Ppl outside of golf find time to play golf and practice outside of our normal work week. I think because you work within the golf world, it makes it less appealing to commit to make the range etc? Also… I’ve played golf for 30 years… there’s nothing in my life I have done for that long and still been average 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣. All that said, it’s things like this makes your content relatable! 👍🏻 Keep going Rick.. a once in a lifetime round is coming!

Everyone goes through highs and lows with their golf game, often you get one part sorted and then something else crops up. As for people commenting on Ricks appearance etc, that is totally out of order in my opinion.

The thing that makes Rick so relatable is his honesty and the fact that all us golfers can identify with his suffering and our game mirrors his - I was worrying when he had his lessons with Dan Grieve that he would become a short game demon and I’d no longer ‘do a Rick’ when I fluffed it

Rick, I don’t know if you’ll read this comment, but thank you for all that you’ve done for the golf community. I have been following you from the pre-beard years and I have enjoyed your best rounds and I’ve weirdly enjoyed your bad ones even more. I can hear the emotions in your speech and it hurts to see the toll that this has taken on you and it’s even worse to see that it’s amplified by the very people you do it for. Never stop being you because that’s what makes your channel what it is. Not the golf, but you. And to the people who take the time to actually type out negative comments on someone who’s made it their job to entertain you at no cost to you, seek help bro.

I am not really bothered what Rick shoots. It's what these videos bring to us with regards great golf courses, factor of the wind and what the greens are like is what's important. Your telling us a story and we love it. The content is superb and this series I think is the heartbeat of your channel. If you shoot 69, or 79 doesn't matter. Your game will improve as will your scores, but your struggles are just as important to us as your best rounds. We can relate. Please keep this series going. It's magnificent.❤

This shows how self aware and how much humility Rick has. Kudos for addressing how you haven’t been happy with what you’ve shot and how you feel physically. Guys, I just want to say to you both is this. I have been a fan for just over a year, and your channel has changed my life for the better. I broke my back some years ago, and to be quite honest, I had pretty much given up on life thinking I would never be the same. I was for the most part just sitting around waiting to die just eating my feelings. One day I opened KZfaq just looking for something to curb my boredom when I came across a Golf Bidder challenge video. From there I went to the channel and started watching all kind of different videos from reviews to break 75. Those videos sparked something in me that I thought was gone and they helped me begin to make a change in my life to lose weight and get back on the golf course. My life is changing more and more every day because of your channels and others I watch as well, but it started with the Rick shiels golf channel. I feel like you saved my life guys for real. I would like for you to think of the lives your changing and enjoy yourselves playing golf and reviewing equipment. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you, Thank you THANK YOU!!!!! I love all your channels and all the videos.

Also, as viewers/fans etc, it can be so easy to forget that Rick is just a human being. He has a family, needs work/life balance, must have stresses that we can all relate to. And we can relate to some of (well for me a lot of) the things he talks about in this video in terms of not feeling great about yourself and not having the correct priorities. I could feel the hurt and pain in the video but that brutal honesty is why Rick is universally loved. We all go through times like this and what makes us as people is how we get through the bad periods. You have the support of everyone mate! Don't be hard on yourself. It will come good with time

Break 75 is a blast to watch. Even if sometimes it’s the break Rick series. The bucket list courses are proper hard. Not to mention I think Rick plays from the tips. I played a course the other day where I scored lower than my handicap but my handicap went up. It’s all good Rick. We still love you.
@NicoKristianLund
@NicoKristianLund Жыл бұрын
Your handicap went up because you lost a better round from you calculated 8 rounds for you handicap. I can provide an example myself. I started the last round of a tournament in 0,8, shot 71(-1), and kept my handicap. The round corresponds to a +1,1 hcp, but my 20th round before that round was a round corresponding to +1, so I essentially just replaced good with good. Had i shot a bad round, I would have went up, since I would have had another round in my last 20 replace it.

Rick, you are clearly a talented professional. We all want to be better golfers, and I'm sure most of your your subscribers want to see your very best golf because it inspires us to be better too. You are better than many of us. But sometimes our day jobs and home lives dominate our time and we fail to dedicate time to continually develop the skills that got us where we are today. Work out the balance. Delegate to make time for development and you will be breaking 75 with ease. Its worth a video series in itself because everyone who wants to be a better golfer struggles to find the time to be as good as we can be. You can do it and show us how. Thanks for the great content. Break 70.

Anyone hating on Rick like “oh his golf game is regressing” or “ he is putting on weight”… they’re just jealous because they think “well I shoot 90, I should be making millions and hanging out with tour pros on the best golf courses in the world”. And they’re just ignoring how much talent and effort it takes to be where Rick is professionally. I say carry on Rick, keep doing you buddy. This channel is what it is because you’re a real guy with a real life and you’re facing the same issues “normal” everyday people face. This is just a chapter of your life, and when you’re consistently shooting in the 70s again, and you’re fitter than you’ve ever been, the trolls will find something new to pick at. So just carry on my man.

no one shooting in the 90s thinks they deserve to be around tour pros making millions playing the best courses in the world. where on earth did you pull that from? some people just want to see rick play better, because he could easily be shooting low 70s almost every round. if he put a few hours a week on grinding his game itd be easy for him, but he refuses to and continues to play terrible golf. he should want to play better, hes the biggest channel in the world. theres no excuse, he could make it a series for his channel. he just needs to start playing better, period.

Long, but highly pertinent to this show's subject. I started working with my grandson 6 years ago to teach him golf basics. Much to my delight, he not only showed enjoyment, but some real talent. He has now surpassed my teaching ability, so I've hired a professional coach for him and he's playing the Jr PGA tournaments in Colorado this year for the first time. He's just 15 and shooting mid to high 70's on his good days, and still works very hard to keep improving. It's a true blessing to see his development. Do I sound like a proud grandpa? So here's where you fit in. He has a professional coach to deal with mechanics and fine-tuning his swing. But I've had him watching your videos for years. Why? Because the one thing I keep telling him is to simply enjoy the sport, the environment, his playing partners. And appreciate being outdoors in a beautiful setting away from other pressures of life. I continually point out that even when you suffer through a bad round of Break 75, it is so abundantly clear that you still enjoy the game, the challenge, your playing partners. And similarly, the joy you openly show when you play really well is terrific to see. And you take joy in your partners hitting great shots as well. So far beyond the issues of teaching golf mechanics, you are a tremendous role model, whether you are in the groove, or down in the dumps about your golf. Most importantly, stay who you are regardless of scores. I've told my grandson many times -- be the guy other people want to play with because they enjoy your company on the course; be Rick Shiels. And BTW, he and I have watched your long video with Ian Poulter twice now. Exactly as I described above, Ian showed he shares your joy for the game and everything about it. He very poignantly showed that a focused professional can still be playful and a gentleman, yet turn on the competitive juices when needed, yet still be a fun playing partner. That was a tremendously inspirational video. Keep 'em coming!! Bob Beckes Lone Tree, Colorado USA and a big fan!

Rick. I have been playing golf since I was 14 years old. I am now 66. In these days, I could never break 80, never mind 75. I realize that you feel you are struggling and by your standards maybe you are, but what you need to realize is that most of us struggle a lot worse than you. And to top it off, you are hitting from the back tees. You know, you could edit your videos and show only your good shots. But let's be honest, the average golfer that is watching your videos, hits a lot more bad shots than you. And for me, watching you hit a bad shot and then be able to recover is very enjoyable and encouraging. I would rather watch someone like you, than say a scratch golfer every week. As a PGA of Canada professional that's somewhat leaving the industry, I feel stuff like this immensely. We are put under unrealistic expectations of playing well 100% of the time, incredible criticisms when we don't play well, and the mental side of the mental game plays torments us. On top of that add in balancing a job, family (father of 2 young girls), other commitments (town council, committees, etc.), and teach golf lessons, there literally isn't time to practice or exercise unless we don't sleep or don't work. I feel for ya Rick, keep doing what you're doing as it's incredible what you've built and grown. The good golf will come and you're putting work into it.

I love your work. I've learned so much. My game has improved so much. One of your main points in doing equipment reviews is that you give "real, honest, unbiased feedback." In something like Break 75 we also get "real, honest, unbiased golf." You could edit out bad shots and play another ball and we'd never know. But you don't. As you say "Golf is hard." The wind, rain and cold make it even harder. You play courses you've never seen before. That's hard. You spend time "working" (running a business) instead of practicing golf. We deal with the balance of work, family, budget and golf too. We get bad lies. We understand hard greens on which the ball won't stop and bunkers that take multiple strokes to get out of. We've all groaned while watching the ball slice out of bounds. We know the frustration of planning a chip so carefully and then fatting it half the distance or blading it twice the distance. We've all had putts stop 5 feet short, run 5 feet past, stop 1/2" short of the middle of the hole or lip around but not fall. We neither hope for your failure nor cheer when it happens. We feel it because we know it. And we still play on. Keep going, Rick. Strong finish! There's a birdie on #17 still out there.

I love the honesty. It’s always shocking how many “avid” golfers have no idea the difference between a PGA Pro and a PGA Tour Pro. That and all the Handicap mysteries. Quick story: As a young man I played regularly and got obsessed with golf. I got to the point I could shoot in the 80s regularly then could find no improvement to lower my scores. I hit a wall and when I tried to make changes I just got worse. In short, I gave up. Did not pick up a club for 20 years until last Christmas when I bought a set of clubs for me and for my wife so we could spend time together. I am far from being even as good as I was back then, but it's coming back and I'm getting obsessed again, though I am determined in a more positive way than last time. I will plateau again, and I'm going to remember this video and draw inspiration from it so I don't make the mistake of quitting again.

I respect Rick wanting to keep up a certain level of golf because I know for me, I have the golf bug bad and am constantly trying to improve; I think that is one of most relatable things in golf - trying to improve. So Guy, I know you guys are running a business and, its ultimately about entertainment and views, but it becomes hard to watch someone on KZfaq that doesn't at least to appear to have the bug anymore. Thanks both of you for the honest and deep conversations on this episode. Really appreciate it. Good show

This podcast hit a little hard and is scarily relatable. I love golf but being a similar aged Dad and work/life situation I too have found my golf game has struggled of late - all after a glimmer of hope when i switched focus from running more to golf practice since completing the London Marathon this year. It all comes back to wanting to play your favourite hobby as well as you can - yes it’s fun just playing with mates all the time, but show me one person who likes to fail regularly against your own expectations. I have no answers - we all walk different paths and discover a balance that works for each of us - but I felt like you were almost talking for me today, Rick. I’m sure you will find a solution - you almost always do with the success your life has brought you through your hard work. I just wanted to say thanks for being so honest with your struggles.

Golf is hard, Rick, and I think having a balance in your life, and enjoying all you've built, is not bad place to be. If the golf suffers a bit, I think it just makes you more relatable to the rest of us. Of course, there will always be critics, but you can choose to ignore them. You're the leading KZfaq golf channel, a philanthropist, a father, a husband, a mentor, and a great guy by all accounts. I'd say embrace all of it and don't be too hard on yourself as a golfer.

Rick, I truly appreciate the way you lay it all out for everyone to see. Golf is hard and if all we watched were the tour pros, it could get even more discouraging. Not only are the videos you produce humorous and entertaining, they show that no one is going to get it right 100% of the time. You mentioned that content is your main objective. You continue to check that box on a regular basis. With that in mind, would you consider filming a getting back to breaking 75 series on the HITT channel? With camera phones and affordable launch monitors available, many players have tools for improvement in their golf bag. For me, it would be very helpful to watch someone like you go into the HITT studio and record your swing (top down head on and down the line) and then break down your assessment based on what you see. Detailing what you like and what needs improvement and the work you need to correct it. With launch monitor data, you could also provide ball park numbers that we can use to help our own swing. When you speak, it's clear in your voice how all of this is a serious matter for you. Life, family, work, play etc. it's something we all deal with to some degree or another and just another reason you're such an icon. Good luck with the juggling act and I cant wait to see where you take us all in the future!

Easy Suggestion lads. Do a Vlog of Rick's journey to get back to confident golf. Two people follow him. Rick focuses on practicing. Go to a nice location, have them video him without talking or feeling the need to narrate then do a voice over later. Rick can focus on golf, it's creating content, bringing the fans on the journey and allowing you to still be "working at same time" etc.

We definitely don't watch for the amazing golf! Don't pressure yourself too much! That's only a very small part of the entertainment factor. And, yeah, we definitely root for you when you are starting to play really well, but it's not why we watch! You got me back into golf and I very much appreciated that. You're also still a better golfer than probably 95% of your viewers, haha.

This is why so many people love watching Rick and Guy though, it is so relatable. I personally don’t come to watch Rick shoot 72 each week, I come to watch some entertaining golf and the banter he and Guy have when they are out there enjoying themselves. Of course it’s easier to enjoy it when playing well, so if Rick feels the need and has the time to dedicate to improving, then I hope he goes for it. I would actually enjoy seeing that journey filmed, even if it meant Break 75 was every other week and some practice was in between. I’d also argue he’d be better off going to Break 70 than Break 80, as he joked - if he is just off on a lower target, it’s still good golf. Anyway, pick your head up Rick, awesome content as always!

You pretty much got me into golf. People around me have always golfed and I’ve gone to the range before your videos. But THIS KZfaq channel showed me how enjoyable Golf can be. Now I understand the game, I’ll watch a PGA tournament and actually follow along, I’ll enjoy my practice at a range (sometimes with your videos playing in my earbuds), I’ll come to your channel for helpful tips and gear reviews, and I have a great time with other Golfers. It’s literally opened up a whole new world. Now with all that being said I’m still terrible.

I've been playing my whole life and recently started playing some really bad golf. What I did is got fitted for new shafts and eliminated all swing thoughts. I just let my fundamental swing take over and stopped caring where the ball went. I've been finding the club face way more now b/c I know how to play, I just stopped my brain from getting in my way

You're right Rick, eating well and exercising is the foundation to having the energy to do everything else in life. I love your honesty, every golfer relates to when you're playing badly that it feels like you'll play badly forever and when playing well, you think it will continue forever too, but the form wheel keeps on turning 😂.

FOR BOTH RICK AND GUY Guy: We’ve gotten to see your golf game grow, and we can all tell it’s grown from your friendship with Rick, and that you’ve taken him serious on and off camera as a friend, and professionally. And your swing has developed so properly. The world has loved every second of it. Rick: You have shown us all that you are a very top level class golfer, and even then get the tips like the rest of us scrubs lol. You show and exhibit the very essence of golf that everyone at every level goes through. Start off +5 thru 4, then a mean 4 or 5 par streak followed by a birdie here and there etc… As well as becoming more than just a KZfaq personality. You actually influence the golf WORLD. We love seeing you struggle, don’t get me wrong, and then we get to see you shine. It shows us no matter the knowledge, we all endure obstacles that give us the chance for perseverance. I’m rooting for a Break70 series in the future. Whether it’s in 2023 or 2026, I’ll still be watching daily here in the United States. You’ve helped my game a ton. Unfortunately my putting game has fallen to (IMO) the worst in the world. No fooling, I got no pace control at all anymore and the stroke is horrifying lol. But I get GIR routinely. Even if I’m just playing once in a blue moon. Thank you for the level of dedication you’ve given the golfing community around the world. Hope to see you shoot a bogey free round real soon, as well as get your on camera hole in one. It’s coming. Also, you should do a series with Fat Perez at Pebble Beach for the week. With Guy and Bobby on the bags and let Joey D commentate. That would be epic. Keep it going, and always just send it ⛳️

Rick & Guy are one of the most relatable golf content creators to most "amateur" golfers. Every golfer goes through a phase of not playing your best. Rick love your channel and use to play some pretty good golf years ago . Have played in a US Amatuer and U S Publinks as well as played for Wake Forest in the 80s . The only thing wrong with your game can be solved through a slower tempo . Work on a slower tempo and your game will slowly come back. You don't need any swing change but just slow things down and quiet your foot work . Good luck

40:53 Rick and Guy. I have played golf on and off for the last 30 years. I’m still a high handicapper currently 20.2. I discovered your content during the first lockdown and it made me return to the game after about an 8 year break. I would like to say that the reason I prefer your content to others on KZfaq is because it’s relatable. I have played well at times, I’ve played horrendously. My physical appearance has changed for the better and the worse. I have had work and family commitments over the years which has caused my game to slip. Watching you guys and your guests week in week out and listening to the podcast inspires me to get back out on the course. Most people would love to have half the talent you and guy have. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see the new channel grow.

Hi Rick.. I give you the business once in awhile because I am a fellow golf professional, and it's done in a "tough love" fashion. You know what you have to do to improve. You just aren't doing those things. You want to improve, but you haven't committed to doing the work needed. You will have to make sacrifices, if you really want it. Commit to it, sort out a schedule for it, and then do it. Then you have to maintain things when they are better. Which is also a near daily routine you have to continue, or you slip backwards again. That's just how it is. But you already know this. ;) You just need some tough love, reminding you to get on with it. No excuses. Cheers.

Give us a VLOG of "Road to break75" show us your gym routines your practices, it will help you motivate yourself to do it and it will help us see what work needs to go into bettining yourself (ourselves) at golf. The highs the lows. I have recently started taking golf more seriously and practice a fair amount, but can see as the years go by it would be harder to stay motivated to hit balls at the range, around the putting green, out of bunkers etc... Also the practice facilities are not great at most UK courses so would be a good way to see what we can do to improve.

Here is my interpretation of the naming system for the Taylormade TP Reserve Putters (check out the putters and their spec sheets on the TM website to see for yourself): TR = TP Reserve, such that the TR-B11 expands to TP Reserve B11 The letter, B or M = Blade or Mallet The first number further specifies the head shape. There are 3 different Blade putter heads used in the TP Reserve lineup, signified by 1, 2, or 3. The TR-11 and the TR-13 share the same (Blade #1) head, while the TR-29 (Blade #2) and the TR31 (Blade #3) each have different head shapes. The Mallet putters also come in 3 different heads, signified by 2, 3, or 4. The second number signifies the type of hosel and is the same for both the Blade and Mallet models. 1 = L-Neck, 3 = Small Slant, 7 = Single Bend, 9 = Flow Neck. Putting all this together and breaking down each putter in the lineup: TR-B11 - TP Reserve Blade style #1 with an L-Neck TR-B13 - TP Reserve Blade style #1 with a Small Slant TR-B29 - TP Reserve Blade style #2 with a Flow Neck TR-B31 - TP Reserve Blade style #3 with a Single Bend TR-M21 - TP Reserve Mallet style #2 with an L-Neck TR-M27 - TP Reserve Mallet style #2 with a Single Bend TR-M33 - TP Reserve Mallet style #3 with a Small Slant TR-M37 - TP Reserve Mallet style #3 with a Single Bend TR-M47 - TP Reserve Mallet style #4 with a Single Bend "Why do the Mallet models start at 2?" So that the numbers found in the Blade (B) models aren't repeated in the Mallet (M) models. If the Mallet head shapes were signified by 1, 2, and 3 (like the Blade head shapes), there would be a TR-B11 and a TR-M11 (and 11 would actually be the only case of repeated numbers if this were the case, as the M lineup would consist of 11, 17, 23, 27, and 37). Having the Mallet models start at 2 means each putter can really be identified by just the numbers themselves. Personally, I'm willing to bet this is more for clarity within the digital systems used along TM's supply chain rather than reducing the confusion of the consumer.

I have a really hard time believing that bad golf won't eventually effect the numbers for a youtube golfer. Ive been watching forever, and still watch but I never would have started if I didnt see Rick as a solid golfer. Obviously you dont need to be consistency in the 60s, but there has to be a line especially in this more competitive youtube scene where bad golf hurts views. Yeah if you constantly have PGA tour pros on you'll get views, but who wants to watch a golfer try to beat 90?

Great show guys! Rick, as an Australian PGA member for almost 50 years I can absolutely appreciate your perspective. In my case I can throw in two total knee replacements and assorted other ailments, the joys of which can only be appreciated with age. I'm sure that the majority of your viewers are sympathetic to your limitations as regards time etc., but I also know there are others, who in order to get their miserable jolly's, and apart from the obligation which we feel towards ourselves and our peers, judge us as a success or failure dependent on our scores in relation to our comfort zone or predominantly their unrealistic expectations in relation to the current crop of Tournament Professionals. If, for your peace of mind, your own perspective is the most critical, I would suggest that you ask yourself what sort of result would you expect from even your most talented student who practiced for an equal amount to yourself, and how would you advise them to critique their own progress, or lack thereof, in light of it. Keep up the great work, and G'day from the land of Oz.

Hey Guys, the reason we love golf is because we are constantly chasing being better and pushing ourselves. I do often find myself thinking that you all do get to golf more than you probably do. If you are having trouble finding your game and need to build on your game while working with your schedule why not build practice routines into your work schedule, whether its ball striking or off the tee drills we're all here for the content! Also if you 80k views on this in two days as I'm writing this comment, you are bound to have a lot of haters, you wouldn't have the following you do if you weren't an honest golfer and honest golfers like Guy said have their good and bad rounds. I don’t really care what you shoot on the break 75 courses. What bothers me is the self-disparaging comments, the dropping of the head, the sighs, the low moods, and disappointing looks at almost every shot. I get golf is hard and bad golf is inevitable, but your attitude is optional. You can make your golf and your experience more enjoyable without any change in score. And this is from someone who can’t even get out to golf in the last 2 years because of health.

Rick, I've noticed that you like shaping the ball, give up on that, go to one stock shot, either cut or draw, whichever you prefer, and just start improving your contact with that one shot type/shape for now.
