Aside from from the missed knight tactic, Vincent basically played top engine moves the entire game, up until Bg2 where his 'best' move was to give up the c-pawn for free. Incredible how Magnus can force his opponent into a position where they play perfectly and still have to give up a pawn to hold onto a potential draw. One of my fav Magnus games of all time.

this is the first accurate comment I've read... I watched that game unfold on the stream and it was clinical the way Magnus complicated the postion to make the endgame a sharp precise line to a game that was dead drawn..

@@compositeur8455 Everybody says magnus blundered in this game. And it was a mistake according to stockfish. I would however love to know how many people would find in the first place that there was a winning move in that position. It's easy to say mistake/blunder with a chess engine next to you. Not all mistakes/blunders are equal. Not all drawn games are equal. Again I wonder how many people would have been able to draw this endgame against magnus. I imagine very few because from a certain point on it was only drawn according to stockfish, with perfect play and a lot of one moves from black. That is not that reasonable to expect from players, especially down the clock. There was also a game between Duda and Parham where at one move, stockfish said Parham was winning. After looking at the winning line both commentators said it wasn't reasonable to expect any player to find there was a win there. If you knew it was a win, you could maybe find it in the given time, but to first realise it was a win sounds quite impossible. Parham was supposed to play same Kh5-Kg4 moves until Duda was left out of moves (about 5 or so I think) to then leave him with a zugzwang which would afterwards lead to a win. An absurd line to find for any human. Long story short computers make us all experts but chess, thankfully is still played between humans.

@@alex86fire yeah in that duda game those king moves were ridiculous no one could have found it in that given position where you don't know if there is win or not those lines are ridiculous we can't except from players to find those moves. But these new 1000 rated players after seeing the line from engine thinks its easy to find them while they blunder there whole piece for free in there own games

Hey @agadmator, I'm a novice at chess but enjoy learning from your videos. Quick question, why do you say bishop 'pair' when you mean a single bishop. For eg at 2:07 you say "Magnus gave up his bishop pair"...while his other bishop is still on the board. Pair means two right? Or is this how chess language is? Each time I pause the video to see if I am following or did I miss both the bishops being lost.

Wow Vincent has been doing insanely well so far. Really impressive fortitude here. Obviously making good use of his time to not bleed too much while maintaining good positions, and still performing well once he reaches time pressure. Whether he manages to knock Magnus out (what an insane upset that would be) he's got a huge reason to be proud about this result.

Vincent is a superb player, playing against Magnus and fighting to this level is incredible...But yeah Magnus is an end game machine, very difficult to beat him in that.

That was rough. I went into watching this video thinking that I already saw a spoiler of Magnus losing. I fully expected to watch Magnus lose this one. whew!

I hate when the title spoils the result, so I appreciated this misleading (but accurate) title.
