Cody Rhodes has only been Undisputed WWE Champion for a few months, but certain wrestling fans are already tired of his title reign. In this video I'm taking a look at those complaints and see if there's any validity to those WWE fans claims that Cody Rhodes has already failed as Undisputed WWE champion.

It’s video like this that sums up my problem with the IWC, you spend months and years complaining about someone being misused by management saying “he should be world champion”, yet the second when they finally become world champion, you automatically turn on them. You did it with Daniel Bryan 10 years ago at WrestleMania 30. You did it with CM Punk a few years prior to that. It now becomes a question of what the hell do you guys want then? Make up your mind!! Y’all are NEVER satisfied with anything. Not that I’m defending Vince’s atrocious booking in the last several years but I completely understand why he never catered to you in the beginning.

He’s doing his part. But yes Brock vs Cody should have been his first defense. That unstoppable heel is a missing in Cody’s title run. It just goes back to Cody should have won the first time he faced Roman at Mania.

The fickle fans and obvious Bloodline marks are the ones who are mostly 😭 about his reign so far. Jesus he has only just won it. His feud with AJ Styles has been pretty good so far imo. Especially the fake retirement and attacking Cody like Hendry did to Cena. Why fans want the best feuds first and not build to someone like Orton or The Rock. Wrestling fans are crazy 😂😂😂

@AngelBamba-he2lo. Your 30’s is your prime in wrestling. A wrestler’s prime is in their 30’s. But WWE don’t know how to create stars anymore, and they haven’t for about 20 years now, since Lesnar, Cena, Orton and Batista, the class of 2002.

It's not Cody's fault that WWE doesn't really know what to do. I think the problem with Cody's reign is that we, the fans, were more interested in seeing him pursuing the title and finishing the story. It's like watching a sequel to a TV Show that wrapped up its story...

What people seem to forget is that heel champions are normally more interesting to watch than babyface champions. This makes Cody's reign bad? Absolutely not. We only have to be patient and get used to having a face champ after years of a top heel being the champ. That's it. Also, he is doing a great job as champion, people like to complain about everything nowdays.

*I think Cody has been doing a fine and swell job of being the babyface champion that WWE needs. He still over with the crowd so I feel like that alone should mean he’s doing OK. The thing about wrestling fans nowadays what I really dislike is the way when something immediately happens they automatically turn against it and say that it’s boring, especially when it comes to babyfaces. That’s like immediately calling a movie boring after just literally watching the opening scene. Plus, people should at least give Cody credit for trying the best he can to make his championship reign work because anybody else who is in a spot of following Roman Reigns’ 4-year World title reign was obviously going to serve as a tough act to follow for most people.*

When Roman was champion all his matches were predictable, always outside interference and Roman winning, so you cant say that about Cody without looking at the 3 years of predictable booking of reigns 🤷

@LightFromADeadStar. But the reason why Reigns was champion for so long was because WWE had no one else, other than maybe Lesnar who Reigns beat. The problem with WWE the last 15 years is they don’t know how to create legit stars anymore, Reigns is the last of them. WWE’s roster since Covid hit has been awful, fucking no one there at the top of the card. WWE at the moment is reaching 1992/1993 and 2010/2011 levels of fucking no one credible enough on the roster. When Bret Hart was champion in late 1992/early 1993, all he was doing was beating jobbers, because there was no one yet for him to face. And WWE had to put World Titles on mid carders in late 2010/early 2011, because the roster was so fucking depleted.

Roman's title reign became predictable the moment he beat Jey at SS last year. We thought Brock gonna beat him at CJ 2021, we thought Seth gonna beat him at RR 2022, we thought Drew gonna beat him at CATC 2022, we almost thought that Sami beat him at EC 2023, we thought Cody gonna beat him at WM39 2023, we thought Jey gonna beat him at SS 2023. Since Jey didn't beat him at SS, storyline wise there's no credible threat left except Cody. That's why LA, Randy, and AJ were just fillers for Roman until WM40 for Cody. Now what about Cody? Can you think of anyone who's a legit threat for Cody other than Bloodline, Rock, Roman, Brock, and Randy? Gunther, Drew, and Punk are on RAW. Cody already clean swept 3-0 Seth Rollins with him beating Seth with one pec. Cody also clean swept Finn Balor and Nakamura. Aint no way you gonna believe Santos, LA, AJ, Bobby Lashley, Logan, Kross, Theory, Melo, Waller, Andrade, KO are legit threat for Cody. Edit: so basically what I’m trying to say is that the heel side, especially on SD has been neglected for so long. They/Triple H need to build credible threat/heels just like he built credible face/Avengers to face Roman.

Cody matches are the same as Roman being a heel only difference is Cody is face. Cody character is to overcome whether storm & to look strong & never lose. Vs a heel with interference. So it’s no difference.

Its not really important to me who holds any given belt as long as the heels and tweeners have something to fight against. Its fine to have a core babyface at the top so that the bad guys have something to play against. For that, Cody is pretty ok. He is way to slick and picture perfect, something that the heels can work against. But his actual run? I dont really care. The only run I have enjoyed was Gunther, his style was worth all the constant matches and I didnt get bored. Still, it was good that he finally lost, anything will get stale no matter how good it is. Cody is not my type of wrestler, but he works well as a sideshow, like all company faces become. Real titles are in the midcard.

The problem is there is no one for him to feud with, other than the obvious which is Orton. This is why Reigns was champion for so long, the roster isn’t good enough at the top of the card. There are rumours going around that Solo (who has only won like 2 TV matches in like a year) will be Cody’s next feud. The roster at the top of the card is terrible tbh.

As much as I love Cody very much, but as a wrestling fan for 33 years, I can see why that Cody’s WWE Championship reign was above average. It’s just that he is putting out great matches, but his character as a babyface has gotten stale. He reminds me of Hogan whenever he plays the superhero Hulkamaniac character so many times that fans just don’t care anymore by the early to mid 90’s.

Here's what every booker should be aware of when crowning a new champion and creating a good reign. Give them a compelling follow-up storyline, formidable opponents that create good chemistry(ies), and make it believable whenever they defend those titles. We want reigns that are memorable, not just slap it on them because fans want them and expect the spark to last as long without making them interesting.

The only reason why Cody’s reign isn’t that stellar, is due to the men he faced (AJ Styles & Logan Paul). In all honestly, Gunther should have been drafted to Smackdown, so that way, when he won the King Of The Ring, he could face Cody at Summerslam, especially since they aren’t doing anything with Gunther since winning King Of The Ring. And honestly, with the way it should go, Cody should be champion until Wrestlemania 41, and then have that match/rematch with The Rock or Roman Reigns. But it’s mainly down to who Cody faces at Summerslam

A great champion isn’t determined by the result of their matches. He’s a great champion because of his character work and in ring work. We’re too drawn by him losing rather than him keeping the title to see who he feuds with next. I’d say that’s the fun in this whole run. The suspense of his next opponent.

Cody's doing great. We finally get a full-time champion and people complain like he's part-timing. 🤦🏿‍♂️ Roman did a great job even if he was a part-timer and was more interesting like that, and as a heel it added to his aura. Cody is the same, but he's a full-timer and that's good for his aura and good to have the face champ on TV. The babyface champion should always be on TV so long the segments or feuds are good. And when he finally loses, then the chase for the belt should be just as good as the first time. The landscape will have hopefully changed by the time he wins it again, and he'll get fresh feuds.

The big issue is that champions are essentially PLE exclusive, meaning they are saving title matches only for PLEs, with some exceptions, of course. After Roman, Cody has little to work with. Some people have yet to finish their storylines. A lot of people need to gain momentum instead of being a filler challenger. The next matchup is mostly likely going to be Gunther as he has no major feuds or stories going on. Kaiser and Sheamus have their own thing, so Gunther is available. Solo still needs buildup as a, ironically, solo/singles performer and is intrenched with a feud between them and R-KO. We are still in the buildup phase of Cody's reign. He needs people to work with, who are available, and who are deemed ready in the eyes of the fans as a worthy matchup. It is the Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker effect. When the Unstoppable Force finally beats the Immovable Object, where else does he have to go? Cody, story wise, would beat everyone in his current momentum. Creative still has to build someone up or bring someone in as a stalling mechanism for someone else who is actually ready.

I personally don't believe it's Cody's fault! He is good in the ring etc. The issue is that the heels currently in SmackDown are not that great... For example, even if you put the title on someone else, Who would it be? No shade to AJ but he would be even more boring.. The issue with the SmackDown roster is that they are all great wrestlers but not good on the mic and at creating a story. Cody doesn't have the Bloodline to make it as interesting as Roman was.

Id argue that a bigger issue is that the story in the fields is more about the heels and don't connect to Cody. Aj feels like he's too old and wants a title, and Logan is a prick who wants the title, the feuds don't need Cody to be champion and thats an issue because we know their predictable but also know they don't have merit. Sami VS Roman was predictable but we cared because it was an amazing story and couldn't be told in another way. I personally think solo should try to defeat Cody or have randy turn heel, give Cody heels that are connected to him rather than have heels that only fuel their own agenda.

In terms of his performance he's doing all the right things. He's being the company babyface champion and doing it well but the thing is when you come off a huge hot angle like his at wrestlemania then anything that's not in comparison to that is gonna seem like a step back so really it's up to the creative to come up with angles and the storys that are gonna keep the title reign hot and you also need the right dance partner in terms of a heel.

One of Cody's problems is that he's on Smackdown - and while he *can* potentially feud with Raw stars, those feuds would be harder to build. And Smackdown is a roster with not many relevant, main-event heels for Cody to feed on - or *was*, until recently. I said at some point in the past that aside from Styles and Paul, Cody can only really feud with the Bloodline - and after Cody had defeated Roman, they did not present a credible challenge. That changed once Jacob Fatu arrived and once Solo officially declared Roman wasn't coming back as Chief: Now the Bloodline is its own new thing, and outnumbers Cody's informal friend group on Smackdown. They can satisfy Cody's need for heel opponents for the next few PPV cycles, and then we can have a Randy heel turn.

It’s the standard post WrestleMania down turn before it starts picking up again for Summerslam and also it’s standard wrestling booking that a babyface will always draw better chasing the title over being champion. Cody’s feud and matches with AJ Styles have been really good as I’m sure the build up to Summerslam will also be, people complained about there being no champion on weekly TV before and are now complaining because there is.

In my opinion, failure is out of pocket. Listen to those crowd responses they LOVE him, much different than what ‘06 Cena or face Reigns were getting. I think a lot of the IWC in particular have been overly critical of Cody Rhodes. Unpredictability doesn’t always equal entertainment. Plus opposition quite literally started from the first day of his reign. He could use some bigger rivals sure but at the same time his matches have been fire 🔥 promos have been cool as his reign continues.

2:15 Hard disagree here. He's already faced Lesnar and WWE has suffered from Lesnar fatigue just like with Reigns. This is a case of the IWC never being happy and led to the nonsense booking from Vince in the 2010s. Let's just enjoy the excellent matches and let Cody have his time until a viable contender emerges.

He doesn't have to carry the belt forever. He just deserved it when it was his time. Back in the day folk had the belt on a time clock and it was ok. 2 years would mean having the belt 3 or 5 pay per views if they were lucky. Make the belt more competitive to acquire.

The matches with Logan Paul and AJ x2 were all excellent. Problem is i would have preferred he stayed on Raw, Smackdown roster isnt esactly stacked at the moment, we need Seth, Punk, Orton and obviously Roman rematch and The Rock to come in the future, there's no reason why Cody could lose the title to one of them and then down the line win it back. Early days in the reign but WWE can easily change things up if needbe

I found a report earlier that indicates that Cody's title reign is garbage. Ratings are down, viewership has dwindled, and merchandise sales are going down. Proving that Cody is not a good babyface champion. Putting Cody on TV every week regardless of what show it is has also become a chore for viewers. If Cody does not drop the title at SummerSlam, SmackDown ratings are going to be in the toilet. It's time for a new heel champion.

He needs a proper rival who can inflict some emotional trauma on him that goes deeper than just one match. Randy would be terrific and he should 100% turn heel. He can get under anyone's skin, and they've already got history.

Anybody who eventually becomes the one to end Roman Reigns’ historic title reign will have tons of pressure to somewhat live up to expectations. That is sadly true in the case of Cody Rhodes. While I think he has been decent as a champion, there’s no credible opponent that makes you feel like he can beat him for the title. I think WWE should make a Heel Cena vs. Face Cody storyline, as Cody is what Cena used to be (if the plans are Rock vs. Cody at Mania 41).

I always thought his title reign depended on the calibre of his opponents . They should have had him face opponents who actually look dangerous and threatening like Bobby Lashley or Randy Orton or Braun Strowman.

For once I would like to see a champion drop the title and embrace the whole "the thrill is in the chase" angle. Just whooping the newly crowned defending champion's ass, and taking the title from them just to prove that they are better than their opponent and bigger than the title itself.

I dunno maybe the reigns kinda taking shape?. And we need to let it?. He still gets good reactions. He’s consistent. It does seem like they are setting more up. They had the bloodline attack, randy was looking at his title. I mean he could likely do a couple more programs. I dont fucking know I cant see the future. I think the only one things who think this is boring, is like…roman stans and people online, who to be honest, I dont think really count.

All of Roman title defenses were predictable and they all had the same formula with the bloodline getting involved. Plus Cody just got the title a few months ago it’s up to WWE to book strong contenders not Cody. They should turn strowman heel and have him go after Cody. They can also do randy orton as well.

Cody gets very loud reactions from fans and his matches have been stellar. The only people who claim Cody's reign is underwhelming are people on twitter and youtube comments.

I’ve always called him “Choady Rhodes” because although I respect the in ring, he seems like a dork to me as a character. I liked the mask gimmick back when but the suit, the hair, the lisp, I just don’t “get it” with this guy. But it seems like the fans do, so I think he’s doing just fine. Too soon to tell.

SummerSlam hasn't even happened yet, chill lol. But more objective take is that the main event roster right now is banged up with injuries/hiatus and they're making due. But once people get healed up and others are prepped for main event (like Gunther), he'll have opponents. Should Cody have some sort of record breaking title run? No, and I'm saying that as a big fan. He should lose the belt at some point (either later this year or after WrestleMania next year) just to win it back.
