive or isn't it competitive? Seems pretty clear to me and many others.

Granted Bryson had a great round to shoot 58 and there seems to be a lot of buzz about it , strange thou Stuart Appleby shot a 59 at the Greenbrier in 2010 hitting it much shorter with a Driver that has a lot less tech , to me Appleby's 59 might be even more impressive having to hit much longer irons in than Bryson's.I don't think a few great rounds on a course that the pros eat up make him a great Ryder cup pick thou but if he is picked its always fun watching him Krank It !!
