Landscape Photography in the field with the Hasselblad 907x CFV II 50C. Today I received a loan of this camera and in this video I give my first impressions of this Medium Format camera using the 135 XCD lens with the 1.7x teleconverter and the 30mm XCD wide angle lens. I have the 907x for a couple of weeks so I will be thoroughly testing it during that period, but today I give my first impressions of what it is like to shoot landscapes in the field using this camera.

Just want to say that the last picture of the rocks in the lake might be my favourite picture of yours that I have ever seen, and I've been watching your videos for at least 2-3 years at this point! The rocks coming out of the water diagonally remind me of a beach I used to go to when I was young and have loved how that looks ever since!

I learn something new with each of your videos. While so many others can be incredibly superficial and lackadaisical with their photography, yours has substance, depth, and purpose. While teaching myself through my own journey, I have also had the privilege of vicariously learning through the journeys of photographers such as yourself. It is greatly appreciated and I sincerely thank you.

Your lake shot was a lovely image that left me with a peaceful feeling. It has a timeless feel. The music with the birds in the background added to that. Thank you for the experience.

Thomas, the main reason lens collars are used is so that the weight of the heavy and long lens will be balanced well with the camera body and won't damage the mount on the camera body, which can be damaged easily and pulled out of alignment and bent. It's best to use them when a lens comes provided with a tripod collar mount for those reasons.

Funny. I made a PowerPoint proposal for a similar camera a few years ago. But my proposal was intended for Fuji... because I love my Fuji. My proposal was sort of a “Fujiblad”. One difference was to put the screen on the top, but still tilt-able. Design the flip so it could flip to back for eye-level shooting and flip to front for selfie/vlog. But priority was for waist level shooting. Also an attachable waist-level hood for the display to shield the sun. Since square sensors are rare and expensive, maybe put the sensor in portrait orientation rather than landscape. Anyway, I couldn’t find any means of sharing my idea with Fuji. All channels seemed blocked to me. And one KZfaq photographer told me nobody would want this. In the end, I suppose this camera really ought to be made by Hasselblad anyway. Nice to see they did something similar to what I imagined.

I think this is a brilliant landscape camera and it seems very nice to work with with the minimal controls. I'm glad some manufacturers, namely Fuji, Hasselblad and Leica are moving more towards film controls that are actually nice to use, instead of all the dials and knobs.

I was wondering when Hasselblad were going o get one of these into Mr Heaton's hands. I love what Hasselblad has done, it's exactly what most photographers want, simple, and easy to use, and the actual "camera" gets out of the way. Once the the photographer picks a system and invests in lenses just a simple "back" upgrade and there's a "new" camera. Well done Hasselblad and keep making the videos.

Thanks Thomas this video made me realise how obsessed I have become with DSLR Fx photography, Mac Photo and all things digital, and reminded me of the 'old' days... I recovered my Hasselblad 503cx w 80mm Carl Zeiss f2.8 from its camera bag at the bottom of my equipment cupboard and have resolved to check it out and use it again. It had a film loaded! Can't even remember when I last used it. Hopefully the film will be ok..... and time to find the light meter....... Thanks again.

I love the look of the camera, with its smooth, rounded chromed edges, it really makes you want to hold it. Forget about taking photos with it, just caress it. I wonder if they sell a cheaper one with no sensor of electricity nice in.... I’m not a fan of having to press and hold buttons and turn a dial to adjust aperture, I’ve had cameras like that before and I’m not keen on them. The loss of a view finder on a camera like that, for the sort of subjects it’s likely to be used on, I can’t see as a major issue, the LCD looked bright and contrasts enough to rely on in daylight. I’m looking forward to you putting the back on the 500cm.

your comment on lack of long lenses is just another reason to do what I have done. I use the Fujifilm GFX50r and have a techart adapter. That adapter allows me to use my Canon ef glass, my old long lenses. The adapter is smart so I have AF and aperture control. And I am finding most EF lenses cover the sensor. And those that don't I can shoot the camera in 35mm full frame format. I also have FD, Minolta, Leica and other adapters which allow older manual focus lenses to be used. Many of them are crazy beautiful, like the old Leica Elmarit 135 f4 lens I have. The versatility of being able to use both dumb and smart adapters makes my 50r my favorite camera I have ever owned in my 40+ yrs of shooting. Don't underestimate adapters.

Currently using a Phase One IQ250 back with the same sensor. Love the IQ from it! I tried and didn't get along with the GFX100 for a variety of reasons and ended up sticking with the Phase One. The 907x with a hypothetical CFV100c sensor (I can dream!) would be ideal for me... using my back on a tech cam would be a dream with the BSI 100MP CMOS sensor, and I could also pop it on my 500 CM from time to time. I fell in love with 907X specs & have recently watched reviews & still have 3 Hass film bodies & lenses which I used for landscape a lot of which was in the Lakes but they haven’t been used now for years (original thought in keeping them was a digital back) as it’s been Canon/Nikon digital. Apparently the camera part will mount onto the Hass bodies I already have, but it’s a lot of cash esp as I was wanting to upgrade Canon anyhow - great video 👍

From my few weeks experiments with 907x, just change the setting by using the touch screen. If you really wanna use the diel, because of the mechanic design of the front diel, is much easier to turn it with two-finger.

About the shutter and aperture setting: if you thing about how a normal 5-series is used, that is holding the camera under with your left hand with your index finger to press the shutter. The focus the lens with your right hand... to me it feels natural to use the dial/shutter button with the left hand and the side button with your right. Not both with the same hand as Thomas is doing. If you're used to shoot a 5-series the setup seems quite logic to me.

I can see your attraction to it, as I’ve gone on in this hobby, all I really want from a camera is a box with a huge sensor and excellent optics. That’s it. Maybe if there were a way you could bluetooth link a sekonic L-858 to it and use that as the metering system, that would be perfection.
