This is a very healthy and incredibly delicious lentil rice porridge (Patla Khichuri). We usually have this for dinner/iftar /sahri.
Super Delicious Lentil Rice:
Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes.
Cooking Time: 30 minutes (approx.).
Serving: 4-6 people.
Ingredients:
1. Rice 1.5 cups.
2. Moong dal (yellow gram beans) ½ cup.
3. Masoor dal (red lentil). ½ cup.
4. Any meat 200g (approx.).
5. Roughly cut onion 1 cup.
6. Garlic cloves 9-10 pcs.
7. Coriander powder 3+1 tsp.
8. Cumin powder 3 tsp.
9. Turmeric powder 1.5 +1 tsp.
10. Ginger paste 1 Tbsp +1 tsp.
11. Garam masala 2 +1 tsp.
12. Bay leaves 2-3 pcs.
13. Salt 2 tsp +1 Tbsp.
14. Tomato cubes 1 cup.
15. Oil ¼ cup.
16. Some green chilies
17. Any veggies (cubed) 1-2 cups.
For Tempering:
18. 2 cloves of garlic sliced.
19. Thinly sliced onion ½ cup.
20. Oil 1-2 Tbsp.
Procedure:
21. Dry roast the moong dal on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
22. Add any aromatic raw rice (short grain) and red lentil with moong dal and wash nicely. Soak for 30 minutes.
23. Heat ¼ cup of oil in a large pan. Add 2-3 bay leaves. Add the onion and garlic cloves. Fry for 1-2 min.
24. Add the meat and ginger paste. Stir nicely. Gradually add the dry spices and tomato. Lid on and cook for 8-10 min on medium heat.
25. Drain the water of the soaked lentil rice and add to the meat. Add extra spices and fry for 3-4 minutes.
26. Add 5 cups of boiling water. Stir nicely cover and cook on medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes.
27. If you like to add any veggies fry them in 1 -2 Tbsp oil (approx. 90% cooked).
28. Add to the “khichuri”, porridge. Add 2.5 cups of boiling water. Cook for 5-6 minutes.
29. Add garam masala and some green chilies. Turn off the heat. Cover and rest for 5 minutes.
30. Serve the “khichuri”, porridge with any pickle or salad you like. We enjoyed it with “egg bhuna” and tomato cucumber salad.
