Some trivia: - The songs are ordered alphabetically because the band weren't sure how to order them. It worked out great. - If you reverse the ending of Daydreaming and pitch it up an octave, you'll hear Thom saying what sounds like "half of my life" or "half of my love". This refers to both his tenure with Radiohead as well as his relationship with Rachel Owen, who he met in 1993. The two separated amicably in 2015; Owen later passed away due to cancer in 2016. - True Love Waits was worked on for years going back to the OK Computer sessions; an electronic version served as the basis for Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors on Amnesiac. The studio version is very much by Thom and Rachel's separation. - The album cover (done by the same artist as all the band's work) got its distinctive look by being left outside for a couple days.

This is my personal favorite Radiohead album and one of my favorite albums of all time. I haven’t found something that replicates this album. I still remember hearing ful stop for the first time. Never has a song like fully replicated the feeling of anxiety for me and it was almost euphoric. The orchestration on every song is phenomenal and the stripped back piano on glass eyes, day dreaming, and true love waits is so unique. Thanks for reacting. I hope others agree with my sentiment

Man I totally understand. A Moon Shaped Pool is my favorite album of all time not because I think every song is perfect but because in the state it puts me in. A Moon Shaped Pool is an orchestral masterpiece. This is the most Cinematic Radiohead album, followed by Kid A. The ending was heartbreaking, True Love Waits always had me in tears. Also, this might be Radiohead last album 😢 Radiohead went hiatus and the members had side projects. 4:43 "If you float you burn" is a reference to a famous scene from the Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where they tested alleged witch by comparing her weight with the weight of a duck which floats. It's worth to see (and react to) that iconic movie. 8:02 the song and the music video has many references to the Radiohead discography and history. It's a nod to Radiohead fans. If you read the lyrics it's becomes clear that this is a song dedicated to Radiohead fans. 12:47 one of the themes that is used in this album is Thom's breakup with his gilrfriend. He uses the references to Douglas Adams book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" in this song to describe the state when your whole world gets destroyed and you can do nothing about that. It's not the first time when he references this book, a lot of references can be found in OK Computer. 20:26 one of the themes used in this album is a climate change. "Truth will mess you up" is about people who can't comprehend how bad is our environmental footprint. 30:13 Probably the most straightforward and less cryptic Radiohead song, talking about how the numbers (money, big corporations, politicians) destroy our world and that we have to do something about it. 37:11 you're not far from the truth. Jonny Greenwood, Radiohead guitarist, who did the most job in arranging this album, also composed soundtracks to numerous movies, notably There Will Be Blood
@hehehehaw-fd9xf
@hehehehaw-fd9xf 15 күн бұрын
"If you float you burn" isn't a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. In ancient times, even before medieval eras, some people were determined to be witches based on whether they would float if they were thrown into a river after being accused of witchcraft. If they were to float or swim, they were considered witches and killed. If they were to sink, they just died. So it was a weird lose/lose situation. Dumb, I know.

I've binged your Radiohead journey in about a day and here I am, really enjoyed it! I got into them based on their first 3 albums when Kid A was new and it took me ~6 months to wrap my head around Kid A back in 2000 but then I loved it. Every album of theirs took me at least a couple months to get into except from the first listen everything on AMSP felt like it had always belonged, I immediately could not imagine Radiohead without this album. They're so amazing live I hope you get to some of their live stuff even if not on YT, From The Basement is always top tier, they also had a live EP in 2001. They even have a few albums' worth of quality B-sides sprinkled across a quarter century of EPs and singles.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet. But since both of you kept saying how this sounded like a soundtrack from a movie, they actually stopped production on this album to create a theme for one of the James Bond movies called spectre that unfortunately didn't get chosen. It is, in my opinion, one of the best Radiohead songs ever and my favourite song of all time.

Someone recommended Giles Cory's self titled. It's made by one of the guys who made Deathconsciousness, so it'd be worth reacting to after that one. I've also seen some people recommending Soundtracks For The Blind by Swans. It's an amazing album but it's very long (2 hrs and 21 mins), and extremely out-there. If you want to get familiar with 2+ hours albums before that one, then Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins would be the perfect place to start. It's the follow up to Siamese Dream, and it's a worthy one at that. It's just as good as Soundtracks but much more accessible.

to my guy deck right (my screen left - blue shorts), i think maybe the word you're looking for regarding some of the music is "warm." i get a comforting feeling from the music despite the underlying subject matter not being "happy." there is also a warmth in Thom's vocals even though there is sadness underneath. the cure does something similar in some songs, playing what sounds like happy, joyful music while the underlying message/lyrics are melancholic.

It’s like they a channeling Kate bush, Nick Drake and Glen Cambell on this album…it’s still Radiohead. We are blessed to have them.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A REACTION TO NONAGON INFINITY - KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD, it's a concept album with the idea that it is an endless concert, the whole album loops and each song transitions seamlessly, the album is rush and the band themselves are crazy

An underrated album for sure. I think initial fan reviews were harsh because they were expecting the usual layers and song evolutions, but what they gave us was droney krautrock style electronic jams. I wasn't big on it but after returning to it now I think it's pretty darned great and a nice departure from their usual emotionally challenging music. It's probably their most "accessible" just for the mere fact it's not so depressing or abrasive and more just an ambient mood setter. Accessible is the wrong word... I just mean you could put it on in the background during a dinner party or something and it wouldn't grab too much attention or freak anyone out. Can't really say the same for many other albums by them - those albums I prefer to listen to with 100% attention. Definitely some gems on there and the last 2 tracks are gold. I think if it wasn't a Radiohead album and instead some underground electronic band, then hipsters would give it an 8/10 or more. It's certainly up there with anything Animal Collective did (fairly similar actually) and hipsters love their albums.
