hi chuck...you dont need to worry about tight joins between adjoining strips, tight is good but not essencial...just lay the strip to glue down...overlapping the glued strip its to abutt...lay another overlay strip directly over the glued strip, this strip is to be a straight edge to draw a line along the strip to glue for the cut line of the overlap. Do this for as many full length strips as possible, as the bilge turns get more pronounced the worse the problem, and use the offcuts as infills, they will need to be trimed to fit, with a small edge plane (on the boat as you inlay them neat)...take care to avoid what waste you can without wasting time thought :-)

look up the Gougeon Brothers boatbuilding book online and look for the section on spiling for cold molding --- it explains how to do this properly and get them all to fit without buckling

Great Job. Looks like it is coming along. I am looking into buying plans and starting the same project. Do you think the plans you bought clearly show you everything you need? Will this have a lead keel of any kind? I am very curious to see the center board / Keel setup as you build it. Thanks

Hi, never saw your comment until now. sorry for the delay. The plans leave a lot to be desired. Maynard Bray has a book about building the Haven 12 1/2, which I bought and have referred to often, however I find the book a bit lacking as well. This is largely why I have been doing this video series. The plans call for traditional planking so I have veered off course in that regard but this is because my boat will not live in the water, rather a trailer. and yes, it will have a lead keel. See my episode 41 called Get the Lead Out. I'm back to work now. Did you buy plans??
