The same thing happened to me. I was 75 miles from anywhere in Idaho when it broke. With a knife I shaped a plug for the broken disconnect and one for the hose. Got me home where I could get a new disconnect. Your video helped me get it fixed in about 15 minutes time. Thanks.

Just a guy,,,thanks for the time you spent, it helped me out big time right before a snow storm in CT. My connector broke coming home from getting some sand/salt, just made it home before overheating. Mine came off easy by hand, after rotating the disconnect tool while pushing it in from behind. The hard part for me was getting the new one snapped on, I had to use some dielectric grease on the new fitting, and finally heard 2 little clicks after pushing it on and wiggling it with a lot of force. Cant believe what some others were doing to get the old connector off...LOL

Thank you!!! This turned out to be such a simple and inexpensive repair thanks to watching your video. My local NAPA did not have the removal tool in stock, so I checked with Auto Zone and they had one! Although it looks different (cheaper looking), it worked just fine. That part # is 25052 - AC/Fuel Line Quick Disconnect Tool Set ($9.99). FYI: Use the black 3/4" tool. The actual repair took less than 10 minutes. I spent $52.93 total which included two gallons of anti-freeze. Thank you!!!!

Great video Justa Guy. I had the same exact issue (same side as well) and was getting scared about replacing the core. Then low and behold I came across your video. Truly appreciate it brother. Got it repaired in minimal time.

Great video. Mine came off just like yours with the plastic tip still in hose. I changed one then -low&behold- the other started dripping immediately. None of the stores around me had even heard of the extraction tool. A mechanic friend suggested using a small saw blade but there wasn't any room to really get a cut going. So i used a saws-all( very carefully!)& made some cuts then levered it off with a screwdriver. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips on this project. Couple things i learned while doing mine. I didn't need the puller tool that you got from autozone (my store didn't have it). I got the quick disconnect tool (similar to the one you got from Napa) from autozone. At autozone they call it a fuel and ac line disconnect tool set. Brand- OEMPN- 25052 I put it on, pushed quick connect toward the firewall, and pulled the "tool" toward me at the same time. Came off easy (by hand). **tip 2** buy 2 quick connect pieces. The second one broke on me while working on the first (old and brittle)

Thank you so much for sharing. This saved me a lot of time removing the hoses to replace the rotted connectors and do a heater core flush. To recap; here is what you need.. Napa p/n 77-4031 (the 3/4 inch disc is what you use), Dorman p/n 800-409, and Auto Zone p/n 27106. If you feel up to it, then install a Peak Radiator Flush and Fill Kit p/n PKF0AA on the hose per instructions. Perform your flush with water, then radiator flush liquid, and finally with compressed air.

Excellent, excellent video! I have to replace the heater hose which goes to a "Y" and connects to the antifreeze reservoir and a little stub hose that goes into the water pump. Well, all of this looked really simple until I looked up to where the hose goes into the heater core. I looked at that and said "Oh no! What the heck is that!" This is the second video I have viewed on the googled subject and I can tell that you have just saved me a whole lot of headache! Thank you for taking the time to help a brother out! I appreciate it!

thank you so much for the video - finding the pry bar was the most difficult part. its easier to cut the old quick disconnect off with a small hacksaw and avoid hitting the heater core nipple. might be better to directly connect the hose to the heater core nipple and avoid putting on another quick disconnect. thanks again this vid helped so much!

Thank you very much for showing me how to CRUSH that piece that was stuck inside. I had spent all afternoon replacing a manifold converter on a Chevy Colorado. They don't have a lot of room to work in and everything was just about buttoned up. All of a sudden I'm getting an antifreeze bath. On The Colorado the tubing makes a 90 degree turn just 2 inches from the firewall and goes right towards the block. The tubing allows clearance around the exhaust manifold. Anyways You would think the engineers would have left an inch and a half of pipe from the heater core out through the firewall instead of making these dumb ass disconnects. I don't know what engineer got paid to design this. It's crap. Thanks for the CRUSH tip buddy.

If you had that much trouble you did some thing wrong. That removal tool bar is just to put positive pressure against the quick disconnect removal tool ( white plastic part). That leaves your other hand free to gently twist and pull the hose off of the heater core. Heater cores are made if thin aluminum, yanking on the hoses will stress the core and most likely cause a leak, or break off the aluminum tube that connects to the core.

I replaced the quick disconnects in my 2004 chevy tahoe about a year ago with the auto zone part. The original factory part lasted 14 years and the auto zone part broke after 1 year. Midnight tow and garage service about $500 to fix properly. Sure wish I'd spent the extra $25 while going through the hassle of replacing the first time.
