Glad to hear that! My sas 12 gauge runs flawless on Remington 2 3/4 birdshot… no issues. What ammo do you use in your 20 gauge?

There have been at least 3 generations of the Hatfield SAS 12-gauge. I have a Gen-3 which has run perfectly since I got it in 2018 (after an initial break-in). The earlier generations had slightly different-looking fore-grips and required swapping gas piston rings depending on the load (e.g. bird-shot vs buckshot or magnum). The unit that I received in March, 2018 was (from what I understand through my correspondence with Hatfield) a Gen-3. All generations are made by the well-established Turkish manufacturer, UTAS. The older versions seemed to have had problems with the walnut fore-grip cracking and poor reliability cycling. The Gen-3 that I have runs like a champ with everything that I feed it (mostly cheap, bulk Winchester or Federal target loads, buckshot, & slugs), and it doesn't require changing the gas piston ring for different loads. Despite some negative online reviews, I decided to risk buying a Hatfield SAS 12-gauge due to its irresistible price. (At the time I didn't know about the various generations and improvements.) As soon as I unboxed it, I gave it a thorough cleaning, because some reviews warned that there would be a fair amount of metal shavings from the factory milling. (There were, and that's not good.) When I took it to the range, I loaded it up with five 2-3/4" Federal bulk #8-shot shells and commenced fire. Two of the first 5 failed to cycle properly and I thought, "Uh-oh." However, since then, I have fired about 1000 2-3/4" shells (from #8-shot to 00 buckshot to slugs, all ~1200 fps) without a single failure to fire or to cycle. (I've mostly used cheap, bulk 2-3/4" Federal or Winchester #7.5-#8 shot.) However, initially I did have a lot of trouble getting 3" (1200 fps Winchester 00 buckshot) shells to cycle. The spent 3" shells would eject but the next shell wouldn't fully chamber, requiring an extra push on the charging handle to move the shell fully into the chamber. I was able to solve this problem by manually cycling (without firing) 3" shells through it about 100 times (manually pushing the charging-handle forward, if necessary) in order to break it in. Now it also reliably cycles 3" shells-- not that I've shot more than about 30 of the shoulder-punishing 3" 00-buckshot 1200 fps Winchester shells that I bought. I'm very happy with my Hatfield SAS 12-guage. From what I can tell, it performs like $1000 semiautomatic shotguns (not that I'm a connoisseur). It was easily worth the sub $300 price that I paid in 2018. Great value. Fun to shoot. Easy to smoke double-clays. There are a lot of bad reviews online, but I think most of those are from Gen-1 & Gen-2 owners. If Hatfield marketed these 3rd generation models under a different model name or made it clear that they're new-improved Gen-3's (so that prospective buyers could ignore the online reviews for the older versions), Hatfield would sell a whole lot more of these. By the way, according to Hatfield, Beretta/Benelli Mobil chokes work on this shotgun.

I can relate with your frustration. However, I recommend sending it back to Hatfield if you haven’t had it longer than a year. It is a limited warranty of only 1 year. (which is short) I sent mine back with complaints; and they were able to get a specialist to get it working great. Plus they added a couple parts my model was missing. Though I have had to work on it more than any other shotgun it is still one of my favorites.

Only problem with mine is failure to eject on the first shot on a cold morning. After I take my “first shot” at a nonexistent duck clear the failure never another issue.

Mine almost broke my thumb trying to get shells in it very minor problem. Second use shells 1oz or heavier 1250 fps or better. Third push the release button when even you load the first shell. Remember it s $200 dollar gun not 2,000.

I have the 12 and the 20, and both have issues. The 12's bolt sometimes doesn’t have enough blowback inertia to fully operate the cam that drives the feed mechanism, so the bolt rebounds forward prematurely, catching the spent shell in the ejection port. The 20 seems to have weak extractor jaws, as sometimes they lose their grip on the shell before it quite clears the chamber. Both guns have been exposed to loads from 1180 to 1350 fps. Ideas, anyone?

Can you add a tube extension to this gun?
@daveriola163
@daveriola163 2 ай бұрын
You can add a magazine extension but the shotgun would need some modification. The screw-thread for the SAS magazine cap is the same thread-pitch as that of the popular Remington 870. However, I think it is unlikely that you could use most 870 magazine extension tubes on the Hatfield SAS (unless you bore-out the wooden fore-grip) because the outside diameter of such extension tubes is likely to be too wide to fit inside the fore-grip's cap-hole. (My Remington 870 magazine extension tube does not't fit inside the fore-grip, but can be spun onto the magazine without the fore-grip.) However, if extending the magazine is of interest, it MIGHT be possible to add a Taccom3g solution whereby you add an extension nut that enables the addition of a Tagcom extension tube. Nordic Components offers a similar system. Some minor gun smithing would also be required to grind-off the shell-stop at the muzzle-end of the magazine.

My spacer has 2 small screws that hold it on, I put some blue loctite on it. Just wondering why you do not use them.
@LongshoresOutdoors
@LongshoresOutdoors Жыл бұрын
To my understanding, i have the 1st generation design. The 2nd gen model came with the spacer. When I sent mine back to HatField to be repaired, they added the spacer to my 1st gen receiver which I don’t believe has the screw holes. They didn’t include screws either hah.

Winchester shells get ripped in half. Federals do okay. Remington shells do the best in my experience. Hardly ever any issues with the Remington shells.

Secondly, an ounce of lead is an ounce of lead!!! Doesn’t matter if it’s in a 2.75 or 3 or 3.5” box/shell, an ounce is still an ounce!!! And YES, longer shells do have slightly more powder. But more power only makes the shot spread wider and faster. So the ONLY “benefit” of longer shells is more kick and more rice hull/millet filler and more chances to miss. Due to the wider shot pattern. So could someone PLEASE tell me the REAL reason everyone wastes money on 3.5 guns???
@tbjtbj4786
@tbjtbj4786 6 ай бұрын
Because all of them don't use just a oz of lead. With a 3 1/2 10ga or 12ga you can 18 pellets of 00 Instead of 8 or 12 And 54 #1 instead of 24 of them. And some of the 12ga 3 1/2 you were able to get 2 3/4 oz of shot
