Andre Miller was pass and layups. He made 46% of his layups the season before the defensive 3 second lane violation. Because of the rule his layup % went up to 50s and then even 64%. But yes he was a above average pass first point guard. But was terrible at shooting 3s and was a good or very good mid range shooter and then he was average.

Should've been an All-Star several times over his career. Him and Kyrie are the two best below the rim finishers of all time but Rod was dealing with guys like Ewing, Olajuwon, 'Zo, Shaq etc. when he got to the rim and opposing guards were allowed to hand-check him on the perimeter so Rod had it a whole lot harder

@f wam Rod's best seasons: 94-95 Portland 95-96 Portland 96-97 Washington 97-98 Washington 94-95 : Detlef, Marjle 95-96 : Clifford Robinson, Danny Manning 96-97: Christian Laetner 97-98: I could make a case for Strickland as well as the other players here but it's a bit of a wash as they all had good years, but: Vin Baker and Juwan Howard and maybe even TB. Bonus: 98-99 there is a similar situation to the one above but this time the names are: Steve Smith, Antoine Walker and maybe even Tim Hardaway. Only 97-98 and 98-99 can you really make a coherent argument for his omissions
@NOYOUSHUTUP3.14
@NOYOUSHUTUP3.14 3 жыл бұрын
@f wam reserves could be at any position back then it was coaches decision. Forgot about the lockout, good call in that. Quick aside here, I think the Knicks would've beaten the Spurs if Pat was healthy, although you could make an argument that his injury actually helped against the Pacers because Camby was too quick for Rik (sorry about that awful rhyme but, I couldn't resist) and the Davises didn't have the offensive firepower to exploit Larry Johnson like Duncan did. IDK, just a thought. Thanks for making me think and not play Miles Morales all morning😉

@jca4343 3 жыл бұрын
@@K.B.Williams He didn't cross him up. Watch the clip again. MJ saw Murasan coming up for the pick and he took a huge step to the side to try to cut off the pick. What Iverson did to him was a different story. Iverson almost put him on his ass.
@K.B.Williams
@K.B.Williams 3 жыл бұрын
@@jca4343 I can't even believe someone can even begin to attempt to argue that that wasn't a cross. When someone fakes like they're going one way but goes the other way and the defender takes the bait, like Jordan clearly did, then you got crossed. Jordan got crossed so hard he couldn't even recover. Y'all smoking moon rocks trying to say that wasn't a cross wtf
@jca4343
@jca4343 3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a cross like when Iverson did it. When Iverson crossed MJ, he just about landed on his butt. Here Jordan clearly takes a huge step to slide to his left to try to cut off the screen. He almost jumps to cut off the screen. Both of his feet were actually off the ground. The step he took was twice the size of a step he would usually take. You can even tell by the angle Jordan took. Watch it again. He doesn't slide in a direction to prevent Strickland from moving up court. He moved almost parallel to the side line, away from the hoop, to prevent Strickland from going around the screen. There is absolutely no reason for MJ to take the angle he did except to cut off the screen. If strickland would have gone toward the screen he would have been moving away from the hoop. There is no reason for MJ to challenge that. So basically Strickland faked using the screen. MJ jumped way over to prevent strickland from using the screen. Then because MJ jumped so far over Strickland was able to cut back.

Worst trade in Knicks history was trading Rod Strickland. Add him next to Ewing and Starks and they beat the Rockets AND maybe get past the Bulls in 93. And they probably come out the East in 95 not Orlando. We’re talking about a guy that averaged 19 and 9 from 94 to 96. He would have moved Starks from the second option to the third option. And would have resolved the Knicks biggest problem when they played the Bulls, which was their guards could not handle Chicago’s pressure. There were several playoff games were their guards would have 10+ turnovers combined. Some were games decided by 5 points or less. And then the Knicks three decade long point guard search started with this trade that happened one year before Riley arrived (who would have likely stopped that trade from happening). The Knicks spent four 1st draft picks either drafting a pg or trading for a pg in the first 6 years after this trade. This trade was one of the most damaging moves a franchise has ever made, it ranks up there with drafting Sam Bowie instead of MJ, drafting Darko instead of Melo/Wade/Bosh, etc.

@@Chevy-hw6lw Not comparable. Rod was a true PG. Starks was a SG. Back then, basketball roles weren't interchangeable. They were more traditional. So in that instance, it wouldn't be either/or. It would be both. But for the sake of discussion, Rod Strickland > Mark Jackson.

Story: There is a small gym at DePaul called Hayes Healy. It’s got one court. I saw some of the best basketball ever in that place. One night a bunch off former and then current DePaul players were in the gym. It was a rare occurrence because the Men’s Team players rarely played showed-up at Hayes Healy. This night was special. At one point Kenny Patterson DePaul guard who replaced Rod Strickland and who was a great player from LA was on one team, and Rod Strickland was on the other. The two team were going at it hard. Slowly, Rod and Kenny ended-up guarding each other. They started going at each other. What was a team game quickly became a whole court one on one. Everyone was watching. Rod Strickland destroyed Kenny Patterson. It was so crazy guys who saw still talk about it. Rod was the man. He took DePaul to our last Sweet Sixteen NCAA appearance. Rod was the truth.

@@blizzard2099 You don't get it do you. These two would've been in the pro basketball HOF if they did not die young. They don't get the recognition from today's fans. Today's fans just think Jordan play against midgets and scrubs. If Reggie Lewis didn't pass away maybe the Celtics would've stole some rings from the Bulls in the 90s.

@@supratrd900 I get and I agree with everything you said. Now *you* don't get it. They can only be as talented (before their deaths) and recognized for the accomplishments they realized, before their deaths, while playing before their deaths. Adding "before his death" is... I'll say superfluous.

Truman HS in da Bronx to DePaul because of another great NYC PG Kenny Patterson...then NBA career from 88 to ‘05. I remember all that press from NY Post and Daily News back in the day.

Problem is that there were too many good Point Guards. Penny Hardaway, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, John Stockton, Kenny Anderson, Kevin Johnson, Derek Harper, B.J. Armstrong, Dana Barros, Tim Hardaway, Isiah Thomas, Kenny Smith, Mookie Blaylock and so on. The All-Star rosters only had 12 players. The NBA in the 90s were great. And Strickland did it all. Points, Assists, Rebounds

I'm a 80s baby and I just always ASSUMED he at LEAST made one as a backup or something....I can't believe I didn't know this and I really watched him in Washington and Portland. I'm a short mf, so him, AI, Damian, and Muggsy was my favorite underdogs. In the late 90s.
