My husband lived in Oahu for 3 yrs. while his father was in the Marines, and my son lived there 3 yrs. while in the Navy. My family visited him when he was stationed there. A neat experience! Even though it was expensive, it won't get any cheaper, one day looking back on this trip (many yrs. from now) you'll say "I can't believe how cheap it was going to Hawaii." The cost will only escalate.

I just want to say what a great dog mom you are. So nice hear you say and show so often that Cider is a valued family member and has so much fun joining the rest of the family on all the adventures. It is beneficial for others to know to handle logistics for the fur babies or it can seem as if it is impossible.

Thank you so much! That is so kind. We love her to pieces and it would have broken ALL of our hearts to leave her. Hawaii is intimidating to bring a pet but we were so prepared for it that it really went so smoothly.

Well Im travel nursing alone in rural montana and making 2600 a week net but it sucks though the money is great. My kids are in college so that is why Im doing it now. Im just going on vacations when I get back with my kids and husband. Great experience. That sounds stressful though. I did a contract for a year back in 2007 in Tucson and ended up moving there so that was a great deal.

Did your agency pay for housing or at least a percentage? Is this a 1099 job? If so you can deduct certain expenses on your tax return. Great breakdown and love you did it from your pool❤

Thanks! Travel nursing does include housing as part of the entire pay package. The total amount including stipends and hourly was around 2k/week. Yes, it is/was a low paying assignment. We are past covid money and Hawaii is a high demand location so they often do not pay super high. Of course it depends on specialties and there were some strike assignments paying waaaay more. It comes down to what we could get and secure at the time. Travel nurses are only taxed on hourly. The stipends are tax free which does help come tax time. :) Plus, we are able to write off business expenses for our business so that will help as well. :)

Did you duplicate expenses when you lived in the RV?

Yes we did. We bought the house in 2022 but before that we rented fair market value from John's parents to maintain a tax home in Kansas.

Yes we got 1150 of the total 1600 deposit we spent for the van and house. That was less cleaning fee and pet fee.

I'm amazed. Fuel and food in Kona wasn't much more than in the State's and some stuff was cheaper.. Hated Hilo,so there's that.Housing was ridiculous.
