recirculating is not more efficient, literally the opposite, you get a cleaner burn with cool/cold air and using inside air encourages air from the outside to leak in through your gaps..... There is zero chance of danger pulling in the exhaust as long as the intake is 2 feet or more away from the exhaust. if you are paranoid make the intake further away but the gases disperse very fast once they leave the hose man, lol... I guess you could keep a CO detector in but almost no point especially with combustion outside. I run mine inside my sealed up shop and haven't had any issues

All heaters have a maximum heating potential so depending on outside temps the heater will only be able to increase the temp to a certain degree. Yes pulling your intake air back from the already heated inside will definitely lower that demand or in more technical terms lower your fuel usage. But something as small as a camper probably wouldn’t have to worry about it. I like how this window mount is used. I bought something similar for tent camping and it works amazing and barely uses any fuel. My setup is very similar to yours and it works great. Definitely much safer than a buddy heater or using some kind of wood stove or something similar.

@@keithgee3461 An additional benefit to using the camper air as input to the heated space instead of outside air is you remove the CO (carbon monoxide) danger. The inside air is a closed loop and the CO cannot invade your breathable air without regard to how far you move the exhaust away from people. Additionally, there is no pressure differential when the input side and output side of the breathable air are the same space. When you draw fresh air from outside and try to compress it into the camper space, there is no place for it to go. The fan is trying to compress the air in the camper and the flow of air will slow down until the leak rate around every door, window and plumbing is maximized and then that will be your maximum input rate. Yes the hole on the muffler is up and really should be down especially if this were a permanent install and not short term. The canopy keeps light rain off the heater but heavy rain and wind would require the unit to be more sheltered. Thanks!

I’m sure it would have fired up in colder weather, too, but I wasn’t camping in it then. Only problem I’ve had with the heater had nothing to do with the installation or location - just a temperature sensor went out on it.

I found all the 3" ductwork at Lowes except for the flexible piece that came with the heater. I never thought the air would stay that hot being outside and no insulation.

It will run close to 24 hrs on a full tank on lowest setting. The glow plug pulls around 10 amps briefly on start up and shut down then amp draw drops down drastically.

My small "caravan" does have a factory propane furnace. This diesel heater is only an option that is easy on fuel. I enjoy camping in the back of my truck in a small "Truck Shell Camper" set up more than anything but is limited to room for one.

The "ticking" sound could be annoying to close neighbors but probably not since windows are closed in cold weather. I use a Mr Heater too and it works great. This is just an option and maybe a good choice for extended use as it is cheaper on fuel. I wish the Mr Heater and the diesel heater had the capability to shut down and start up automatically with a thermostat.

Cold is no problem but it can't get rained on. The unit is protected by the overhead canopy on the camper. If rain is blowing in under the awning, then the unit has to be protected somehow.

You would have to fabricate something but I'm not so sure I would do that. The heater in my test heated air in freezing temperatures, then forced it through a few feet of non insulated pipe/duct work, and was still too hot to hold your hand in front of the vent. Having insulated pipe might be easier and result in hotter air with less energy lost.

It's about a 1 gallon tank that lasts close to 24hrs on low. The diesel heater pulls around 10 amps for a couple minutes when it first comes on then drops way down while running - especially on low.

I don't use additives and never had a problem. Lowest temps I have used is just under 20F. Maybe since the fuel tank is enclosed above the heater helps.

That's a great question. I don't think I have seen one installed in a UTV. I'm thinking it should work while moving as long as it is installed correctly and the fuel supply is constant. Also, make sure you keep supply power on until it completes the "cool down" cycle to prevent damage.

I have checked on line and it seems they can be left on at least when they are mounted in a camper.

Use the main controller to put the heater in temperature mode which works kind of like a thermostat. You can then use the main controller or remote control to adjust the temperature setting. The temperature sensor is inside the main controller so it needs to be in the room that is being heated. In this video, the temperature mode would not work since I have the unit sitting outside and the main controller is still attached to the unit. I have another video that shows me using this same heater inside my basement in which I can use the temperature mode effectively. A good thing to know is that when using the "temperature/thermostat" mode, the heater never actually shuts off. It will eventually just run at the lowest setting once the desired temperature is reached then run at a higher setting if things start to cool down. Hope this helps. Thanks!

The all-in-one style diesel heater is just an option for heat if someone feels they have a reason to use it. I can think of a few reasons why I would and wouldn't use this. I also use this heater to heat the camper shell on my truck in cold weather. Since I can't fit a sound deadening box inside my case, I swapped out the factory fuel pump with an "ultra quiet" version that isn't quiet at all. There was a slight improvement at best. These diesel heaters are waaaaay more efficient. You could stay out dry camping for weeks on less than 5 gal of diesel. The central heating in these trailers gobble up propane to the tune of roughly a gallon every three hours. Another problem with them is battery comsumption. They can pull around 8 to 9 amps. The diesel heaters only use about 9 amps for the short ignition time then only use just less than one amp. So, from the electrical and fuel perspective, diesel has propane beat 10-1. A portable 100 watt or better yet a portable 200 watt panel will keep the batteries topped off. I have the Renogy 200 watt suitcase panel and it is quite awesome. I also carry along a small generator but I try not to use it if possible. I have camped out in Idaho for a month and a half at a time. I use a Katadyn filter to gather water straight from the river. My only reason to go to town was to purchase damn propane. Two 30# bottles only last a week or two. I will be installing one of these in my trailer very soon.

It hold about a gallon. I have never left it on high for a long period of time. I run it mostly on low and it lasts probably 24 hours or so on a tank of fuel.

If you look close you can see the small remote I use to start the unit. In this application, I use the "manual" setting that determines how fast the fuel pump cycles which controls the heat output. If the main controller is extended and mounted inside the heated area, then you can also set the controller to a specific temperature and the unit will try to maintain that temperature similar to a thermostat in your house. One big difference is the heater never actually shuts off when using the automatic temperature setting, it just drops to the lowest setting when the set temperature is reached.

It depends on how high you run it. I think it will go over 24 hours straight on low setting on a tank of fuel (about a gallon). These heaters are known for being easy on fuel. That's why I have one in my basement. Thanks!

If you turn it on High, I can watch the fuel level slowly go down. It burns a lot on high.

I wouldn't go too small on ducting especially running on high. There are models that have smaller ducting but with 4 smaller outlets for attaching ducting instead on one larger outlet.

I have a portable stool I can set the unit on and there is a stainless steel shield mounted on the very bottom of the heater against the ground. The heat is surprisingly very hot coming out of the uninsulated duct without using return air duct but it would probably be more efficient that way. Thanks for the tip!

the exhaust pipe won't ignite anything it's not touching, I have mine piped out half an inch away from a wood beam and in 10+ hours running the wood is still cold (siding it's coming out of is aluminum). I do have mine elevated 1.5 inches off some 2x4 scraps, above concrete though

The extra long exhaust pipe keeps fumes away from the back of the unit where fresh air is pulled in and heated.
