We investigate the fact that different materials can store heat with varying efficiencies. Efficient thermal energy storage means BIG specific heat. We'll investigate how to get those efficiencies later...

Heat Capacity made more sense after the pants analogy. Low capacity is like having less pockets meaning it stores less and once pockets are filled (or heat capacity is filled) then temp changes by 1 unit. High capacity is like having more pockets and only when all the pockets are full does temp change. So it takes more energy to change temp of a high capacity substance and less energy to change temp of a low capacity substance. I really understood that (if I got it right) with the visual pants analogy so thank you.

Umm, at 7:07 there's this little bit that i don't quite understand: how is the final temperature of both the liquid and the block the same? The energy is equal in both, and the C and the mass are different, how does T end up the same?
@mihajlostasuk5801
@mihajlostasuk5801 8 жыл бұрын
+Stevan Lezaja To my understanding, if two systems are in contact their T will always end up the same, as the one with greater internal energy(U) (the one with a greater mass in this case) will by collision give a bit of its energy to the other system.
@navets99
@navets99 8 жыл бұрын
i actually did the calculations, it would require for the m of the first system times the c of the first system (m1*c1) to be equal to m2*c2 in order for the T of both systems to be equal, but besides that there is no real reason for the T to be the same (unless i didn't understand what you told me very well)
