He’s behind one of the most successful rap duos of the ’90s (and a little track called Shook Ones (Pt II)). For NYC legend Havoc, it all started with cassette sampling, loop recording and old school classics.
The Infamous Classic Kit, built exclusively for LANDR, is a throwback to those early days-a collection of vinyl drums, loops and one shots from unearthed Mobb Deep samples.
We take a look back at Havoc’s humble beginnings and touch on the importance of building a legacy for future producers.

I can relate to what Havoc was saying about listening to songs on the radio then recording bits of curtain songs piecing them together to make your own track or beat, I had a bra who introduced me to that in the early 90"s, that is what got me into beatmaking or and music production, and the fact that we had nooooo money. @@LANDRmusic great cos i heard timbaland say something about him having 1 second of sampling time and making beats like that. The ingenuity of old school sampling is actually beyond our modern comprehension. At least mine. Id love it if these techniques were preserved.
@EricEustace
@EricEustace 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ayo.Ajisafe to make a pause mix tape, you had two cassette decks. Deck one has the original song you want to loop. Deck two has the blank cassette you want to record to. First, you hit record on deck two then press play on deck one. You let the loop play right before the the end then hit pause on deck two. Finally, you rewind deck one a little before the beginning of the loop. Hit play on deck one, then just as it gets to the start of the loop, you hit play on deck two. In this way, you slowing build a looped song. Timing is key. As for the one second sampling, producers used to spin the record really fast then sample in to their machine. Then they would take the sample and pitch it waay down. This would extend the sample beyond what the machine was limited to. It also gave the sample a cool, "grainy" sound. Hope that helps in explaining!
