As the first clinician to name an attachment injury as Mother Hunger, Kelly McDaniel, explores the legacy of maternal deprivation. The constant search for mother love can be a lifelong emotional burden, but healing begins with knowing and naming what we are missing. In this webinar, Kelly McDaniel helps identify the attachment injury she calls Mother Hunger, defines the 3 essential things a mother's job involves, and the disenfranchised grief that accompanies Mother Hunger wounds.

Mother Hunger is a life changer - a must read for all daughters, for those who have nurturing mothers and for those who don't. To understand motherhood is to read this book!

A narcissist mother and alcoholic father can definitely cause mother hunger! I do have your book but have not completed the reading yet. I am now working with a trauma informed therapist and starting EMDR this week. I do have an amazing AA sponsor that gets my head on straight and gives unconditional love. The pain and lonliness that I frequently experience seems never ending. I think I need a mother Hunger support group!

This is EXACTLY me except I want to do emdr and have a trauma informed therapist. If you ever wanna connect feel free. I have been wanting to do Zoom sessions with other folks with people who are estranged due to neglect and abuse. But a Mother Hunger support group would be ideal.

My mother had post partum depression after the birth of my baby sister. I was 4 years old, my sister only a few weeks old, when we were placed in an orphanage. My mother was given a lobotomy and was reduced to the functional age of a 5 year old. I had been my sister’s caretaker, but we were separated to different units in the orphanage. I was allowed to see her on the day we entered. I was shown which bassinet she was in. I also was taken to see her through a gate, the day she took her first steps. From there, we were placed in a series of 6 foster home placements. I was 4 and my sister 2 years old. We were starved, frequently beaten with belts or switches. We were forced to take long naps every afternoon. Out for supper, bathed and back to bed. Often we were accused of “something “ , which resulted in no dinner, beaten and back to bed. The physical and mental abuse was horrific. There is so much more, abusive husbands etc. Needless to say, I have deep parental wounds and attachment issues. Thank you for shining a light on the consequences of lack of a nurturing care provider.

Hello Kelly I learnt about you through The Red Table which I stumbled into last night on Facebook. I had never heard of 'mother hunger' before but when I listened to you last night and as I listen to you now, I realize just how much it has affected just about every aspect of my life, that I even think I am at the third degree, as you defined it. I don't think I can find the kind of therapy I need here but just listening to you is a huge relief. It took me all my adult life to decide to have a child and now that I have a four year old son, I am always doubting my ability to be a good mother. I'm 45 and so glad I found you here!

I love this! Everything I’ve studied and really believe in, I’ve practiced attached parenting and really had to block behaviorists from interfering. I also study those left in incubators cribs etc. I also agree with the daycares issues and how wrong neglect is! Thank you. As someone who had a very sick and toxic mother, I’ve tried my very best to learn from her mistakes. I am a doula, I nursed and co slept. I’ve worked with children for over 15 years at every level, probably also helped heal my inner child.

I've noticed covert narcissistic traits. I'm 3rd degree mother hunger. People use to feel sorry for me but I don't know anything different. My family left me because I am so fucked up in my head

Misandry and Misogyny are real phenomena, clearly. Almost everyone living can probably cite personal examples of each. On the other hand, to claim that "our" culture (which one do we mean?) is misogynist, is not a psychological statement but a political one.

It’s amazing that is all you got from a very insightful video about healing mother hunger. I think the political statement is the one you make about 'almost everyone' being able to cite personal examples of misandry and misogyny.

Are you suggesting that there would be, on average, the same number of reported cases of prejudice among men and women in the workplace, in families and society at large?
@ebyd2756
@ebyd2756 Жыл бұрын
BTW culture can simply be defined as our ideas, customs, and social behaviour. So I guess she is referring to ideas, customs, and social behaviour in the workplace, in families and society at large.

Misogyny and sexism has received a lot of attention in psychology (organisational psychology), psychiatry, and gender studies.

Thanks for the heads-up but knowing this is ultimately pointless. You can not change your past or who you are by talking about it. We are doomed by our parents to live out the fates they have provided for us in their lack of wisdom and personal sense of care. You can escape yourself, but not your stars.
