To get ready for Season 6 of Hops & Gnarly Brewing today is all about cleaning.
My freezer is stuffed to the brim with leftover hops so I’m making this, a 5% hazy pale ale dry hopped with Citra, Columbus, and Idaho 7.
I’ll also give you a glimpse of what it takes to keep this place looking spick and span
Let’s make some beer.

When you described that bite from the hops, I felt it. Recently had my first case of hop burn with a dry-hopped saison but after 2 days in the fridge it’s already clearing up! I’m sure the in-line filter will be great. Looking forward to the next season as always! 👊🏻🍻

Looks like you've got everything dialed in already, but here's an advice/alternative for purging when dry hopping. Instead of hooking up a CO2 hose on top of the hop dropper, you can purge from underneath with the CO2 that's in the fermenter (this only applies if you spunded the beer prior to dry hopping). Just crack the valve a tiny bit and CO2 will fill the hop chamber from bottom up (instead of shooting it in from above). Purge a couple of times and then drop the hops. No gas connects, CO2 tanks etc. needed, just a release valve on top. Great video as always!

I'd like to see you try and brew on some basic equipment, like when the electricity goes out, what would you use. I think I still could do it using fire and a brew kettle, but electric systems have me spoiled! Great vid

Challenge accepted! I recently tried to see if I could boil 3 gallons of water on a cement block rocket stove but it didn’t have enough power. Do you think I need a cast iron pot?

What exactly is a hazy pale vs a session NEIPA? I make my hazy pale as a weaker NEIPA. I do 70% 2-row 30% flaked oats. I added some whirlpool hops to get about 20 IBU, then added about 1oz/gal dry hops. Do you add less hops or same amount as a NEIPA? I like going low ibu to get more juicy flavor and the dry hops add a enough perceived bitterness. I do a NEIPA water profile with RO water. Going to try verdant yeast next, last batch was s-33 and it under attenuates, not sure if that’s a bad thing for a hazy pale. My ideal hazy pale tastes like a NEIPA but I don’t get a hangover or feel sick after drinking a few of them.

Have you ever had an interest in doing a barley wine (of any style)? I know that's not really what you go for on this channel but I'd be curious your take on it.

Hey Dan, thanks for the content! Would be great to have an analysis of the F40, as it's a really interesting piece of equipment! Question: I see that you boil water to 82 celcius for the PBW, isn't that a little too much? I was under the impression that 60 odd degrees would be enough.

Plenty more F40 content coming soon! Five star recommends 130-180F and a 30 min recirculation

Let the beer hangout overnight? Did you not use a wort chiller?
@HopsANDgnarly
@HopsANDgnarly Жыл бұрын
Yea I used a counterflow chiller here but in certain months it can’t drop the temp all the way to pitching temp so I let the glycol finish the job. And sometimes I wait to pitch the yeast in the morning when the light is better for filming

We understand that you want to brew a complex and sophisticated beer with the least amount of energy (as your sponsors). But for most of your subscribers, simple homebrewers, this is impossible, so I would like you to return to simple and understandable (especially for beginners) ways of brewing simple, but tasteful beer. Because those who have the same cool equipment and accessories do not need to watch any KZfaq channels. We all hope you will understand.

Hey dude nice to see ya down here again ✌🏼My goal has always been to inspire homebrewers around the world to pursue brewing as a craft by sharing stories from my own pursuit. I need to be curious and interested in something to make a video about it so naturally over time things are going to progress. That said I’ll make a conscious effort to look for topics that fit this request. If you have any specific ideas let me know!
