We might not be the most timely review out there when it comes to the Hasselblad X1D II 50C, but how could we give up the chance to try out such an excellent camera along with the (very well-received) 80mm f/1.9 and 45mm f/4 lenses? Here are our thoughts on this beautiful medium-format camera.

Great review. I have the X1Dii and the 907x and they are amazing cameras. I thought Leica had the best build quality, but Hasselblad puts them to shame. Yes, they're expensive and have their flaws (if you need speed), but if photography is your art and you are inspired by things of beauty, you owe it to yourself to try the Hasselblad system.

Thanks for your enthusiastic review!! love the fact that you’ve mentioned the new grip that was so beautiful on the first version and aligned with the one on the lenses. Hope they will be back on this point (as design is one of their major strenght) on a future iteration that everyone is waiting to compete against the 100s. When are you making a video on image editing as I love the way you process your files!

Nice work with the review. I've got a Leica S and 3 Hasselblad HC lenses that I use with great results. Every time I see the X1D II, I think I want it. For anyone thinking of getting a Fuji, I believe the X1DII will produce more organic looking images.

Old Video I know but I'm finally in the position to get into MF digital and I know I'm going the Hasselblad route even if it's a bit more than a GFX50s. I just Love the design of the camera and I have a 500CM so I feel it would be a great pair. I know I want to start off with a 45mm P lens but I'm just on the fence of getting the original or the MKii X1D. I know the difference is marginal with the OLED viewfinder and the larger screen on the back and a bit faster processing but I'm not of course looking at this camera for speed. I've used the original back when it came out and love the files. I can save about 700-1000$ by getting the original one. Would it be better to invest a bit more into a newer version?

So, question. I own a 907x with both the lenses in your review. While the 45P works well on the 907x, the 907x is a bit limited in portrait mode. One solution is the grip which I feel ruins the aesthetic. Is the X1DII the answer? If you had to chose between the two bodies to use both of these lenses, which would it be.
@diegaulle9143

I'm pretty sure that the answer depends on handheld or tripod. If you do both, then you need both cameras.

Hi Bobby, I have a D850 camera with 4 Nikon lens from wide angle to to the 200mm to 400mm for wildlife. Had a Hasselblad CM 500 in the film days. Great camera, miss it. The Hasselblad was stolen a few years ago. I am interested in both the SL2s and the Hasselblad 907x as a 2nd camera I . As you have used all three camera brands do you think getting a Leica the images would not look much different from the D850? I like the colors coming from the X1D. Medium format is a different camera system so more like apple to oranges. Did you shot it with auto focus off? I am 70years old and hope my eyes could work with this camera. Thank you I like your reviews and your passion...
@TECH360TV
@TECH360TV 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron thanks for the comment. The 907x is a beautiful camera but not the easiest to use daily. There is no viewfinder and the rear display isn’t the brightest in daylight conditions. In Addition the usability will take some time to get use to. The Leica SL2S is a nice camera system but you won’t be gaining anything from the D850 except a more refined camera in terms of build and design. If you like Medium format perhaps look at the fujifilm GFX100S. Fast AF, good ergonomics and very good price considering.

Yes, the 907x is a bit impractical but it is a thing of beauty and I’ll never sell mine. I also own both the Fuji 50’s. For me, 50 is enough and I’ve turned down the upgrade to 100MP. You will need to factor in your whole workflow from processor to storage. Will what you have cope? What I think the SL2-S would give you is access to Leica glass, and for me, it’s always about the glass.

🤔 if I was in your shoes, I would look into the x1d ii. There was a lot of noise about how version 1 felt like an unfinished/rushed product. If you print, I think you would enjoy the system overall vs your Canon. Keep in mind that the AF is a substantial downgrade from an R5.

I filmed this review around the same time of the GFX100S and here are my thoughts.: The 100S is blistering fast compared to the X1DII Hasselblad was more accurate with skin tones when comparing the 100S standard profile. Pro Neg Hi seems to close the gap slightly. Battery life was better on the 100 Design wise, Hasselblad still has it over the 100S but the gap is closing. Lens quality is very close. I’ll have a 801.9 vs 1.7 out very soon Value: GFX wins. Menu: Hasselblad wins Overall they are close but I think for the value and tech the 100S is the better buy. Colours can be tweaked, but if you miss shots due to lack of speed then you have no picture to show for it

@@TECH360TV This is so true I mean long as the colors aren’t to far apart then small tweaks can be done in post if necessary at all. I want to want this camera, but I've pre-order the Fuji GFX 100s. Autofocus, ibis, 100mp, cheaper lenses.... But man, many people talk about the colors and tones being better than the ones you find in Fujis cameras. I wonder if that alone is worth the pain of getting a slow and outdated camera, or just go with Fuji and learn how to massage the images to make them look this good. What's your view?

I think it depends on your use case. I’ve seen images using Pro Negative Hi that come close to the Hasselblad look. Not exact but close. The 100S is a much faster camera and the IQ is well. It’s 102MP haha. The X1D is a beautiful camera, but compared to the 100s it’s showing it’s age tech wise. I hope Hasselblad comes out with something comparable to the 100S, but who knows. The 907x is stunning and one of the most beautiful cameras I’ve held. However you need to understand how it shoots and the lack of speed. To me the 100s is the everyday medium format camera. Fast, small, and versatile. The X1D is the medium format camera that you take out once in a while for special occasions.

Great video, nice thoughts. Adding landscapes and not zooming in and out on images impatiently, would be nice. Why don't so many presenters give a damn about blocking locals in passageways?

Thanks. Actually I wasn’t blocking anyone. There was a large pathway on the side. Unfortunately some just don’t care.

Perhaps you don’t realise your looking at a shot and assuming the space where we are filming. You do realise I was the one shooting there right? And we know the area we are shooting in and made sure there was a pathway for people to walk. This is something that is quite normal here even when shooting tv shows.

While they do have best in class build quality; and they have phenomenal color science (so does Fuji).. but with all of the recent excellent cameras in Full Frame Mirrorless now (Canon R5, Sony A1 for example); and now you have Fuji's GFX 100S at 5999, basically $250 bucks more than this camera and with cheaper lens, but way better performance, I just don't see how Hasselblad can compete. Without the GFX100s; you can see the GFX100 was 10K, and humungous. The GFX 50S was large; more expensive. The GFX 50R was descent size, but didn't look as great, and was not comfortable to grip. While they had some advantages; hasselblad also had advantages that are inherent to the leaf shutter system. NOW; other than brand preference; there really isn't any great compelling reason to get a hasselblad x1d II. If there is a way to economize the manufacturing process..ie less hand build, more machine build, and they found a way to slice $1000 bucks off; they might still have a compelling case.

Yes the announcement of the GFX100S has changed things considerably. While I love the color science and build quality of the X1DII I can’t deny the power and versatility of the 100S especially for the price.
