Thank you for this!! I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis a year and a half ago. It’s been complete hell and life-threatening. For too long, I was in denial that my lifestyle had anything to do with it. But since December, I’ve made drastic changes in my diet and try to live by the rule of “if it doesn’t benefit me, I won’t eat it.” This has helped my disease more than any steroid, any chemo or any immunomodulator I’ve been put on. I’ve learned the way you fuel your body is everything. Can’t wait to learn from you over the next 30 days!!

Hi Amanda, I'm so sorry to hear about your health problems and I'm sending you lots of well wishes and healing thoughts. I completely sympathize, I also thought I had this disease for a while (or maybe IBS) and suffered considerably. I finally saw a new specialist who gave me Cipro antibiotic and it turned out I had campylobacter poisoning (found in undercooked poultry). It took a while for me to recover but eventually I did and I'm about 85% better now... I just wanted to mention this in case it could help maybe yourself or anyone out there with the symptoms. It's just good to rule it out... I read campylobacter is the most common bacterial infection of the gut that people get world wide. Christine, I really appreciate your healthy and mindful videos and sometimes it's nice to get some coaching about what to eat. Or to just have a friend to watch, showing good habits. I still have a lot of other inflammation like chronic asthma and joint pain so eating very well really helps. It's hard to stay on track but definitely notice the difference. :) All the best, Sarah

Sarah 28 you are definitely onto something! When I was in the hospital for my worst flare, I ended up with Sepsis from an infiltrated IV. As a result, I had a midline placed and infused cefazolin (antibiotic) into myself 3x a day for about a month. It improved my UC as well as the Sepsis and I couldn’t ignore that. But antibiotics don’t discriminate and kill good and bad bacteria both, and then when you’re off of it the bad bacteria can rebound and it sometimes does. It did for me. It’s expensive, but there’s a powder product called Visbiome that’s a probiotic that’s been helping me along with eating healthy. It just takes longer to work than an antibiotic is all. This is referred to as VSL3 in academic studies/ scientific journals, but the name had to change because of a lawsuit (the trademark on VSL3 was up and the developer’s partners marketed an inferior product under the same name). I’m happy Cipro helped you. There’s a lot of research that backs antibiotics / probiotics improving IBD / IBS symptoms.

@@amandaklingberg7570 Hi Amanda, I'm so happy to hear you found things that work well for you. Now if only the price of all pharmaceuticals went down so all folks could afford everything they need, right. :) :) (My inhaler used to be $180 per month, so sad...) I agree, antibiotics aren't ideal and we all need probiotics. I just meant before that in my case a campylobacter infection actually gave me the exact same symptoms as listed for the crohns/IBS/ulcerative colitis disease group. I had misdiagnosed myself. Wish I didn't. So in my case after I took Cipro and then my gut healed up (took a few months) I was pretty much better. Just not sure if there are a number of other folks out there who think it's IBS/ UC when in fact its campylobacter? Just wanted to throw my experience out there in case it could help anyone else reading this. My doctor did say most antibiotics have a temporary "anti inflammatory effect" which was interesting. I did hear that the deadly nightshade family of veggies is notorious for causing inflammation. So tomatoes and eggplant for example may not be our friend if we have chronic inflammation. I do think the healing and antioxidant power of veggies is very real. I've heard so many stories of people drinking a lot of juice and curing their cancer. I appreciate Christine's help. :) :) Have a good day!

@@amandaklingberg7570 Hi Amanda, well I saw a gastroenterologist who put me on the cipro as a precaution and she said since it worked so well on me and I was pretty much cured that I must have had a campylobacter infection because that's what it kills. I don’t understand why so many people are complaining about her new diet. She’s taking care of her body and ensuring that she gets all her necessary nutrients that a human body needs. Most of us don’t get half the nutrients we need in a day especially with all the processed crap people consume. Just because she was a healthy eater before doesn’t mean she was consuming all necessary nutrients. She even said she never really ate many greens and dark leafy greens are packed with so many nutrients they are so important to have in a diet everyday. People don’t understand how important it is to keep your body properly nourished. I personally believe everyone should be eating this way and it certainly doesn’t mean she has orthrexia.

thanks I will try that as I have been considering getting a juicer, but I want a good one that will yield as much juice as possible... I used a cheap one my brother has for a while when I was caring for my dad and it seems like it wasn't juicing as much as it could... and I felt like there was a lot of money and time down the drain in terms of what I was spending on the fruits and veg... and I would re run some of the chunks from the pulp... just took a lot of time... celery juice is one thing I wanted to add to my daily diet, so if I can do it without a juicer machine, I may not get one at all, or not worry about getting one any time soon and I can get a juice from a juice restaurant a couple times a week as my convenience food and running around snacks

Totally. I was like what the heck--she already ate so well. But I've been watching for a few years and noticed Christine has a tendency to get obsessive about things. When an interest is sparked, she does the most. eg. most recently--plants. Learns everything about. Gets all-consumed. I think she even mentioned this about herself in one of her sit down, answer question videos. I think she knows it's not healthy, and I hope she eases up. I'm all for eating well, educating one's self on eating the right phytonutrients to beat disease, but all within reason. The tracking and all that b.s. is not a normal, enjoyable, sustainable way of life. Who wants to live like this? I sure don't. Did mother nature create us so we can input our daily food rations into a computer application? I think not. This is not fun at all, and who has the time for this?! I thinks she needs to relax. I hate to talk about a person like this in the comments, and I usually never post as I noticed too she rarely replies to comments or questions, but after viewing this crazy video, I had to leave my two cents and respond to other posters who were thinking the same thing. Take care of yourself, Christine, but enjoy yourself. We were not meant to be on this earth to obsessively track our micros and macros. Have enjoyed watching your videos otherwise. you were so much more laidback in Hawaii.

Don't let people who don't understand put down or criticize your diet. If you come from the perspective of eating a western style diet, you'd think eating this way looks crazy. Please be careful Christine, this Sounds like orhorexia to me. What is Orthorexia An individual can become all-consumed with what to eat, how much to eat, what is in the food, and the lifestyle of “pure” eating. Orthorexia is about rigidity and the ‘right’ way of eating. Stages of Orthorexia Orthorexia develops in two stages. The first stage is when a person develops a thought and belief system around healthy eating. Often the belief system revolves around clean eating, paleo, vegan, raw foods, and “elimination” diets [2]. Some of these may be unsafe or medically unstable and lead to malnutrition. More popular diets that may be associated with orthorexia can be followed safely, but regardless of the diet, all are restrictive in nature and can lead to orthorexia or an eating disorder. The second stage is when the person begins to obsess about the foods. Like most diets, they can lead to the restriction of foods and food categories. The person becomes obsessed with food, preparing food, and planning the most perfect and pure meals. .Self-Assessment of Orthorexia Do you wish that occasionally you could just eat and not worry about food quality? Do you ever wish you could spend less time on food and more time living and loving? Does it seem beyond your ability to eat a meal prepared with love by someone else - one single meal - and not try to control what is served? Are you constantly looking for ways foods are unhealthy for you? Do love, joy, play, and creativity take a back seat to following the perfect diet? Do you feel guilt or self-loathing when you stray from your diet? Do you feel in control when you stick to the “correct” diet? Have you put yourself on a nutritional pedestal and wonder how others can possibly eat the foods they eat?

Barbara B No what is wrong is when everybody in America is overweight or obese. Eating processed foods will give you disease. Tracking what she eats means that she’s very diligent and careful and there’s nothing wrong with that. Making sure she eats the right foods means that she’s careful. Everybody’s drugged up from eating this crap food America only pushes. Frankly I’m sick of seeing fat people and 90% chemical eaten food. If you want to put her in the corner for being different and waking up and not following what everyone else is doing in the fat group go ahead. How dare you judge her. Stop being jealous of her achievements. You could use a salad as well and you know that’s true.

I think being a vegan is promoting animal cruelty. Do You know how? To grow some vegetables in a farm the farmer has to kill all the animals or snakes or birds and insects and flies trying to eat that veggies.insects, worms, snakes, rodents, rabbits, and just about any other animal that lives in holes in the ground are killed in the process of conventional grain farming. More fertilisers : more kills .More vegans : more animal cruelty.

Life is about wholeness not perfection, your diet was already super healthy compared to a normal american diet. Of course it's best to eat less sugar and more greens, but a vegan pizza once in a while is NOT a problem at all. Plus, having a "clean" diet will NOT assure a life free of diabetes or cancer, I know some people who were living a clean diet and died of cancer, like my mom who had a great diet and never smoked in her life and died of a lung cancer...life is impredictable, it is about having harmony in ones life and not obssessing about having a diet free of everything.

people take brazil nuts like vitamins or medicine... I know people who are on about 10 meds a day from the pharma companies and they spend a couple times a day using pill cutters to get the right amounts, maybe we should be concerned about them? ... brazil nuts are one of the most expensive nuts on the market, and one brazil nut gives you like 3 times as much selenium as you need (maybe not that much, but it's a lot)... so I don't think it is obsessive, especially for those who complain that eating healthy is expensive... well, if you ate 1 brazil nut a day, it could cost something like $12 or $15 bucks for the month... not a ridiculous amount of money to spend in the scheme of things... but, if you cut them in half, and find other ways to cut back... that can really add up to signifigant savings for those who eat all highly nourishing plant foods

If you’re already eating as healthy as she is, and getting sufficient exercise, a lot of the diseases are just genetic. Also, anti-aging tip is if you are too skinny, your face looses its plumpness and you look more wrinkly and older. A little fat on your body is good!!

Would you call the author of a health book "obsessive" while they're researching their content? It's been neat following Christine's health journey over the years... And I've definitely learned a lot from her channel. I so appreciate her.... Christine, I know you're healthy enough to just allow other's criticism, judgment (charading as concern) to have no impact on you. ❤

Indi Gill Actually it’s a real phenomenon. I say phenomenon because the DSM-V, aka the master diagnostic book of psychiatry, doesn’t recognize yet as a disease. But there’s a lot of talk about putting it into the next version. It’s not bs, there’s actual research around it. It just isn’t recognized yet

@@ashleynl6731 Hi Ashley NL. I respect your opinion. I'm very familiar with the DSM-5. And I'm not a big fan of it. There are world renowned psychiatric professionals that feel that the current western means for evaluating and diagnosing "psychiatric issues" are extremely outdated and ineffective (e.g., Dr. George K. Simon...[author of "In Sheep's Clothing: Understanding and Dealing with Manipulative People"] describes in several of his books/KZfaq Interviews that the Freudian model in which much of our psychiatric education is still based on was derived from isolated and obscure theories. Dr. Gabor Mate' [author of "In the realm of hungry ghosts"] frequently states in his interviews that classically trained psychiatric professionals are ill equipped for understanding root causes of behaviors. Orthorexia is not a phenomenon. The term orthorexia refers to a "thought process" regarding a 'healthy diet' (unobservable)...the observable behaviors that COULD derive from such thoughts are currently categorized under eating/obsessive/compulsive disorders. I'm calling"Orthorexia" bullsh!+ for a couple of reasons: If someone is actually suffering (i.e., experiencing real/perceived negative consequences due to an eating or obsessive disorder) than the root cause is not in the "thought process regarding a "healthy diet"-- the root cause is somewhere in the CREATION of one's body image, obsessive habits, etc...
@indigill4417

@@ashleynl6731 Another reason I have a problem with the term orthorexia is in the so called "Warning Signs and Symptoms" listed by the National Eating Disorders Association: 1. "Compulsive checking of ingredient lists and nutritional labels" ....[The key term in their "symptom" is 'Compulsive'. If you're doing anything compulsively, you MAY have a COMPULSIVE disorder. And I haven't met a nutritionist or "health expert" that didn't emphasize the importance of always checking food labels]. 2. "An increase in concern about the health of ingredients" .... [I question the person that doesn't have this concern. We are being bombarded with information about our tainted food supply (GMOs), the rise of ailments (like autism, diabetes, heart disease) & their links to food, and we're being told that due to our obesity epidemic-- children today may have shorter life spans than their parents. I can formulate similar arguments to all the rest of their so-called symptoms! Christine is a KZfaq Content Creator....she makes money from the content that is viewed on her KZfaq channel. (This is essentially a job for her). And viewers like me prefer to see well thought out, researched, and analyzed content.

LOVE your food videos and I've learned a ton over the years! My daughter is vegetarian so this helps me bulk up her diet with more nutrients. My only advice in return? Just keep in mind that genetics is always in play.... some health concerns can't always be avoided if a genetic disposition is there. We just do our best to live a healthy life and treat problems if needed. You could go to a walk-in lab and have a full baseline drawn, including cholesterol panel and A1c. And that Brazil nut? Eat the entire thing if you feel like it! 😎 I ain't about to leave a delicious Brazil nut half eaten! Your healthy eating is inspirational, but don't let it go somewhere unhealthy. Bon appetit!

Hi Christine, I'm on the FODMaP diet because of my pds. Maybe it is interesting to take a look at that diet because there are a lot of healthy food like vegetables and fruits that I am not allowed to eat. It works differently for everyone and you have to test for each product whether you are intolerant of it. I am convinced that I absolutely cannot tolerate avocado and that many vegetables have to be well cooked otherwise I will get constipation. For this diet I go to the dietician for help. Greetings from The Netherlands!

@OfftoShambala 5 жыл бұрын
yes, that is why I never got into flaxseed, they are great, no doubt about it... but you need to keep them whole and grind them as you need them and oils, in general, actually go rancid very quickly and should be kept in the fridge in the dark... I have stopped consuming them almost entirely... but, when I was consuming them or if I make something that requires oil, I am acutely aware of rancidity I never got into flaxseed because I just did not want to deal wiht that... I have a lazy approach.. or if I am going to deal with something that has some time consuming process, it will be something other than managing and grinding flaxseeds... like making tabouli... it's time consuming, but oh so worth it.

Than-q for this excellent and informative video. I appreciate your authentic, candid discussion about your history with your health and what you have done and are doing now in an attempt to heal the damage created over time. Having read through some of the comments I can only think that some either did not watch the entire video, did not listen to what you said in it or did not comprehend all you said. Far too many took from it that you have become “obsessive”, possibly to the point of orthorexia, with many stating you had already been eating healthy enough and had no need to change your diet at all. I cringed as I read given that we see momentary glimpses of your life, yet people assume they know you and your habits and make judgements about your mental health and wellbeing. They completely passed over all you discussed regarding working towards healing the damage a year of powerful antibiotics did to your body. They seemingly failed to understand that you are doing a challenge and a “study” so are tracking and documenting all you are taking in. I have had an intestinal bacterial infection over 100 times, for which I have had to take very strong antibiotics. The older I get, the more brutal the effects of the antibiotics, far more painful and difficult to deal with and recover from than the infection itself. I have complete empathy, as both an RN and a long-term patient, for how you may be feeling and what you are attempting to overcome and achieve this year. We each have our own set of priorities for which we will make certain changes and/or sacrifices in order to attain our goals. Some strive for beauty beyond all else, some health, whether physical, mental, spiritual or all, some fitness, some a balance of some or all of the aforementioned. It is for each of us to determine for ourselves what is lacking or needs improvement in our own lives, if anything, and then devise a strategy to change or overcome whatever that is. It is not for anyone to sit in judgment of anyone else or how they are living out their journey to be the very best, most vibrant and healthy version of themselves. I appreciate your viewers being concerned for your wellbeing. Many have expressed concern about your tracking your food intake as that has led some into orthorexia in the past. Eating high raw can pose some challenges. One must take care to get in enough calories and nutrients. It is easy to eat in abundance but still miss your mark on both by a wide margin if you are not careful, given how incredibly low calorie many vegetables and fruits are. As you avoid grains due to sensitivities you have to find other sources for calories where you would traditionally use a grain. I presume you are aware of all I am saying. I am clarifying it more for any viewers who may have been confused or concerned as to why you would need to track your intake. Once again, you are doing this as a scientific “challenge” or “study” and using yourself as a guinea pig. The only way to do that efficiently is to document everything. That way, any results, positive or negative, can be linked back to food you ate on a particular day at a particular time. Many thought you extreme for cutting your Brazil nut in half. When you are only eating a set amount of fat throughout the day then every gram does indeed count. When you are eating for nutrition and half a nut gives you all of a certain nutrient you need for the day, there is no reason to eat the whole nut. You are always a source of valuable information in your videos, whether about nutrition, recipes, plants, “clean” cleaning products...the list goes on. I so appreciate you taking the time to do the extensive research you do in order to be able to present it to us. You are a gift, an extraordinary light shining brightly in this current world of social and mainstream media promoting fitness and “diet” advice based on quick fixes, powders and bars or things like young people experimenting with their health, with little to no science behind what they are doing, with impressionable people following them, believing they know what they are doing based on what they look like on the outside. You are a model of living this lifestyle rather than a diet. You focus on overall health combined with fitness, living in a balanced, healthy way without extremes of any kind. Having walked a few miles in your shoes, I truly hope you find the healing you are seeking. I know how frustrating it can be when you are eating clean, exercising and taking the best care of your body you can but still there is something wrong that you struggle to find the means to correct. May this year bring you the answers you seek. Keep doing all you are doing. You are changing lives! I am grateful for your gentle ways. You are a joy to share my time with! With peace, gratitude, grace and healing light! XOXO

Adding...People whom are making judgmental comments about Christine being obsessed about her diet, must not have taken care of people whom are Morbid Obese, which leads to diabetes mellitus, kidney, and liver toxicity, Hypertension, congestive heart failure, which can cause diabetic and chf coma’s due to not controlling your diet intake, weeping edema on bilateral legs and arms, pain from eating too much dairy, starch in the intestines, IBS, twisting of the colon from dairy/allergies, pain in your joints, etc. In order, to eat healthy and help improve your health you have to focus on planning your meals, making and eating them. Taking a probiotic helps the intestines when taking antibiotic’s. There are studies that have shown cutting out meat and food with preservatives have shown more effective in fighting cancer. Cancer cells thrive on fat in the body and if, anyone disagrees without research and knowledge, do your research. Talk to a Hemotologist Blood/Cancer Doctor and they will tell you that severely cutting out fat from your diet will decrease Cancer cells thriving/growing in the blood stream from fat/lipids. You are only seeing clips of Christine making her meals to share and educate other’s wanting to change their eating habits. You are not seeing her full day. There are not that many healthy restaurants that vegan or people wanting to include more healthy meals can just drive through or order from. Healthier diets have to be planned and cooked prior to eating. AND no I am not a vegan, but I do try to include smoothies and vegan wraps in my diet. Turmeric is also, a great supplement to aid with inflammatory pain. I am Wishing everyone Well in life, stay healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually. Pay a kind deed forward.

Yes, a lot of poeple have no idea how horrible things can turn out... I am like you and have had to take care of people going through horrible health problems and I myself have some that I've developed and I KNOW, had I changed my diet even just 5 years ago... I could have avoided what I am going through now... people, you do NOT want what is coming down the road because you think it is somehow going to shorten your life or interfere with the quality of your life... NOT concerning yourself with health is way more likely to lead to a shorter and low quality life. I have seen it in ALL my family members... the few who "obsess" over their health are thriving.

Although I'm not vegan, I'm willing to try a plant based diet to see if their will be any changes in my body. I do have blood work done, twice a year. so I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all your hard work, in educating yourself and others about healthy living alternatives. Keep up the good work. Tomorrow will be day one for me.... So I wish many blessings and peace to you both.
