King of Limbs chronologically. Not their best sounding album at first listening or even 2nd or 3rd time....but it WILL grow on you after a while. Its relys heavily on rhythmic beats and quiet moments. Compared to other albums, its a more "flat" sounding album. Try to concentrate on the ryhtm ( i think they're addictive once you get used to it 😂 ) and you're gonna feel like moving around. For a more organic and fuller sound, listen to the King of Limbs Basement session. Its much better than the album version imo. Much love. Looking forward to the In Rainbows premiere ✌️

King of Limbs, underrated content but for me just two tracks short of greatness. With only 8 tracks it feels lacking a little substance in comparison with other albums. The Daily Mail & Staircase would have fitted well and fleshed it out. Highly recommend the In Rainbows & King Of Limbs from the Basemet sessions, especially KOL, better live.

Some trivia: - According to Thom Yorke, the lyrics were based on "that anonymous fear thing, sitting in traffic, thinking, 'I'm sure I'm supposed to be doing something else' ... It's similar to OK Computer in a way. It's much more terrifying." - Unlike Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows is not an angry or political album. It's about mortality and the fact any of us can die at any given moment. - My theory for 15 Step is that the title is a reference to the plant Antiaris toxicaria, the poison of which is so deadly a victim can only take seven steps uphill and eight downhill before dying. What's 7+8? 15 Steps. - The band recorded the cheers of music school students for 15 Step. They wanted the kids to clap but the unconventional 5/4 time signature was too hard for the students to follow. - Bodysnatchers utilizes a technique known as "modal mixture", where notes and chords from different modes (sets of notes) that share the same root are used. The verses are in D Mixolydian (the Major scale with a flattened seventh), while the bridge is in D minor. - Nude was worked on for around a decade, starting during the OK Computer sessions. It was originally called "Big Ideas" by fans, as it was unnamed for many years. The final version was built atop the bassline written by Colin Greenwood. The intro is the outro reversed. - Weird Fishes / Arpeggi was originally just called "Arpeggi" due to the arpeggiated guitar line that can be heard through the song (clever bastards). - On All I Need, the chaotic noise wall, imitating the white noise created by a band playing loudly in a room (which would be impossible in a studio), was achieved by having a string section play every note in the scale, blanketing the frequencies. - In Reckoner, background vocals can be heard at 2:49 singing "In Rainbows", which happens to be 61.8% of the runtime; the golden ratio. The line "because we separate like ripples on a blank shore" is the center of the album; everything leads up to and away from it, much as waves on a beach do. - On House of Cards, Jonny used a coin as a guitar pick to imitate the sound of a string instrument. - Jigsaw Falling Into Place was inspired by the chaos inspired Thom saw when he used to go out on the weekend in Oxford. - Videotape is tricking you; the true downbeat is syncopated. The piano is playing half a beat before the downbeat. Listen to the 2006 live performance where this trick is much more pronounced.

"In Rainbows - Live From the Basement"...the greatest Radiohead experience there is. It ties everything you've heard together to watch them play live, in a chill studio, the same 5 guys who've stuck together since High School, shows how they create those epic atmospheres in real time, no tricks, sounds better arguably than any of their studio stuff. Not sure if you're into the live video stuff, it seems to get through YT, and if you can't do as a reaction, then it'll be a great personal experience. Great vid, timing of the sunset was perfect. I saw the live session first and it blew my mind, and first time I had the album on CD, in my car in Key West, Florida for a wedding, just kept driving around with turquoise Caribbean water all around me and just couldn't stop playing it over and over again. A happy to Sunday to you both and to all the humans roaming around this Universe of ours. Peace/

yup, i can hear it too and often think some of Thoms phrasing is Morrissey-esque. Though music DNA is a bit like human DNA... it comes from all over. There is a shit load of Krautrock in this album too. Can / Neu etc. Radiohead weave all their influences into something pretty darned fresh though that's for sure.

I don't normally comment on KZfaq videos, but I stumbled across this reaction and the vibe you guys had on this is just perfect. A cool spring evening with the album playing as the sun goes down behind you perfectly frames the tone of the record. In Rainbows was a self released free download when it dropped in 2007 and it was kind of a revolutionary idea at the time after the age of Napster ended and made way to iTunes and $9.99 albums. I remember clear as day when it came out. It was released at 8 am in Atlantic Canada on a week day. I had to work and thought maybe I'd listen to a couple songs and then leave. But as the headphones went on I was immersed and couldn't leave. I just flat out missed the first hour of work without a care in the world.

I absolutely love watching the next generation discover Radiohead. The first time I heard this album was the summer of 2008-I was 19 years old and was having my first lsd experience…just as it was taking affect my boyfriend at the time put “15 Step” on and we listened all the way to the end of the album. It literally changed my life. This album means so much to me and almost 20 years later I still listen to it all the time.

Nude is a song they’ve been playing live since the OK Computer tour. Used to be called Big Ideas. I always found that so interesting that it took 10 years for them to feel like it was album-ready.

appreciate the Phillip Selway (drummer) appreciation, he's so perfect on every song. Reminds me of Ringo in that he plays perfectly for every song and never overdoes it

This album was the soundtrack to my last semester of college and the best period of my first relationship. I’d kinda written Radiohead off until I heard it, but I listened to it 4 times in a row nonstop after hearing it for the first time. Weird Fishes is my favorite song of all time, and though I struggle to name a true favorite album I think if I could only bring one to a desert island it would be In Rainbows. It’s the perfect reminder of how beautiful life is in both dark and light times. Really enjoyed seeing it resonate with you guys it brought me back to that time.

I was in college when this album was released. Soon after release date, my long distance boyfriend (now husband) came to visit me, talking all about this album. The whole piracy thing was a hot button issue, so Radiohead's releasing this as a pay-what-you-want was so revolutionary. Well, I could have gotten this album for free, but as a long-time Radiohead fan, I wanted to at least contribute something, so I opted to pay $5. I think I remember reading something much later that despite the business model, Radiohead did in fact make money despite giving the album away for basically for free. Another thing to mention is this was a fantastic album, & as a huge Radiohead fan, but these aren't exactly the same, some other albums I was listening to around the same time that I can highly recommend are "Friend & Foe" by Menomena and also "Silent Alarm" by Bloc Party.

I was in college too 😊 My husband and I absolutely loved this album. I paid for it too. It was actually the first album by them that forced me to see and acknowledge their greatness. Great suggestions!

Thanks for a great reaction. On further listens I think you'll really get even more into Jonny's string arrangements. He really came into his on as a composer around this time. It's amazing how he wrote one of the best scores of all time for "There Will Be Blood" in the same year as this album.

My in rainbows memory is going on a retreat with my best friend, he had just learned jigsaw falling into place the entire way through on acoustic guitar and he would not shut up playing it. I think I heard that song more in three days than the rest of my life, and it remains one of my favourite songs ever for it
