That is one alluring hike especially after the grueling trek I just returned from in the Eagle Cap WA. Vid from your new drone is awesome! Looking good Blitz.

Yeah, I was gonna go into Burke Lake, but someone was parked atvthe trailhead and there is only one camp spot...so I said ok...guess i will try this Hawkins Lake...I was very sad it was a short hike. Without filming took me 7 minutes to get back to my car.

Nice and easy! Haven't made up there yet. Been wanting to for years. Looked peaceful. Thanks for sharing! Hike on!

Yeah.... Sometimes easy isn't bad. Will be doing Davis Lake up there on the 26th. Rumor has it there is a few 20-inch trout in there. I have to check out your Engle Lake video..been wanting to get into that one...but a few years ago I stopped in at the ranger station and they said there was a Grizz near the lake that wasn't acting right. So I have just stayed away.

Just watched this again. My father-in-law used to have a huge satellite map poster of Kootenai National Forest and I remember seeing the Northwest Peak Scenic Area in the far NW corner of the the map and always wanting to go there. A search on Google or KZfaq shows just how little use that area gets.

You are correct. I want to get into Davis Lake next year...its right next door to Hawkins...apparently there used to be a trail but it hasn't been maintained for years and years.

Looked like a really nice lake! Did you run into anyone? I had to go look it up after I saw the sign to Burke..... not the same Burke I know. I hope you went over to that lake next!
@hyoh-wu9 ай бұрын
had the lake to myself. It was awesome. Yep I'm actually editing the Burke Lake video now. Had, that lake to myself also....and my hammock failed when I was sleeping....split in half. LOL...I laugh now but i threw a huge brush fit when it happened.

I was just surfing around on Google Earth and found these lakes.. so I did a quick search and lo and behold who just happens to have a video? Looks like a nice easy trip that I’ll have to check out sometime with a potential peak bag to Northwest Peak. I’m curious if that lookout is accessible? Thanks for sharing!
@hyoh-wu2 ай бұрын
Yes that lookout is accessible. There is a trail that goes up there...I'm gonna go partially up that trail and dive down into Davis Lake this summer. My intell tells me there is a Griz that hangs out down around that lake....so may be one we want to hit together.... I may go up and over into Aster Lake and to Skelly lake also...just depends. I hit the Purcells pretty hard last year....mainly cause I can fly my drone. Lol
@hyoh-wu2 ай бұрын
FYI ....tons of fish in Hawkins Lake. Tons....I just never catch any.
@DannyJSchaefer2 ай бұрын
@@hyoh-wu Yeah I believe that with the Griz. It’s only a matter of time before I have a face to face encounter with one I’m sure. But for sure let me know when you’re planning a trip and I’ll see what I can do. Looks an awesome area and I haven’t explored up there much.

Less than a mile to a gorgeous lake and to have that kind of solitude - other than the potential grizzly. Can’t beat that. I’m really tempted right now, but thinking I’d prefer to have a couple dogs. One that is alert and barks loud and another whose bark sounds more like a 44 mag - if the bear spray isn’t spicy enough.
@hyoh-wu9 ай бұрын
Yeah I lucked out for sure....as I was driving out the next day 4 vehicles were going in. Blitz will definitely let me know if something is there, and have my bear spray and 44 as back up. Lol!
