I wouldn't say it was a case of "forgetting it" simply because the Yugas (however long they may be) belong in time. Time is a concept (relative) that appears within the timeless (absolute).

When I was young I read the Vedas, the Mahabharata and more besides the Koran and I already knew parts of the bible. The Hindu religious books made most sense as they read like history.
