Love this video for student figuring out what they want to do in accounting. I work in public accounting auditing government entities and I definitely feel you when it comes to some odd audit rooms 😂 I have been in a few closets/file rooms. I’m actually a senior/in-charge and still working on my CPA because working it into my busy senior schedule is so difficult. Definitely recommend people starting in a slower field than public or somewhere that they can stay a staff longer in order to study and get that over with before moving up and taking on more responsibility at work. Loving your opinions and takes on different routes!

Accounting is financial accounting. Majoring in accounting would ope the doors for you to purse a variety of careers. Popular ones being public accounting, industry work, or government accounting. You can find your way into tax or audit - or neither. The accounting major is a desirable route and you should not struggle finding a decent job after graduation.

You tell it like it is. Glad I found your content! I’m a junior taking Intermediate 2, which is interesting but difficult - and AIS, which I love. I have yet to take auditing and taxation. In your opinion, which accounting class was the most difficult for you? and which did you like the best?

Honesty about the profession is what inspired me to create a KZfaq channel so I'm glad you found me! Haha, intermediate accounting was by far the most challenging for me. Lol and it's slapping me in the face now as I study for FAR for the CPA exam. Auditing was my favorite course. I did not like taxation at all. It did not come naturally to me at all - I had to work extra hard in both of my taxation courses. Hopefully you find the right niche for you to enter in the accounting world! There are so many routes you can take

Hello, I’m looking into Forensic accounting and the place I’m looking at says I need 2 years of accounting experience at a job and a B.S. or M.S . In accounting. Doesn’t say anything about cpa but do you think I would even need my cpa if it’s private accounting? I would really like to not have to take my cpa if I don’t have to. I don’t feel like I would do well on it, I normally don’t do well on test that are over such a broad spectrum of content that I’ve learned.

Jordan Laterreur awesome! I highly recommend this accounting route - it’s so fun and has so many benefits. The Comptroller’s office actually had its own booth at our accounting gala (where all the accounting firms came to my school to recruit) my junior year and I talked to the lady there. I’m not sure how other states’ offices are operated but ours accepts applications year round and high GPA applicants are given thorough interviews. So I would say check your state’s website or give them a call and possibly email your resume and hopefully you get an interview!

Great video! I got a bach in psychology in 2013 but want to be an accountant so I want to go back to school this year. Still have tons of student loan debt and hate to add more but finally getting the career I really want is worth it. Do you know any good jobs I could do while starting school or maybe before? I was thinking some type of auditing job or AP/AR job where a degree is needed to get my feet wet while I go after the degree. I'm trying to learn as much as possible on AP/AR jobs currently. Also since I do have a degree I'm hoping some credits from core classes transfer so I don't have to take 4 yrs to get an accountant degree. Also with my old degree and accountant degree combined I'll have over 150 hrs for the CPA :).

I did almost the same thing. My 1st undergrad was in sociology. I went back for my accounting degree when my son was 2 months old. I have been doing general accounting (a little bit of everything) for a private company for the last 7 years and am taking my last section of the CPA exam next Thursday.

I want to do Public Accounting becuase the lifestyle and money but I’m not really sure what you do on a daily basis? Is it hard? What’s the hardest and easiest type of accounting? Do you have to get ur CPA if you want more money? What u said really scared me lol, in public accounting you have to constantly be moving on calls etc, sounds very hard. Which type of accounting would be good for a slow worker and support.
@HeavensAudventure
@HeavensAudventure 5 жыл бұрын
"hard" is a very subjective way to describe a job haha it just depends what you're experienced with and what work you prefer best. I'd definitely say if you're interested in the public accounting lifestyle - to give it a shot. I will also say yes - you will most likely have to commit to sitting for the CPA exam if you plan to work in public. That certification becomes more and more important every day. Whatever route you choose to take, you will have guidance in some form when you're new so don't be intimidated! And if you don't like it, you can start job shopping again elsewhere. Everybody is different so it's hard to take one person's experience and use it to determine how you will like a particular job.

I’m so glad I’ve found your video. Sooo, I don’t have any accounting background at the moment, I’ve graduated with a bachelors degree in nutrition. That didn’t work for me so I’m going back for a masters in degree. I’ve found a university close by having a master program for non accounting major. So that’s what I’m gonna do.. Right now I just need to study and take my GMAT and also I’m actually gonna take a fundamental accounting class at a college so I know what it’s like before I’m actually going for it. I’m kinda nervous cuz haven’t been back to school after working for a few years. Please give me more advice about accounting?! Thank you so much
@HeavensAudventure

pinkie09999 if you’re good with numbers, enjoy math, and like puzzles - I’d say accounting is a good path to tackle! There are many routes of accounting to take so you shouldn’t feel stuck. Essentially you can get an accounting degree and not do accounting at all but your chances of being hired in any business role is higher than a general business degree. Best of luck to you and I’m glad you found my channel! I have done several videos since this one so check them out! Let me know if I can help!

Heaven's Audventure I’m trying to look for a job while going to school but haven’t had any luck yet. They all require some kind of experience in accounting which I lack ): Did you work while going to school before? Any tips on getting your foot in the door?! Thank you so much for replying.
@HeavensAudventure
@HeavensAudventure 5 жыл бұрын
pinkie09999 I worked 2-3 jobs at a time while in school but they were not accounting related until I had my internships. I worked at a sports store, I was a cleaning maid, a Christmas elf, a dog sitter, a cashier, haha everything that does not involve accounting. It is hard to get your foot in the door without knowing anyone. Internships are key but those may come later.

Hi Heaven, love the content covered in this video. It's my understanding that government audits are more compliance audits than actual financial statement audits is that true? Also if you can't share which government agency you work for can you perhaps share some names of some of the government agencies that you know of that do audit work? (aside from the IRS) THANKS
@HeavensAudventure
@HeavensAudventure 5 жыл бұрын
I will debunk your theory for Tennessee government! Haha we have four or so audit divisions and they are divided into two main types - those that do financial audits of financial statements (the side I'm on) and then those that do compliance audits. I have not been on a compliance audit so I can't compare them well but to answer your question - Yes, government work can and will still audit financial statements. Every state government is set up and operated differently so I can only speak for Tennessee. I hope this answered some of your question! Thanks for reaching out
