Today I want to share and talk about using the Medium Format X1DII with Leica M glass. Does it work? What are the pros and cons? Here you will see samples and hear my thoughts on using M mount lenses on this medium format system. In other words, lenses that were never meant to be used on medium format! Even so, the results can be quite nice!

A lot has been said about moving subjects and readout time. But how fast do subjects have to move in order to get them distorted? Like walking people that you would normally freeze at 1/125th?

I'd love to see the SL lenses on this camera. Perhaps there can be no functional adapter, as the flange focal distance of the L mount is not much longer than the XCD mount. It would be worth a try, anyway.

Well said..sharpness is for pixel peepers. All these other reviewers who blame vignetting of lenses and then add vignette in photoshop

Many lenses zoom or prime have a much larger image circle than the sensor they are designed for. It is a trick by lens manufacturers because the center of the image circle is always better than the periphery. For example the full frame Zeiss Otus lenses can be used on the medium format Hasselblad X1D or the Fujifilm GFX cameras without cropping. Also the APS-C Sony 10-18mm and the APS-C Sony 70-350mm can be used on full frame e-mount cameras without cropping for most of their focal distance range. All tilt shift lenses have much larger image circles too.

c l Booster adapters actually make the image circle smaller. For example the versions of Metabones speed booster adapters make the image circle of full frame EF mount lens, smaller for use in APS-C or micro 4/3 mirrorless cameras. That increases the amount of light reaching the sensor and doesn't change the angle of view of the full frame lens on a APS-C or micro 4/3 cameras.

I tested 35, 50, 90 mm M lens with X1D2. Vignetting was stronger than your images. Didn’t you crop your images at all?

Hi do you know of any third party company who make adapter which will let me used Rollel 6008 lens to the Hasselblad X1 D II or to Leica S2 or S3 please let me know. Thank you

That is a bummer it is electronic shutter only. Maybe a GFX 50R would be a better option albeit not as pretty looking and a fair bit chunkier!

i have the adapter for my GFX, about to Test it with my 50 lux, and also the Zeiss 35 ZM 1.4, surprised that it doesn't vignette that much.

I'm a big fan of adapted lenses. Never thought about it on a leaf shutter system though. Electronic shutter should work OK, but I'm guessing there's no chance of flash synching.

I use Canon FD lenses on my X1D II with amazing results, almost no vignetting on 85mm f1.2 and wide view with slight vignetting on 28mm f2.8. I would like to use M glass as well but find the adapter to expensive. I paid less than 100$ for the FD adapter.

These reports on super class lenses and cameras would look better if shown in 4K, so that we really could appreciate the difference.

If some went to a art gallery they would not look at the edges or look at all the bumps of a famous painting. It's all about whether you think a photograpth is amazing some sharp lens are soulless so every thing you say in your reviews is true
