Today we're discussing the 'He Gets Us' campaign, as promised! The $100 million advertising campaign seeks to promote Jesus and Christianity through TV spots in prime time, billboards, and social media feeds. These ads portray Jesus as a refugee, an activist, and an influencer, among other characteristics, and aim to communicate his relatability to modern problems (ultimately leading people to the "He Gets Us" site). Two of these ads ran in last night's Super Bowl and made big waves among Christians and non-Christians. One of the problems with the campaign is its claims about Jesus, which are not entirely accurate and/or are missing important context. The campaign does not align with any specific denomination or doctrine, but rather seeks to partner with churches and organizations who can use its resources for outreach. We discuss the major concerns of the campaign, but also highlight some of the good that can come from it. It's exciting to see a campaign like "He Gets Us" put big money behind helping people connect with Jesus, and we've already heard good stories of people hearing the gospel, but we can still remain wary of some of the campaign's messages that lack context and historical accuracy.

@@mrfideler everyone in the West knows about Jesus…problem is, we create a Jesus in our own image. We create a Jesus people are comfortable with and not offended by, a Jesus like us. There is one true Jesus of the Bible - He is the way, the truth, and the life - and that IS offensive to a people that want to go their own way, create their own truths, and live their own lives on their own terms. I do find the commercials emotionally compelling though and hope they lead people to the Bible and finding the one true God. 🙏

True, but people still need to repent, accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and live according to God's commandment and biblical law. So far, like the campaign to go after our young people...but I'll puke if I start hearing "Jesus gets us" and accepts your identifying as a fruit-loop and not one of the two sexes (birth male or female) , he gets how people support baby murder (abortion), and he gets people not committing to live by God's commandments and biblical law. The jury is still out on the Jesus gets us campaign...but there is hope. Cheers.

@@jimr880 Absolutely…people must repent! The Good News isn’t good to us unless we understand the bad news, which is that our sin separates us from God and we deserve His wrath. I just tuned in to the Super Bowl at the end and saw one commercial. It said something like "Jesus forgives the people we hate..." and I was like "I don't hate anyone. Who is the we? Speak for yourself." Christians are not suppose to hate anyone. So saying "we" just made it seem like Christians are just of the same breed as the world. "We" made it feel like all of us hate a certain segment of people. They could have done very much better than a bland ad like that was my honest feeling. Don't make it seem like Christians are just as much a part of the "We" as everyone else when it comes to hating others.

I really appreciate this. I was concerned myself and reached out to them after searching their website for the main point to their campaign (I was hoping it was salvation but that was scarcely found, it was hardly a mention). I think if they go through the trouble of ALL of this (if it is just a hook) then the MAIN point should be loud on clear once they’ve gotten to the website. The gospel truth of Salvation is what’s important here. The saving of souls for eternity, not just someone to relate to while down here. Thanks Allie.. I’ll be sharing this!! ❤️

I just wish the Christians funding and running the campaign had kept it biblical and not conformed to the world's expectation of Jesus. I recently watched an old sermon by Voddie Baucham and he said that many Evangelicals and the media portray Jesus as a sissified man. I strongly agree. That "He gets us" is pretty much that. Portraying Jesus as someone He never was. If Jesus is not God in the flesh then it's better to not even believe in Him. Those ads keep showing up to me too much, even though I blocked them lol Evangelicals are the main people who help refugees in the US. I remember that in a local FB group, someone was asking for information for a refugee family and I told them about a Christian non-profit that was helping Afghan refugees, the person just answered "I prefer no church is involved". Yeah. Matthew 10:22 is something I prefer to be recognized for.

@@lisaengel5243 That would be good, but I think he is still overseas as of now. I will say this: Any true revival will begin with, and be sustained by, the Bible. Expository preaching and teaching is God's primary means of conveying truth that leads to repentance, sanctification, and godliness -- none of which has anything to do with raising hands, singing, or weeping. From what I've seen, what is taking place at Asbury is based on emotionalism. If anyone can show me in the NT epistles where, for example, a sermon by Paul led to people confessing sin, singing, praying, and "forming a deeper connection to God," I'd like to see it. What "revival" looks like in the Bible is a return to the Bible, obedience to God, maturity and growth in the knowledge of God. Anyone can sing songs and cry; in fact, I did that as an unbeliever.

Hi, The best part was the last 10 minutes! Let's trust our sovereign God to use the campaign to bring Him glory. The campaign isn't perfect, but He is. This didn't happen by accident. Love to all!

Excellent critique of a Jesus that by no means exists through the "He Gets Us" campaign. The verses you cited summed up perfectly our relationship with Christ - "I must decrease so he can increase." Let's get OUT of ourselves in this ME ME ME society and learn that it's about JESUS and NOT about us.

I agree with the statement that they are trading Truth for relevance. All we need is the Holy Spirit and the Word of God! We don’t need gimmicks to lead people to Christ!

Appreciate your input on this. I think you are accurate in your conclusions. I think the Bible has ALL the answers. Instead of trying to make the gospel easier, rather than showing Jesus way of salvation. Life is NEVER about us!

I did have a odd feeling in my stomach seeing this. I felt torn between at least it’s a Christian ad and this just doesn’t feel… right. And i appreciate this video explaining more of what i was trying to put together in my thoughts.

There is nothing about the ad campaign that is Christian. Yeah, it uses the name of Christ to promote an agenda, but that doesn't automatically make it Christian.

@@theeternalsbeliever1779 agreed. Its like saying yoga is Christian because places practice "Christian yoga". It doesnt change what yoga is. Lol He Gets Us is totally false. Comparing Mary to a promiscuous teenager. Yikes. What worries me most is people who believe not seeing the problems with this campaign immediately.

Philippians 1:15-18 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,

People may say your tone is wrong, but I think you understand us better than a lot of older church leaders. We don't want to be gaslit and have people only share the things they believe with us that they think we want to hear. We don't want to be led to believe we belong at churches only to find out later that they were never clear about what certain roles secretly require of people. Be clear and honest with us about what you really believe and think. Don't try to shape shift into what you think people want you to be.

Heb 4:15 NIV For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet he did not sin. Jesus was a revolutionary. I think these commercials tell a true and relevant bit of his story.

Very good analysis. The ads made uncomfortable. I listened to one of the gentleman that is behind this on the Moody Bible channel and it did seem as if his heart was in the right place so I was receptive to having a positive opinion of the ads.. I was disappointed. However I am holding on to the hope that some really good things will happen. Allie you did such a great job of articulating how I feel about them. I don’t always agree with you for example predestination, but with this spot on.
