A pipe march “composed by Pipe Major James ‘Pipie’ Robertson of Boyne, Banffshire, in 1915 when he was a prisoner of war in Germany. According to Norman Kennedy, the ‘Creeks’ refers to the Native-American tribe the Creek Indians and not streams.” The World War I ballad “The 51st Higland Regiment’s Farewell to Sicily”, also known as “Banks of Sicily”, lyrics by Hamish Henderson, is based on and sung sung to the melody of the march “Farewell to the Creeks”

Thanks… actually the flatter pitch was kind of accidental… I’m not playing with a band and just never measured… I played with an accordionist pal and was surprised that I didn’t have to swop for my Bb chanter… I’m actually sharper now but thinking of going back down

@@NeilClark-FalkirkPiping I see, interesting, what chanter type are you playing? I'm thinking of getting a flatter one myself, I always love the dark, fat tone of a flatter chanter, it's especially noticeable on the B note!

@@Goetterdaemmerung86 It's an Ayrfire by the Ayrshire Bagpipe Company with a reed by Colin Maclellan. I better put a rider on this tho.... the accordionist I was playing with may have had an instrument that perhaps wasnt exactly tuned, BUT.. it wouldn't have been far away. Bb is a much more stable pitch and I do play with other instruments a lot, so I may well head towards Bb for the foreseeable future .... I've competed successfully in solos with this pitch too, so it must be acceptable to the ear.. I just didnt realise I was way down there to begin. Oh, the model is the one with the elongated HG...

Great location equaled by the tune and the playing. I would like to here the Old Woman's Lullaby played at the Tappoch Broch. I played that tune there in 1973 when I was on leave. I have been in Nigeria for the past twelve years and feel a wee bit homesick.
