I’ve long felt that fasting was revitalizing for the brain and body, but this gives me a whole new perspective. It does make perfect sense, but until now I associated the realization process (the waking up to reality) as a result of discomfort in general. For me these things have been: cold water, fasting, boredom, etc. I’d like an actual study done on this to see if there’s an actual link between neuroplasticity and fasting, or if it’s just as a form of discomfort.

I can see how for certain groups of people, health at every size and fat acceptance has been used as a way to deny and ignore the negative health implications associated with long term obesity (emphasis on long term because in the short term you can be obese and have no issues related to it). And I have seen evidence of some toxicity in these spaces (like all internet spaces) where you are shamed for even wanting to lose weight because that apparently makwa you anti-fat acceptance. But this is a loud minority and for the most part, body positivity, fat acceptance, health at every size - at their core they are about showing people that health is about daily good decisions and self-care (which often requires the privilege of time, financial resources, and good mental health that not everyone has) not about what you look like. And that your value is not determined by your size or appearance. And whether or not you try to lose weight or stay the same is a personal choice that others shouldn't have a say in.

The medical community is so often dismissive of psychology as a science and as a practice. And while there is bad psychology out there, there is also a lot of good psychology that is just blatantly ignored by the medical profession. And this includes the well-established principle that if you want someone to change their health behaviours then shame is going to get you nowhere. That's why motivational interviewing is so effective in an addiction setting. You have to find the patient/ client's motivations and evoke change talk FROM THE CLIENT. If you tell someone what they should be doing or how they should feel they are not going to be receptive they are only going to feel defensive and frustrated and are not going to listen to anything else you say. And you absolutely should not assume that any and all health complaints are just due to obesity.

Yes, starvation is a concern that your brain signals, so you eat. But in no way does it "rewire your brain". What I think you're trying to talk about is natural selection, and it's something that happens to every creature, even programmed ones. If a creature doesn't reproduce due to death or isolation, then it's considered a failure, cause that gene doesn't get passed on. A success is the opposite, a gene gets successfully passed on. How this works and how it manages to evolve and change a creature is through mutations. Miniature changes in the DNA, if the change is a success, the DNA gets passed on, then changes again later on. This process is in no way instant. It took millions of years for fish to even start walking on land, little known laying eggs on land. "Natural selection"
