About the Panarin hit, I kept seeing Caps fans whining and crying about it and saying that “iF tHaT wAs ToM WiLsOn RaNgErS fAnS wOuLd bE LoSiNg iT HuRrRrRrrrrrr 🥴” The thing about that is… Tom Wilson has made a career of blindsiding, headhunting, and hitting from behind. He no longer gets the benefit of the doubt. He hasn’t for a very long time. It was like Matt Cooke… I loved the guy in Vancouver. Early on he played a hard, nasty game. Then it became dirty as fuck. If this was Panarin’s game, then, yeah, be mad as hell.

0:59 Pause video, put on .25X speed, click timestamp. Now allow it to go ahead a couple of frames and pause. Primary point of contact is shoulder to the head, then exploding in an upward direction. Loved this kid the first week, now all i see is his inability to control his huge frame and continuously make stupid choices putting player's careers at risk. How many times can he target the heads of players before one of them gets an injury that affects them for the rest of their life?

I do think this is a slightly misleading take. The elbow was tucked, contact was made with a tucked shoulder at high velocity. Defender does need to keep himself in a position not to be clobbered. I argue that the hit was so big that Rempes arm hit van Riemsdyks shoulder, then rempe's shoulder hit head because of the momentum. There was head contact but I don't see it as principal or intended. He just wanted to throw the body and he did so. Also the exploding outward is not applicable in this regard. Exploding outward after a hit is acceptable, exploding outward to make the hit is not acceptable. There will be a career ended by this man. But in the meantime I enjoy a powerhouse of a hit.
@TheSnapback
@TheSnapback Ай бұрын
Yeah you're not getting it. He did not raise his elbows, he went for the body. That's the first thing. The second thing is that van Riemsdyk put himself in a vulnerable position. Read rule 48.1, both of those things are reasons the hit can be considered legal. These are just big hits that are a part of playoff hockey, they are seen all the time but again this just has to do with his reputation. Saying he "targets the heads of players" is so insanely wrong, he goes for the body and since he's big sometimes there can be head contact. Doesn't matter since he is going for the body, if the player puts themselves in a bad position that's their fault.

So exhausting all of these people who just don’t understand what an elbow is, what a late hit is, or what a headshot is. A. There is a timeframe, after getting rid of the puck, when a player is still eligible to be hit. I’d say this one was borderline but not egregiously late and in the playoffs especially is fine. B. His arm was tucked at the time of the hit. And extending arm after contact is normal and is not an elbow anyway shape or form. C. Shocker, a players head can be contacted as long as it’s not the soul or principle point of contact. Both Rempe’s and Panarin’s hits were not. Through the body, even if head contact was part of that.

tbh i don't understand, i thought the rempe hit was charging not interference, and i thought the controversial hit on oshie was about hitting his head, not interference. even though it was more interference than the rempe hit and yet had no call and the rempe one did. and i thought the rempe hit had more head contact than the oshie hit. arent players supposed to be suspended for hitting the head? is that still a thing? idk i don't understand any of this

On the MSG feed you could hear someone yelling at TVR, you know Rempe is out there, he dumped the puck and was looking at his skates. All things you are taught not to do, he had speed to get around the net and the check wouldve missed or Rempe's big goofy ass would've lost his edge. The refs in the series have been terrible. Soft calls on both sides and missed calls on both sides, obviously they'll target the Rangers more because they have more physical players but 2nd round better not be like this
@The.Lake.Effect

I'm not sure if I'd call that a penalty or not. It was a big hit by Rempe, but he didn't really jump, and the principle point of contact wasn't the head. Honestly, his lower body hit Van Riemsdyk in the lower body first and he started to fall backwards. Rempe slammed into the glass, and didn't hit Van Riemsdyk in the head or even the upper body for the most part.
