I got my vintage 1970's Panasonic 8-track player fixed. So in April '24 I went 8-track crazy, playing 13 8-tracks that have been in my backlog. And they sound great playing through my stereo system.

I love seeing KZfaq videos regarding the love for 8-tracks. I started my collection in 2021 when I got my wife's grandmother's 8-track stereo with its original speakers. It's a 1975 Sony HST-58; after some cleaning, a new belt, and some tweaking/tlc, it plays like a champ and sounds amazing. I also learned how to service and restore the 8-tracks themselves. Now, 3 years later, I have over 200 8-tracks - all serviced - and 4 8-track players. IMO, they are definitely a breed all their own, and even if it's an album you're familiar with, the different mixes and tracklisting could make you feel like you're hearing the album for the first time all over again. Machines back then were built to last! Built to be repaired, not replaced.

Wow what a great story. Thanks for sharing. I know they sell parts for the tape cartridges. New sponges etc. I haven’t done that. I appreciate and applaud your collection. It is a fun hobby for sure

This video brought back to me such good memories of my 8-track days. I can’t help but smile while remembering the fade in/fade out of songs when the subsequent tracks clicked in. And they sure did click! Though vinyl (despite its inferior sound to a CD) has always been my favorite format, I had more 8-track cartridges - and way more cassettes in containers - under my bed than LPs. The portability factor accounted for that.

8 Tracks were / are relatively big and actually take up a lot of space (so I'm realizing again). Portability indeed. Which is why for music, CD's were and are for me, the greatest musical recording invention ever. Great sound, virtually indestructable and portable - well if you have an old car like I do.

Amazing how most of this collection is in such great/pristine condition. In the early 70s while my parents and older brothers were into 8-track, I tended to love everything vinyl. However a few years ago I found an 'Admiral' brand portable AM/FM 8Track player from a flea market for $5. After getting it home to test, it played a tape horribly for about 30s before eventually snapping a belt. Before tossing it, I had this wild idea to wire an input jack to the tape head connections to see it would function as a PA or guitar amp. To my surprise it worked well and ended up being my workbench guitar amp which I still use for testing purposes. It's pretty f-in loud too and even distorts at higher volumes. I'll probably do a demo video and post it on youtube soon. Great channel, great stuff.. Cheers!

Thats a fantastic story - please post a video of that. I'd love to see it. And I thought my tightening up of my 8-track player was impressive, after a professional refurbished it with new belts etc. You are a true engineer - very cool.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow lol, if I were an engineer, I'd rather have restored it to play tapes again as you did for your unit . To be honest I was surprised my tinkering worked at all. Not bad though for five bucks, ha ha! Looking forward to seeing more of your music collection hauls.. Rock on!

So cool that you have 8 tracks! I have… none! I don’t think I’ve seen one since my parents got a new card in, like 1975… I have some less than tangible memories of some kind of Norwegian music 3 year old me asked to hear again and again being on 8 track 😄

I gotta correct you. Alan. They do still make 8Track tapes.....They are coming back just like cassettes. Nancy Sinatra is selling 8Tracks on her website.I have seen some others as well. Never did them. I had cassettes in the car....a Volkswagen Beetle. It was orange 😂

An orange Volkswagen Beetle with a cassette player - David you really were cool. Mine was a blue used Buick Regal and I put in an 8-track - was never so happy - Still selling 8-tracks - to play on what????? I had to get the player I bought completely refurbished and still didn't work well, until I took it apart. That's crazy - I'm gonna look that up. I find them for like a dollar but I'd say on average 50% don't work.

i never had an 8-track player back in the day. I did have the van halen albums on 8-track in my collection but sold them off a year or two ago. BUT I did have the toy in the 70s called 2XL. He was an interactive robot that talked thru 8-track tapes. I still have him. I dont have the power chord anymore so not sure if he works. Would love to get power chord and plug him in and see.

I never heard of that toy, until you mentioned it before and I looked it up...or you showed it in your video. That was cool. You gotta get the power chord. You know the older we get, we revert back to our childhood it seems. Here I am excited about 8-tracks - spent most of the month listening to them.....and I damned LOVED it....lol

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow yeh i looked into buying a chord a few years ago. someone had them but they were expensive. i don't have any of the 2XL cartridges anymore either. So I would have to buy a chord and either a cartridge or an 8-track to test it out. And then it'd be cool but only for a few minutes. I should have him out on display in my apartment. maybe when i get home later this ummer I'll put him up somewhere.
