Florida, in particular, must be some version of Anti-Germany that will have his head reeling constantly. I think the issue Mike has comes from our Rechts-vor-Links. In germany when there's no sign it's assumed to be Rechts-vor-Links. Since they don't have this rule in the US it just does not apply. Fun fact: At highway entrances in germany, where you usually turn left or right onto a short piece of road that actually leads onto the highway, usually the drivers who turn right have a "give way" / "Vorfahrt gewähren" sign ( VZ 205 ) and the people turning left into the same direction usually have NO SIGN. This is actually really confusing because there are really rare situations where there is such an intersection with no signs at all and in this case Rechts-vor-Links applies and the one on the right would have the right of way. I've seen rare cases where they actually put a signs on both lanes right of way ( VZ 301 ) and a give way sign. Though those are rare cases. So if you are turning left you have to check if the one on the right has a sign or not to determine if you have the right of way or not. Many people in germany claim: "No, the person on the right always has to wait in those situations", however that's not true. Those are actually poorly designed intersections as there's way too much room for interpretation.

Lovely video, you two. Mike, I live in the tropics since 30 years, Maui, and I hate winters. But I miss the dynamic of the seasonal changes. Beautiful autumn colors, and after the winter hibernation, every plant, every person, coming out again, presenting themselves, sitting in the street cafes in Munich til late evening, that's what I miss. Here, and I guess, not much different in Florida, always the same. Oh well, you have hurricanes for a change once in a while.

I believe the Greeks have similar rules regarding setting up stop signs. I made driving there on holiday absolutely nerve-racking :-).

I always thought of Mike as someone who would eventually move to America because of the way he speaks about it, and how it seems to suit him and his interests. From my experience in the passenger seat with a German driving in America, the location of the traffic lights and the questionable visibility of stop signs will continue to be a problem.

Hi Mike, I lived in Orlando for years. Aldi in Florida sells Gluewein and the Gewürtz- Cookies ( at least did 2 years ago). You will be fine. They even have german products throughout or german weeks like we have American weeks in Germany. All the best on your new adventure.
