😂 I love the 100% clear bafflement you express at the end as you throw up your hands: ‏למה זה נשים, ‏עזים!? That’s such a great way to convey empathetic exasperation with students. 😂 For all my love of etymology and curiosity of why vocabulary and grammatical structures have come about, sometimes in my Latin classes I just have to say: “Nesciō! Sed ita est.” 🤷‍♂️😆 Another incredibly well written, executed, and produced video. It’s well past when I should go to sleep, but I’ve sacrificed Hebrew study for work all week, and I’m too enamored with this language and it’s wonderfully addictive presentation in these videos not to at least see what the subject pronouns are!

I remember years ago in one of my modern Hebrew lessons, some students were asking about the reasoning behind some grammar rule I can´t remember but the teacher also shrugged and said "ivrit lo disneyland" (meaning: Hebrew is not a holiday, basically). Best regards

I am beyond grateful for this free content. Thank you thank you for your faithfulness and generosity in making these. I’m using them to supplement other tools for self-study after listening to a biblical linguistics podcast that recommended diversifying your learning methodologies beyond the the average “working through a grammar textbook” that seems to prevalent even in seminaries. So thanks to these videos I’m able to add more speaking, listening, and correlating vocabulary with pictures, all at my level of Hebrew. Thank you for all the work put into these videos. They are blessing many hungry students 🙏🙏

@@fadiaentreprenariat2241 Check the description for their website for more resources, and watch the intro video for how to use their videos as it helps explain the method they are using. They really are supplying enough materials to get a grasp of Biblical Hebrew. On their website they have “Learning Schedule”, Scripts where you can read along with the video, and even when you have learned more, or have issues, Grammar Lessons, these are explained in other languages. The scripts are all Biblical Hebrew and contain an amazing amount of “grammar “ as well. But from experience, watching the videos, including reviewing them as many times as you need, will really help you learn the language. I’ve known how to read Biblical Hebrew for years, as I taught my son, but I could not retain vocabulary meaning from written material…ie flashcards. Their method utilizing visual and auditory simultaneously has been key for my to breakthrough that barrier. Blessings! Another tip you might want to try is in the beginning NOT trying to translate back and forth into your native tongue and then into Biblical Hebrew. Just watch and learn in Biblical Hebrew. You might not feel like you are learning but you are. Also if you can immerse yourself in the language, by playing the videos a lot for a week or two it can help. I started but didn’t have a lot of time and then could NOT touch it for a few weeks. When I came back to it, I had a few weeks were I was able to focus on it initially and that really helped. Even if I can’t WATCH the videos, I pick older videos to turn on and play in the background as I go about my day. It’s amazing how that can help train the ear, even without focusing your attention on learning.

I am so happy to have discovered your course last weekend! This is a wonderful gift from God. I'm so grateful. This is a dream come true. Your program is just perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have 2 little questions right now: 1)when you ask "ma zot?" instead of "ma ze?", it means that you already know if the thing is feminine rather than masculine, right? But I guess in real life, let's say in the case of a small child who learns the language, one does not know whether this or that is feminine or masculine. Do you understand what I mean? Then as a beginner is it ok to just say "ma ze?"? 2) What is the rule about the changes of "va" / "u" (and), as in "the bulls and the cows"? Thanks in advance and cheers from Italy! I'm praying for you. Marion
@AlephwithBeth
@AlephwithBeth 2 жыл бұрын
Shalom Marion, welcome! :) Yes, your question makes sense. We don't really have enough evidence of simple questions like that in the biblical text to know for sure how it would have been done in biblical Hebrew. I suspect that Modern Hebrew speakers would use "mah zeh?" to ask if they don't know the name/gender of an object, but I can't say for sure as I don't really speak Modern Hebrew. I would say that it's totally fine to just use "mah zeh?" when in doubt. You can read about the rules of the ve/u variation in our accompanying grammar lessons which you can find on our website: freehebrew.online/resources/ Thank you for your prayers! :)

Glad you're enjoying the lessons! Our early lessons might be helpful for a beginner who wants to learn Modern Hebrew to learn some of the basic grammar and the alphabet, but in the long run, our videos aren't going to help someone understand conversational Israeli Hebrew much, and if they use the phrases and pronunciation learned in our videos, they may sound very old fashioned and funny. 😃 So I think after roughly 20-30 lessons, it would be better to look for a resource specifically for modern Hebrew.
