I guess it’s a good tool for people who want to keep their books looking like new. I like mine dog-eared and loved.

We need to do it here from time to time to make sure the books are.in great shape for customers. Past that, the readers can treat them however they'd like *after* they arrive, haha.

Thanks! It should work out great and mostly remove (or sometimes fully remove) minor creases, spine ticks, small bends, etc. Good luck!

Yeah! It works on all of our comics and most other "floppy" comics too. Do *not* attempt this with comics that have a thicker, cardstock type cover.

This was very helpful and cheaper then sending it off to get cleaned...along with time savings. Definitely will try it. Thanks for putting it up.

Just bought these. Hope it’ll workout going to try it out Update: it really works, but Becareful not to press too hard because the texture from the Teflon will transfer to the book. Maybe try parchment paper so it doesn’t leave a texture

The reason to put the books under a cold press (under the backer board bundle) is so that they keep the new shape as they re-absorb the local humidity from the heating/ironing.

Hi, this is great and informative, thanks. Do you think this would also work on corner creases or is it more effective on the spine? Also, could I use a larger, clothes iron on a medium setting? Thanks again.
@alternacomics
@alternacomics Жыл бұрын
It's definitely more effective for the spine, but it does help somewhat alleviate any creases in general -- as long as it's not a hard crease that has damaged the coloration of the page. And yes, you could use a large flat iron on medium setting. Just remember -- never use steam, it will warp and permanently damage the paper.

great video, thanks! do you ever humidify first using this method?
@alternacomics
@alternacomics 4 жыл бұрын
We don't recommend adding any moisture, humidification, or steam to the cover. It has the high possibility if making warping and creasing even worse with this method. If anything, we found using a dehumidifier or air conditioning in the room, tends to help yield the best results.

dumb question: will this work on the back cover too?
@alternacomics
@alternacomics 11 ай бұрын
Yes, as long as it's not cardstock, foil, etc.. It has to be a regular pliable paper stock.

What do you recommend for getting rid of sticky residue on comic book covers? I have some comics that aren't bagged and boarded and had price tags placed on the front and back covers. I removed them slowly, but it left a sticky residue, hesitant to use Goo-be-Gone. Thanks.

Alcohol wipes or small amount of rubbing alcohol usually works. Don't press hard. Rub in circular motion for a few seconds.

You think you could use this method on card stock covers as well?
@alternacomics
@alternacomics 3 жыл бұрын
No, definitely not. You can do permanent damage to a thicker cardstock covers by applying heat and pressure in this fashion.

Hi, and thanks for sharing this. Will this also work for 'warped' books? I recently bought a small collection. Some books (although overall still in good shape) look as if the previous owner rolled them (or something like this). Probably bad storage over a long time. Thanks!

It should help but it won't cure the problem entirely. With something like this, after you iron it, I recommend leaving it under at least 50 pounds of weight, evenly distributed, for about a week.

Been trying this method for a bit now and I have to say it works okay for the most part for small imperfections. However I have stopped using the backing board inside as its causing my front and back covers to become uneven with the pages in the book. The covers now appear too short as the pages extend out past the cover due to the board making the cover raise while pressing.
@malus911
@malus911 3 жыл бұрын
Try using thinner card/backing boards. They come in different thicknesses. Thicker ones for the centre and depending on the front and back covers, thinner ones so as not to have the problem you're having. Cheers.

Hi! I tried this, but the Teflon sheets that came had a woven denim-like texture. Did your sheets have a fibrous texture? It seems like that's what's at the posted link now, but it almost created a texture imprint on the comic I was practicing on, so I had to abandon attempting this. Please advise/help. Thanks in advance!
@alternacomics
@alternacomics 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the sheets have a texture to them but it shouldn't transfer over. It sounds like your heat settings might be too high or that you might be leaving the iron on the cover for too long or using too much pressure.

I tried this on a modern book like the justice league and it works great spine looks like new. then tried it on a spiderman 6 1991 era. And same short time and pressure and left the area around the spine wavy. Would u recommend any steam on older books?
