Made another video about Halo , where I searched on KZfaq videos of all the moments (or some of them) between Cortana and Gravemind ; I didn't found nothing so I made one , with allmost all of the moments and a little compilation with 2-3 cutscenes.

Mendicant Bias, the forerunner Oracle that had been charged with discovering the parasite's weakness had the same thing after having a nearly 50 year long conversation with the Precursor, and Mendicant Bias ended up betraying the forerunners due to it's very programming that the forerunners installed it with. It believed the assimilation the flood did, was progress towards the next evolutionary phase for the universe, and that the resistance the Forerunners gave, was ill-minded, and went against the purpose the forerunners gave it. Study Mendicant Bias. Cortana is doing the same thing I'm sure. But I expect Cortana to end up as an ally again, and her to have a legit physical vessel. The flood will definitely return.

In this line, Cortana was trying to snip back at the Gravemind for what he said earlier ("we exist togheter now, two corpses in one grave"). The "a colection of lies, that's all i am" was Cortana speaking, refering to the Gravemind. After realizing this, the Gravemind takes her COM system and changes what she wanted to say. The last part ("stolen thoughts and memories") was the Gravemind speaking through her voice, that's why it sounds different. This line is in reference to the Cognitive Impression Modeling, the form with which humans created smart AIs such as Cortana. After this, the Gravemind even remarks that "some part of her remains?". Cortana then laughs, in response (yes, it's the real Cortana laughing in that creepy way)

This allows it to do things like project its thoughts across the galaxy, or upon the formation of a Keymind, control Precursor technology like Star Roads (though thankfully the Halo rings destroyed most precursor technology so we don't have to worry about that). I love the line in the beginning of a Cortana: “Child of my enemy, why have you come? I offer no forgiveness, a father’s sins, passed to his son.” It’s interesting because a lot of what Gravemind says is actually biblical, along with the Halo story itself. This specific line references child as humanity and enemy as the Forerunners. The line connects somewhat to Exodus 34:6-7: “And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”

Remember this is before 343 decided to fuck with lore and made the Forerunners into an entirely different species. It was heavily implied before then that the forerunners were ancient humans. In my mind that line shut and closed the case.

You can’t forget this ! Behold a pale horse ! That song itself is a reference to the Bible. Cortana in Halo 5 is very biblical at the end of the game. She even says that those who disagree with her plan will have to face her wrath which is fire.

The problem is that the whole sins of the father thing is completely irrational, so why would a supposedly intelligent bieng like the Gravemind use this logic? My head cannon is that he knows what he's saying is flawed, but he uses it because it works so well at manipulating people, just like in real life. For him to lie like this is not that surprising to me considering how much he lies about Cortana and many other things.

Damn it all, if only she found her way into the Domain before her Rampancy drove her mad.

+SinDawg030 I think the domain is what made her crazy. Its highly likely according to the end of Halo 4 that she has reached metastabillity however she seem to be rampent in Halo 5. I think that the domain did it to her, after all its a precursor creation that had been destroyed when the Halo fired and had return shortly after a gigantic flood outbreak. I think its the Gravemind's back up plan, a technological flood.

@Mister_Kourkoutas 8 жыл бұрын
Ge Smith Makes sense really. Rampancy in Human AI's is caused by what is essentially a lack of memory storage space to put it simplistically. The Domain has nigh unlimited processing power and infinite storage space since it is stored in the 11 dimensions of slipspace itself.
@name7251
@name7251 8 жыл бұрын
SinDawg030 Actually thats not rampancy. Here is a definition from wiki: Smart artificial intelligences are based on the neural patterns of a human being, and they have a limited lifespan of seven years after which their memory maps become too interconnected and develop fatal endless feedback loops.[2] Thus if an AI is kept active longer than seven years, the AI begins to use more and more of its computer power 'thinking' about things. Dr. Halsey explains it as "thinking so hard that your lungs forget to breathe." They think themselves to death. Thus, it is only a matter of time before Smart artificial intelligences become rampant. Which means storage has nothing to do with it. Whatever the domain did to Cortana was far deeper than storage space, it altered her mind so she won't think herself to death but while doing that it probably altered her mind in other ways as well.

In the back of my mind, in H2 when she said she didn't want to risk a "remote detonation", I feel that was an excuse. The logic plague in case some of you don't know is sort of like reaper indoctrination from mass effect but for both artificial and organic life that the flood used on forrunner AI's to make them betray the forrunners or just make them do actions that would unknownling help the flood like for example use a guardian to EMP an planet so when the flood come back the planets inhabitants couldn't defend themselves.

It's funny. Hearing the Gravemind speak of victory and salvation reminds me of the Darkness in Destiny 2. This being that threatens all life but offers you a hand in alliance, a promise of power or victory but it's only a means to an end in order to further it's own agenda. To become the final shape in the universe by rendering everything else asunder.

Like combine everything powerful about oryx, xivu arath and savathun into one and make it a being that can actually infect the very fundamentals of reality into it's own. At least that's what I get from the forerunner trilogy. I just wish destiny had this level of dialogue.

It almost felt like Cortana cheated on the master chief with the flood and so chief faithfully tried to fix Cortana by himself but like they always say, you can't fix a broken heart, all that abuse Cortana went through when she was dealing with the grave mind overwhelmed her to the point of corruption, almost killed the master chief many times. This so relatable in a way if you think about it, not many people see it but how many times did a female get with the abuser and corrupt her mind and then the faithful guy comes around to sweep her off her feet and fix her problems?

I can't believe people DIDN'T like the Cortana and Gravemind Moments. "It slowed the gameplay to a halt!!!!1111". What are you talking about? You had to stop shooting aliens for almost five entire seconds? Jesus, I can't imagine what these people think of having cutscenes then. And rather than slowing down the pace, I think it picked things up. I remember my first time playing the level Cortana, the sounds of Gravemind getting progressively angrier while Cortana was descending painfully into rampancy before my very eyes and ears made me fight to get through the level faster, forced a psychological time limit on me that I logically knew the game didn't have. I had to get to Cortana NOW, and so help me God I was gonna stick a plasma grenade up Gravemind's ass if she couldn't be saved. I'm not saying that Halo should be filled with this sort of thing, but the Cortana and Gravemind Moments greatly enhanced the mood, tension, and atmosphere. For those who think that they slowed down the gameplay, just play Firefight over and over for as long as you play Halo. That mode was made for you. [Not dissing Firefight, of course. I love Firefight. Especially now that MCC has Flood Firefight :) .]

Before Halo: CE came out, a Cortana character posted cryptic messages on a Marathon fan board, the shooter franchise made by Bungie before Halo, that’s also were a few maps, the Security helmet, and Forge came from.

Not every Halo fan has to have the same fucking opinion. 1) These moments happen when I'm not in combat. 2) I'm not struggling through the level. 3) I'm not speedrunning (I personally don't care for it) 4) I don't play on Legendary (I'm not an achievement hunter obsessed in trying to finish every fucking challenge I the game. Please let me know if I'm correct: When Cortana was left alone on High Charity, the Gravemind (or the last precursor) taunted Cortana with more information. This almost drive her to insanity. Gravemind relays signals to chief to mock him as Cortana becomes more and more corrupted. Cortana also has a secret (the domain?) which she refuses to reveal to Gravemind. But somehow it find out anyway. I'm pretty confused, although I feel like I shouldn't be. 😅

He introduced her to the knowledge plague, which shorts an AI's life span and brings on rampancy much quicker. I assume that Johns visions through the game have something to do with both He and Cortana's Geis. Back when he was still the Iso Didacta she was his paired AI. The Forerunners, Precursors, and the flood new how to communicate in ways like that as demonstrated in Halo 4.

well im not that well versed on the lore but neither am i ignorant of it, furthermore this is my interpretation, so take it with a grain of salt. regarding the line '' im a thief, but i keep what i steal''... well cortana is one if not the most knowlegdeable human AI when it comes to alien tech ( forerunner or covenant ) and aside for her first learning years with halsey most of this knowledge had been adquired through hacking or inrerfacing with aliens databases in combat situations so you could say that most of her knowledge is ''stolen''. which is relevant in the other line '' a colletion of lies is all i am, stolen thoughts and memories'' and also, she is an AI made from a cloned living brain tissue from halsey so if you sustract her experiences you could argue that she is 'fake' and has little originality because personality and thoughts stem from halsey.

Sheva provided a good idea on the collection of lies part. However the thief part, I believe, is her cryptically referring to the activation index for Alpha Halo she stole from Guilty Spark in Halo 1.
