“If anyone can survive him, it’s her”
August 10th 2000 is a big day for 8 year old Midsi Sanchez as it’s her birthday party that afternoon, so she decides to walk home alone instead of waiting for her siblings like usual. Only one block away from her house, a man gets out of his car nearby and asks her to help him pick up something, and as she reaches down, the little girl suddenly vanishes from Vallejo. 3 days go by, until Midsi gathers her strength to escape one of California’s most dangerous serial killers.
To learn more about Midsi’s organization, check out this link: www.midsisanchez.org/

I really don't understand why the children at her school would be so cruel about a child surviving a horrible abuse. It's strange as it sounds like the school didn't do much to help.

That’s very true. My mom was repeatedly abused and molested by her father for 10 years since she was 3 and her father has been free for years. He was already convicted of one molestation when my mom reported him to police, yet he barely got any time. I can’t imagine how many other victims he’s hurt over the years; it could be many. And worst of all, her family took his side. Her mother knew about it and did practically nothing. Her sister shunned her and has no contact to this day, because she doesn’t want her bubble to be burst, she wants to keep believing he’s a good person; and even takes her kids to see him often. It's not always the parents. People forget that kids are their own people and can be little shits even with wonderful parents. I was bullied by a boy for THREE YEARS before his mother ever found out because the school NEVER called her despite them telling my grandmother they had. The bullying escalated where he threw Windex into my face. So my grandmother finally found his mothers number and we met up with his mother and told her EVERYTHING. The shock and sadness on her face was real that she didn't know. After that he never bothered me again and she would even called and check in to make sure.

I never understand why, when a kidnapped child is found alive and returned, that people think it's okay to immediately hold them up in front of a huge swarm of people and parade them all over tv. What a brave girl. I cannot believe all those people didn’t stop to help her. She literally had to risk her life by jumping in front of a truck 😢 how can people not stop to help a child who would obviously be distressed and unable to walk properly?? And to then get bullied in school for going through such a harrowing ordeal, I don’t get it. At such a young age trying to help find other missing kids after all that shows how strong and beautiful a person she is 😊 I wish her and her daughter all the best for their future and much joy in their lives ❤❤❤

Gotta understand that was just a quick rendition of the story and could've also happened very fast but time slows in fight or flight situations. Sounds like she was going perpendicular towards the street and the drivers proly weren't seeing a guy chasing her as he was way behind and their eyes are on the road, and for all we know people did end up stopping down the way once they got a passing glance of the situation.. She may not of been paying attention to them stopping once she hopped into the the guys truck.. For all we know traffic WAS slowing down for her, which finally gave her the urge to finally jump out. lots was proly going on for a child's mind to remember the whole picture and all she remembers is panic/fear - and I need to stop one of these cars and get in asap. I doubt most people aren't going to choose not to save a child, so I wouldn't be to negatively critical of the drivers. The party was a bad idea for sure, unfortunately the parents/family weren't thinking right. Sad

This story (and Xiana’s) were incredibly covered in my hometown (Vallejo) back then. Xiana went to my school and we all volunteered to look for her and then when Midsi was kidnapped and later escaped, it was joyous, but deeply painful and impacted her in ways this short doc can’t begin to express. The trauma was profound and unfortunately is lifelong. I can only empathize and pray for her and her family. Later on, I had the wonderful pleasure to teach her daughter and what a beautiful child she came out to be! I’m so proud of what she accomplished and overcame in the midst of a horrible experience

I was abused when I was 6 by a camp counselor. Well, not even a camp counselor. One of the goddamned cooks. I still don't remember it fully, but I do remember being taken to his cabin and then extremely well defined blank spots, multiple times. and being taken to see a doctor by other camp staff, but I didn't know what was going on. The amount of rage I have towards that man is incomprehensible, but I know it likely pales in comparison to that which people like Midsi have who endured _so much more_ than I did. I'm shaking with fury with tears streaming down my face midway through this video. I still don't understand how "people," can do this sort of thing to *fucking children.*

As a law enforcement transcriptionist for two counties in California, I hear a lot from Mexican families and kids. It seems to be a cultural thing.. There are a lot of parties, lotta drinking, any reason to celebrate whatsoever. A lot of kids get sexually abused at these parties too, from what I've heard! Although they may not speak up for a decade or more. This party seems really inappropriate and f*ed up to us but in some cultures it's "normal" I guess

Tommy Lynn Sells… the wildest part about his case that is rarely talked about is the mother who was convicted of killing her son and sent to prison for years…. Until a biographer of Sells recognized his handiwork in the crime and got him to confess. Other physical evidence corroborated his confession and the mother was exonerated.

I was about 6 years old out in my front yard kicking a soccer ball around when this yellow Chevy El Camino or Ford Ranchero pulled up and stopped in front of our driveway. Inside were two men in their early 30's, and the passenger leaned his head out the window and asked me to come over and help them with directions because they were lost. I remember dropping my ball and sprinting inside as fast as I could and that car sped off up the street. I'm an adult now and the thought of that moment still puts fear in me, so I can only imagine what Midsi or any other kidnapped child must have gone through. She's a very strong and brave young lady!
