This is one of the best comparison vids, not too much talking and straight to the point, but still informative in all the right places. On top of that, a perfect side-by-side comparison with no distracting sounds to make you forget the tone of the first example. This is insanely well put-together.

They sound pretty similar or at least similar enough, especially since most are going to run some sort of pedal in front of it to tighten it up and more than likely an equalizer in the effects loop. The EVH is almost half the cost so there’s that.

Wow. I adore the 5150IIIS, it's my favorite amp of all time. And you can hear it slicing on each strike of the pick. But my god, that Badlander barks so hard in the mids. I've got to try one of those now, every time I hear it in a demo, it impresses me.

Same here..I own a Stealth 50 watt head and its my favorite amp of all time..I had an original 5150 head and sold it less than a year ago and really don't miss it as much now that the Stealth arrived..I loved my original 5150-3 50 watt head but it was very dry..not so with the Stealth..just badass ! I will say this,this Badlander does sound incredible,but I found out the hard way that a lot of repair shops won't touch Mesa Boogie amps,so if a persons thinking about buying any Mesa Boogie,make sure any repair shops that you use or are trying to find works on them or you will be shit out of luck. Great demo here for both amps..I had no idea the Badlander sounded like this.

Killer comparison. Both amps sound phenomenal, with the Badlander taking the slight edge for me, as it's just a bit more balanced, juicy, and punchy. I am a Mesa guy, and I suspected they were chasing the EVH 5153 sound with the TC and Badlander editions, and I say they nailed it, while retaining some of that Mesa signature roar. PS: I really enjoy your EQ'ing in your demos. A lot more similar to how I dial in amps than some other demos I watch. Good work!

Great comparison! I already have the 5153S. I don't think there's enough difference between the two for me to run out and buy the badlander...but I don't think you could go wrong with either.
@gkswift1999
@gkswift1999 Жыл бұрын
Right? I think biggest difference is the fact that the Mesa has a bit more harmonic overtones throughout the entire frequency spectrum, which helps to give it a bit more bark at any volume compared to the stealth. The stealth hands down has been one of the best sounding amplifiers with tons of versatility, and the badlander comes out and just literally by a "c" hair barely tops the stealth at its own game. Now I'm confused because I love 5150 amps from Peavey on up, and I've been dead set on the 5150 stealth, but now the badlander might be worth the extra money!

The thing that sold me on the Badlander was the built in CabClone and I can get it in a combo which is perfect for going to friend's house to jam and practice. I've always seen the Mesa MK and Recto amps as having a more refined and smoother distortion character (if that makes sense), but the Badlander is really gritty and raw for being a Mesa. Love it! The Stealth is amazing as usual. It can become a bit harsh with the wrong pickups or cab, but when dialed in correctly it can hold it's own against whatever amp you compare it to.

For what I play, I think the Badlander suits me better, but both are freaking stellar. I tend to use VST's of a Dual Rectifier and an Orange Dual Terror and blend them together when I'm just dinking around recording ideas, and I'm in the middle of buying a Mesa Boogie Stiletto. I think I just need more amps. 😁

Like you said, mesa is much more balanced. Ive played my 5150III for a few years now, and im familiar with the sound. It lacks some lower mids and emphasizes that spike. Mesa im sure has a lot more headroom too for crunch. Doesnt have a ridiculous amount of gain. Im all for gain but you dont need a lot when you boost anyway with a TS. Cheers and thank you for the comparison 🙏

It seems like the EVH is more focused in the upper mids, whereas the Mesa is more lower-mid focused, hence the extra “punch.” Sounds like they both can be made to sound very similar in gain structure and presence. EVH amps have way more gain and presence on tap than is usable anyway. I feel like the upper mids of the EVH would sit better in a band mix, but I could be wrong.

Both sound great but I dig the EVH for it’s aggressive upper mids , the Mesa’s low mids get a bit boxy or mushy sounding but is the EVH the one with the EL34s or the newest one with the 6L6s? Great video, keep rocking,Cheers !!!

Greetings from Malaysia. Enjoy your channel. Is the badlander and 5150 both running EL34’s? I’m not familiar with the EVH but I know they came in either 6l6 or EL34 and you can change the tubes of the badlander from EL34 to 6l6. Thanks.

Too close to call! 5150III's have a biting "rasp" to them. That Mesa seems to have more mid girth. A different guitar and/or different speakers could alter things in either direction. Good job on the demo.

Both sound like they will open up and decompress more at louder volumes, in fact you can hear that exactly at 9:31 on the EVH, but I realise you can only crank them so far at home
@belligerentamateur

These were still fairly loud in the room, but not yet show volume. Yes, volume usually imparts some pretty noticeable changes for sure
@jammster

The stealth definitely has a better tone with the volume past noon. I use an ox box to play it at lower volumes so I can really saturate the tubes. Makes a a world of a difference in tone.

Great demo I’m a fan of both brands but endorse EVH,at gigs sometimes I just can’t be arsed with pedals and just go straight in so EVH appeals to me,I’m gla someone else noticed similarities in the room between rectos and EVH Once in a studio I had the original 50 6l6 and a mark 25 Once we recorded we realised that the difference between 6l6 50 and mark 25 was so similar there was no point using both
@belligerentamateur
@belligerentamateur 3 жыл бұрын
I could definitely see that with the Mark, especially with all the EQ options! I've also noticed how similar most amps sound when recorded through the same guitar/canb and effects. It's kinda crazy. I' a huge EVH fan myself, but the Badlander is really taking me for a ride and I'm not mad about it! Thanks for stopping by dude, love your demos!

Great Amp Vs Amp my friend. I'm curious on how the 5150 EL34 variant stacks up against the modded JCM 800 sounds of the Splawn, Mesa Stiletto, etc. I'm eyeballing a Mesa Stiletto and was wondering if it was worth the purchase if you already have the 5150 III EL34 variant.
@belligerentamateur
@belligerentamateur 3 жыл бұрын
The el34 5150 iii still sounds just like the others with minor differences. They definitely don't cover modded Marshall ground, so youre good to go on the stiletto or Splawn. (I say choose Splawn)
