The video explains the Cambo Actus View Camera Adapter on the Hasselblad X1D and Hasselblad X1D II which enables you to shoot Canon Tilt-Shift lenses on Hasselblad X1D cameras.
I also show sample photos in high resolution - so watch the video in 4K to not miss the image quality.

Hi .. In the end, I dropped the idea of the Cambo Actus and opted for the Canon R5 with the 24mm TSE mounted via the basic EF/RF adapter. The results are excellent and hassle free for my work for books and professional journals. Many picture editors don't touch 17mm TSE images as the images look unnatural thus making tight interior shoots a little more complicated. And so I sold my 17mm a long time ago. The X2D might end-up being my go-to camera for close-up details in architecture. Mounted onto an Arca Swiss C1 and corrected in Phocus, I imagine the results will outshine the R5 and Zeiss Milvus glass which I currently depend on. Furthermore, it's a good looking machine which matters to some clients and me. For reasons I do not understand, Canon produce some of the ugliest cameras known to mankind. .. Ciao for now

I noticed viewer comments about the X2D paired with the Canon 24 mm tse via Cambo - presumably the adapter which you describe so well in your video. It would be interesting to know if you have tested this combination. If you have, can this lens resolve properly with the X2D's 100 mp sensor thus providing increased image quality/detail over the 50 mp sensor of X1D?

Any issues with the electronic shutter? I'm guessing this is only good for things with no movement? How is it on a long exposure?

Wait, I can’t control aperture with EF lenses on this body without this adapter? Techart adapter? So this lens is about 30mm on the x1d? How is this for handheld with adapted lenses? I’d be living electronic shutter, in my case with Zeiss ze lenses in Canon EF mount.

HI,Thank you for demonstrating the adapter.I am looking to use the Canon EF adapter on the Hasselblad as well mainly on a tripod for architectural photography at slow shutter speeds.Have you experienced any banding or color problems using this system due to the limitations of the Electronic Shutter in the camera?
@mathphotographer
@mathphotographer 3 жыл бұрын
No problems noted in architectural photography. For still images where you do not have quickly moving objects in the scene, the electronic shutter works well. Where it does not work well: when you would do a timelapse with the X1D(2) and use electronic shutter on a scene with quickly moving cars, for instance, you will immediately see the "rolling shutter" effect, means, then the electronic shutter is not a good choice. Since the shutter on the X1D is sitting in the lens (leaf shutter) you can safely go for mechanical shutter also for timelapses, so all-in all good.

I looked at the Cambo website to see if they have a solution for the SL2 but I can't even find this Hasselblad solution on there. Not a great website (when viewed on Chrome, at least). It seems that Nikon PC lenses are the best solution if you want a tilt-shift for the SL2 that's wider than 28mm, correct?

Are you encountering vignette when shifting beyond 8? Also, I suspect diagonal shift, frequently used by architectural photographers, is limited for the same reason. You are not going to get 24 mm with this combination which is another concern. Some pros will find the resultant lens widening a little too extreme. For my money, I would prefer to pair the 24 mm TS-E with the Canon R5 using the EF to RF adapter, and would be interested in seeing your upcoming test vlog.
@dajobra
@dajobra Жыл бұрын
The 24mm would become your interieur ultra wide angle on 44x33 and replace the 17mm ts for full frame. I have both shooting on A7r with metabones adapter. The problem with 44x33 is you need a 33mm tilt shift to replace the 24mm and that doesn't exist.
@louisaflemming3959

@@dajobra Thanks for that. I noticed that a number of photographers seem to be using the Fuji XT4 with the Canon TSE 24mm via the Cambo Actus to get around the limitations which you describe. The new X2D looks like a real improvement over previous iterations. Perhaps it is a grown-up Hasselblad but at a price point that will allow the company to thrive and compete - and open the door to people like me.

@@louisaflemming3959 I was looking because of the x2d. I really like the 1 tb internal storage and I am sure the color science will be spot on. As I see it, the sensor is the same as the fuji gfx100. But for me the problem remains, no tilt shift lens around the 30-35 mm range. I think I will upgrade to A7RV that should release soon. As for the XT4 I would use full frame canon or sony. Sony A7r II works perfect if you want something budget friendly-isch. The tse is manual focus only anyway and the sensor is the same as A7R III. Don't get the mark IV

Nelson Club I see. Thanks. The X1D is not so great for adapting lenses. We are limited to electronic shutter as well - so no flash and rolling shutter problems. I would like to see Mathphotographer review the Cambo Actus mini view camera which can be attached to the X1D as well as almost any manual lenses, including large format lenses.

Cropping the Hasselblad X1D with a non TS Canon lens, makes an FF camera of the Hasselblad. That is a waste of money. What rests of the margin of the image circle of the Canon TS when it is mounted to the X1D ? Why do not you show the rise and fall before and after. ? What do you want to show by zooming in on the colour photographs you made ?
@nelsonclub7722

Brilliant. Buuuuuuuuut restricted to electronic shutter only which I understand is a rolling shutter so fine if absolutely nothing moves including the camera? And you can't use flash because of the banding artefacts that creates - other than that brilliant. Maybe GFX would be better use as it has focal plane?
@ignacymat
@ignacymat 3 жыл бұрын
yep, GFX is much better for this application. I'm kinda drolling over adding 50 or 100 mpix to my TS-E lineup. For me hasselblad ended with 503CM, it was a great body and as you can see everything after was just "homage" for it. Early digital ones were made by fuji, the X1D has basicly the same sensor, but without a built in shutter, what a stupid move in mirrorless...
@nelsonclub7722
@nelsonclub7722 3 жыл бұрын
@@ignacymat I agree - FP is the business - and I wish I hadn't gone full bore down the Hass route after selling my GFX - what a donkey - now considering the GFX100 - and thanks to you and your channel some TSE's - I shoot automotive for exclusive clients - and short of a Phase One XT but unless I sell my kidneys and eyes, children and house that is not an option - was going to go Hass907x with an Arcbody but you lose so much frame its not worth it - was going to go down this route a while back and wished I had - oh well someone will benefit for my mistakes on Ebay though - so its all good i the end.....although if you use a Techart adaptor on the GFX you can have aperture control anyway I think?

@@ignacymat Leaf shutter is a Hasselblad thing. Some way or another it belongs to the brand's heritage. The GFX surely has the advantage of a built-in focal plane shutter, but it also makes the camera body's Flange-Focal distance longer. The X1D has the same Flange-Focal distance as a Sony A7, which is pretty thin given the larger sensor. And if you're owning a good set of classic Hasselblad lenses and are in to buying their CFV-50c back, we've got a more elegant way to add shift to it: www.cambo.com/en/wide-rs-series/wrc-hvsa/

@@cambofotografischeindustri3415 Yeah sure, like the 110 f/2 (lens that needed focal plane shutter) was never an hasselblad icon. I say it's bullshit...

@@ignacymat The 110 F2 is indeed an iconic lens - typical Zeiss simplicity; however this wont solve the problem of X series - but will work great on 200 series - I have this lens on a 203fe - it is rather lovely - the 110 from Fuji is the best lens they have - but does not compare to the Hass - also they have different focal lengths by comparison to a 35mm benchmark

If that canon is anything like the 19mm Nikon it’s completely useless where shift function is only available either vertical;y or horizontally. For true X/Y shift function nothing bests the ALPA with the IQ4 digital back where it’s a case of picking the right tools for the right job and for architecture shooting with shift in only only direction isn’t a serious working solution. (Hasselblad offer their own T/S adapter for architecture for use on the H6D but performance is poor relative to the ALPA Max.)
@seanl3121
@seanl3121 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, shift function on Canon is better than X/Y shift with 30deg rotation detents. A feature on both the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and the TS-E 17mm f/4L lenses is Canon’s TS Revolving System. This feature allows tilting and shifting lens movements to be adjusted in parallel or at right angles to each other, with detents at 45˚ intervals. Additionally, once the TS Revolving System has been set, the orientation of the entire lens can be rotated freely through a range of ±90˚, with detents at 30˚ intervals.
