This genre is the perfect blend of vintage jazz, a bit of vintage surf rock, and of course cultural Hawaiian melodic style! The music here is so uniquely amazing. It’s peaceful, with such an unconventional songwriting style compared to the American “mainland” music of the day. 👍

Loved Hawai’i with all my heart when I was stationed there from 1983-1986. Wife and I met on our ship and married at Barbers Point at Sunset 38 yrs ago. We are going back for the first time since in two months. I can’t wait!! Hawai’i No Ka Oi! 😊

@@lynnbradley6622 Better than we had expected. We’d thought we’d not go back after this trip because we had not been back for 38 years prior to it. After our second day back we’d already decided we were coming back in two years. Well that’s gone out the door as we are going back next year instead!! I’d forgotten how much we love Hawai’i! We actually went back to the beach at Barbers point that we’d married on 37 yrs earlier. And we were blessed to be able to do it on our anniversary. I surprised her with a new Hawaiian wedding band as she’d lost hers about 20 yrs before. Can’t wait to go back!!

I lived on Hawaii for nine glorious years 1982-1991 when I was stationed at the Pearl Harbor Naval Base. I also got married while in Hawaii, it wasn't on the beach, but in a nice little chapel. My youngest son was born at the Tripler Army Medical Center, the pink hospital in 1983. I always tell people he's the best souvenir I brought back from Hawaii. I haven't been back since though. Gotta go!

I was exposed to Hawaiian "vacation music" in the 60's growing up. My dad served time in the Pacific during WWII as well as my best friend's dad and the music was always on. I had an older brother who was into SoCal surf music, and later in my life discovered Hawaiian slack key guitar music. All this brings back memories of Hawaiian vacations past. God bless our dad's for cultural exposure, thanks for posting this music uninterrupted.

you are Probably aware of the Volcano Disaster that destroyed thousands of homes and also made people homeless : But did you Know what they {America}were doing and are doing with the People of Hawaii !! It's as well that you were there only a few Months ago; Please May I Just say that this Peaceful Island has turned into a Blood bath; If you go onto KZfaq and Type F E M A Death Barges Hawaii you will see what I Mean ! But where I shall start is that when the Volcano had Destroyed the Homes of thousands of displaced People F E M A offered them shelter at one of their Bases; The Problem when they got there they were forced at gunpoint to Hand in their Mobile Phones ! It then that they they did one of two things; they were Shot at Point blank or they were Guillotined ; Then at 3:33 in the Morning the F E M A Team went to the Places such as the Village Halls or they were taken from Civic Centres at Gun Point and Put into what I call Cattle trucks and then taken to the Coastline and then Forced into on to the Barges and then put into Either Shipping Containers or into Prison Barges; Some were to be Gassed out to sea and some were Thrown overboard alive for them to have Target Practice upon and also for the sharks to eat; Some Shipping Containers were to have the Doors spot welded and then the people within them were to be Dropped into the Ocean; A Trawler that was A Few hundred Yards away Spotted the Barge dispose of the Containers He took Video Pictures of the whole incidents; Some weeks later Divers went down and saw Hundred or so Containers of which all except one Metal container was shut up where the Door came open just a little; the divers saw Body Parts of which was cut up ; and of course America said that it was conspiracy . Tell that to those fifty or so Bodies washed up on the Beach of Hawaii; Perhaps Now that I Have told you these things Perhaps you Might pass this information to Friends

The fact that the majority listening to this is reminiscing on old Spongebob is kinda depressing. I reminisce of old Hawaiʻi and family gatherings, the stories of my great grandfather singing some of these very songs as he toured as a musician, I think of sandy beaches and land before they were bought to build hotels for the tourist industry, I think of the freedom we once had in my town to ride our horses to work before we no longer could cause the police would get called to come to rile up "those crazy rebel Hawaiians". Among other things, I think of how I miss how this music took me back to days that listening to it felt like warmth, it reminded me of my grandfather's hugs and my ancestor's loving smiles. I miss when things weren't taken away from us for gain and profit. Such as the essence of this music....cause now along with my papa, nana, and my ancestor's faces, my mind is tainted with the image of a fricken pineapple under the sea.

@@yogieyo9935 You missed the point. This music you're listening to isnʻt Hawaiian music. What people are "admiring" is a white washed, touristy attraction, cartoonesque jingle that cheaply trys to steal the essence of a specific era of music in Hawaiʻi. So no. Not thankful of people taking and profiting and misrepresenting. So unless you can relate so anything I'm saying, unless you have any understanding of what its like, and unless you have a more valid, educated point you wanna make instead of trying to attack how I love my family 😂 maybe donʻt comment on something you know not of.

I can't blame you for having resentment towards the elite government officials who took over Hawaii, nor for having resentment towards arrogant, rich tourists who don't have any respect for the true culture of Hawaii, but please try to hold back any resentment for those who simply reminisce about Spongebob while listening to this music. What you must try to understand is that, whether these Spongebob fans are smart enough to realize it or not (and I'd say at least a somewhat decent portion does in fact realize it), what they're actually reminiscing about isn't just the show itself, but rather the nostalgic memories that relate to the show: the memories of their childhoods. This particular type of music, regardless of whether you want to call it Hawaiian music, a specific era of Hawaiian music, or a cheap knockoff of true Hawaiian music, does a very good job of bringing out feelings of nostalgia in people, and I'd say that's because of the simplistic yet free flowing nature of its sound, which is also the very naure of youth that people miss when they age. What you feel when you listen to this music is the same type of nostalgia that all these Spongebob fans feel (at least the ones about my age), whether they realize it or not. My younger years may not have consisted of riding horses to and fro and getting to listen to concerts on beautiful beaches with family, but it did have just as much love and freedom and relaxation in other ways. Spongebob for me just so happens to be one of those other ways, and although I admit that it doesn't sound as great as your memories, how would I have known any better when I was that young? I agree that it's sad that almost no one nowadays can experience the wonderful life you had growing up, but considering just how bad the political landscape of the world is nowadays, the truth is that not many people will get to experience as good of a life as I had growing up either, and my childhood was probably pale in comparison to yours. The people who run this world are more evil and greedy than most people imagine, and in the ways that they've ruined Hawaii, they've also ruined most of the United States, and even the whole world to some extent. You're not wrong that Spongebob only exists as a result of this disgusting takeover of freedom and cultural beauty, but please understand that the average Spongebob fan isn't going to think of that when they hear this music, because to them, the feelings of nostalgia speak a lot louder to the needs of the human soul.

@@zackszekely6618 nowhere in my first comment or in my second did I state that people, in general, can't enjoy or be nostalgic of old spongbob or reminisce nor did I show resentment towards those who listen to this music or "elite government officials who took over Hawaii"...This has to be one of the most colonizer, white comments. I basically said it's sad that this music is what people think of when they think of Hawaii and itʻs a link to spongebob. I donʻt "want" to call this Hawaiian or not Hawaiian, it is not Hawaiian, so donʻt try to de-justify what I'm saying. something people do is they taking things that indigenous people say, often things these people deem important or are trying to protect or explain a "why we feel this way" to, and rationalize it, de-value it, explain it away, or even make it relatable as if we all have the same generational wounds and live with the same ripple effect from things like a language being stripped away and not allowed to be spoken, or an illegal overthrow of our kingdom, or our land being taken and our native people being tossed to the shittest pieces of land while the rich mainlanders can have the best, while our ancestors' graves get dug up to make space for those houses, for Disney hotels, and billionaires, while our sacred lands get raped. I donʻt have to understand anything with the point you are trying to make, especially when you seem to so blatantly pass over mine to try and make your own. I wasn't asking for anyone who listens to this to know Hawaii's history or know the difference between real Hawaiian music or this tourist stuff. I wasn't asking for people to be nostalgic about Hawaii's old days instead of old spongbob and their childhoods watching it. this conversation didnʻt even need to go past my first comment but people so often feel the need to come back at the perspective they canʻt relate to. i wonʻt be responding to the this anymore. such a waste of energy

@@chaminako I won't expect you to waste energy by replying again to this, but I would appreciate you at least reading it, especially since it feels as though my energy has been wasted as well. I was never attempting to overlook your point just to make my own, I was simply just trying to put myself into your shoes to try and see where you were coming from. This obviously made you a bit uncomfortable, so for that I apologize. I will admit, I'm struggling to see where in my reply I failed to get certain points across, so perhaps that is a failure on my part to convey all my thoughts with words. Also, I'm sorry you feel that me trying to draw comparisons between the downfall of native Hawaii and the downfall of everywhere else was somehow devaluing Hawaii's history. I can promise you with 100% certainty I was definitely not trying to say "Hawaii hasn't suffered as much as you think it has." Some places have it worse than others, and I would agree that Hawaii probably has it worse than most other places at the moment. So, to wrap it up, I clearly saw the relevance of everything I said because I was the one who wrote it, but I appologize for not being clear enough on certain points, and also for not doing a well enough job connecting these points back to the original subject. I can try to redeem myself with this final sentence that should be as direct as possible to the original point: I fail to see why you think it's sad that this type of music is associated with Spongebob, but I completely agree with you that most people who enjoy this music, including myself, don't know what real Hawaiian music is. If you have a link to some music, or at the very least, a search term to be able to fine good examples, I'd love to listen to some of it in my free time. But, just to reiterate my statement in the beginning, just because I'm hoping you'll reply doesn't mean I expect you will reply. Edit: I forgot to throw in a smiley face at the end. I know written words can't properly express what body language and facial expressions can express, so just know that nothing I said in this message was said in a hostile tone 🙂

Thank you for your nice music so much. I would like to go to Hawaii at once. Thank you very much.
