In conclusion, it seems to me that the "Dancing in the dark" Bruce Springsteen refers to is an analogy for is an analogy for 🍩🍆
The 80's is my JAM!
in this video, I'm sharing my first-time reaction to Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark," featuring Courtney Cox. As a music lover, I'm always excited to discover new tunes, and as a fan of Springsteen's hits like "Born in the USA" and "Born to Run," I couldn't wait to give this classic song a listen.
Throughout the video, I'll be sharing my honest thoughts on the song, including the lyrics, instrumentation, and overall vibe. I'll also be talking about the significance of "Dancing in the Dark" in Springsteen's discography and how it compares to other iconic hits like "Born in the USA" and "Born to Run."
Plus, we can't forget about Courtney Cox's unforgettable appearance in the music video! I'll be discussing how her role helped elevate the song's popularity and why it's still an iconic moment in music history.
So, whether you're a die-hard Springsteen fan or just love discovering new music, be sure to check out this video. And don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to my channel for more reactions and reviews of some of the greatest hits of all time! Thanks for watching.

Wanted to come here and say the same thing. If Dianne wants to get the most accurate impression of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Born to Run is the video to watch. The sheer energy from the band, their joy, and the festival sized crowds all add to the song’s essence. Also, Bruce is definitively not a “POP” performer and I say that proudly. The lyrics to too many songs like Atlantic City, the River and the Streets of Philadelphia give him a lifetime exemption. His hit-making peaked in the 1980s, but a Bruce tour will still sell out stadiums in 15 minutes.

I saw him in March of 2023. It was sold out at a big venue & his fans frequently sang along with him. Several times he would stop singing & he let his fans sing a bit of the song. This was the fourth time I have him in concert. This video came out in 1984 as part of his “Born in the USA” tour. This music video was considered so I iconic that for several years he would pull a woman to dance with him. This was the first step for Courtney Cox in her success career. Springsteen once sold a full concert DVD in London’s Hyde Part. Very enthusiastic audience. Worth noting The “Boss” concerts usually last about 2 hours & 45 minutes without any intermission & he is 73 years old.

As a lifelong resident of New Jersey I, as well as millions of other Jerseyans, are proud of Bruce as well as the many other talented musicians who hail from our great state. That being said, may I recommend a deeper dive into his music including cuts such as "Backstreets", "Thunder Road", "She's the One", and more from his earlier work along with his more popular hits such as "Jungleland", "Born to Run" and "Born in the USA" which, for decades now, he has refused to allow to be used by campaigning politicians and corporate advertisements. I am brand-new to the Comments section as I always watch your excellent content on my streaming service but I promise to give more feedback on your journeys of discovery. Your insatiable curiosity about all things popular is quite refreshing in an internet world filled with those who believe they already know all of the answers without bothering to ask the pertinent questions. Dancin' in the Dark is the most "pop" song Bruce ever did, and he did it well. The "Blue Collar Poet" moniker is what fits him best. Once, I was sitting at a neighborhood bar in Lake Oswego, Oregon, when someone sat on the barstool next to me, ordered a drink and asked the bartender about the band playing that night. It was a well-known local band that did two nights a week at this place. The guy then asked if he thought the band would let him sit in for a little. "I'm visiting my in-laws up the road, and I just wanted to get out for a bit." I turned my head and saw that it was BRUCE DAMN SPRINGSTEEN! THE BOSS! The bartender kept his cool, and said that he couldn't speak for the band, but he called Curtis, the front-man over to introduce himself. The Boss played for nearly three hours with this local band filling on a Thursday night. It was epically cool!

Diane this is a very poppy version of a Bruce song and not typical of his music. He is considered the poet laureate of my generation much in the same way Bob Dylan was in the sixties. Bruce definitely has a beautiful use of the English language which was not really represented in this song. Try listening to songs like Thunder Road, Jungle land or his most famous song Born to Run to get a sense of the beauty in his lyrics.💚

Yep, Courtney Cox before she was super-famous. I imagine the fantasy of being selected from the audience by Bruce Springsteen appealed to a lot of girls and young women. Born in the U.S.A. is one of Springsteen's socially-conscious songs, and one of the most misinterpreted by people who don't listen closely to the lyrics. So far you haven't done any repeats of performers in these reaction videos, but if you ever do, that would be a good one. Bruce Springsteen is one of many great musicians and performers to come from New Jersey. Others include Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Frankie Valli, Sarah Vaughan, Jon Bon Jovi, Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan), Paul Simon, Debbie Harry (of the band Blondie), Patti Smith, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah, Dionne Warwick, and Kevin Jonas. Of these, I'd most like for you to react to Paul Simon, Blondie, and Steely Dan. Thanks!

You've never heard Born to Run, Born in the USA even by accident on the radio? The odds of that are mind boggling if you're American unless you're under 35, and even then its hard to believe.

The sax isn't random. That's Clarence Clemens (The Big Man), who was with Springsteen from the beginning. His sax solos are legendary!! That's why you have to check out Springsteen's earlier music. The E Street Band (Springsteen's band) were all extremely accomplished musicians, who in addition to playing with Springsteen, al did session work for the biggest names in music throughout the '70's, 80's,, & 90's. Additionally, Bruce Springsteen is one of the GREATEST songwriters in American history. In addition to his own 50-year career as a performing artist, he wrote top-40 hits for Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Patty Smith, Manfred Mann, Gary U.S. Bonds, Southside Johnny, and many others.

This concert is after Springsteen (or as my rabid fan friend would say Bruuuuuuuuce!) made enough money and was popular enough to afford a trainer. When he started out he was relatively skinny, and def not a "heartthrob". But this was one of his most popular songs along with the non-patriotic, but misinterpreted as such, "Born In The USA". Fun fact: there was a push on in New Jersey to name "Born To Run" as the state anthem. It's another song you could react to! 😀

Diane, Frank Sinatra was known as The Chairman of the Board. Elvis Presley was known as The King (really should have been Chuck Berry), so when Bruce exploded onto the music scene (he was on the covers of both Time and Newsweek magazines in 1975 the same week), he became known as The Boss.

I was at the tour-opening show in St. Paul in June 1984 at which this was recorded. He played it twice and the cameramamn was being moved around on stage by the Director Brian De Palma. Bruce apologized before the second time saying "we're making a video up here". Some parts of the final video were shot the previous day and they grabbed people out of a Rush tickt line-up to appaear in the background. I spoke with Courtney 6 minutes after the end and she was still shaking... she was being squired through the crowd by Obie Dziedzic on of Bruce's longtime friends and fans. My friend spoke to Obie and I spoke with Courtney... A magic night for many reasons.

Hi Diane! He has done some really good stuff over the years. The first I ever heard of his music were by Manfred Man. He was practically unheard of outside of New Jersey until Manfred Mann covered a few of Bruce's songs. He also did a great collaboration "Because the Night" with Pattie Smith. " The River" is probably my favorite album. Keep Chewie sàfe and healthy and happy, have a good night, I love you and goodbye for now!

The song writer wrote it as a literal thing. He was trying to write the song but had no ideas so he just started writing down what he was going though. Pacing, looking in the mirror, turning on the radio, everything. Apparently he even asked his wife for some inspiration. The "This gun's for hire" was his job as a song writer.

He will be in Dublin for three shows here soon, May 5, 7 and 9, so you should go see him if there are still tickets available. He is there with the E-Street Band, so most of the backing band you see in this video will be there too. Notably, sax player Clarence Clemons and organ player Danny Federeici have both passed away, but Clarence's nephew Jake has taken his uncle's spot in the band. He still pulls women from the stands to dance on stage with him when they do this song. He has an amazing catalog of songs. This one, 'Born to Run', and 'Born in the U.S.A.' are probably his most well known overall. But check out 'Thunder Road', 'The River', 'Promised Land', and 'Backstreets' just to name a few others. The story behind 'Dancing in the Dark' is it was written out of anger and frustration. His manager wanted a pop hit, and Springsteen felt compelled to write this, so the lyrics are really all about his insecurity and frustration about being up all night trying to write a hit. One other last fun bit of trivia: According to Alfonso Ribeiro, Springsteen's dancing in the video served as the inspiration for 'The Carleton' dance.
