This is my first time on your channel and really like it. You are so right. I have a skx007j, Alpanist sarb01b7 and a Samurai STO. I BOUGHT MY FIRST HEIMDALLR A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY. The one I got is the Turtle and man, it's quality is as good as my Seikos......
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
I love my Seikos so it was hard to accept that Heimdallrs are just as good (and in some ways better) but I can't deny it. Excellent watches and I will be buying more for sure.

I just ordered a lime green Sea Shepherd after watching this video. It will fill two voids in my collection. The shape and color are unlike any of my other watches. Recently bought a purple Straton Speciale for the same reason.

Awesome, I'm sure that you will love it. Heimdallr is a great brand from what I've experienced so far (I've had one poorly made watch from them but forgiveable because everything else has been 10/10)
@tarasmathers74232 жыл бұрын
The Miltat "Super Engineer" took that "tuna" to a whole different level.... You know, I've never really scratched a crystal on a watch.....be it Sapphire (obviously), flame fusion, hardlex/K1, or standard mineral. And believe Me, there have been quite a few "run-in's" with door knobs and such, that it definitely should have. You know......the kind that when it first happens, your heart immediately drops, because in your mind you think to yourself, "that was definitely not good." All that being said, you know what those many moments have taught Me???? That it's actually a lot harder to scratch, even a mineral crystal, than people think. Having a sapphire crystal, does give you a bit more piece of mind though. Great review
@degenerateWA2 жыл бұрын
I've scratched a few non-sapphire crystals but you're right: they're not fragile by any means. It all boils down to personal preference and comfort levels. I don't mind a non-sapphire crystal, but if you gave me a choice, it would be sapphire every single time.

I am a big fan of the the tuna style watch. By design it's tough, and very easy on the wrist. I have a Heimdallr black and gold 1km, and a SteelDive blue dial. Next up will be a bronze and green dial version. Looking at a San Martin. Thanks for the review!

That was an excellent review from a regular-person point of view. Much appreciated. I have a couple of questions. 1) Does the Heimdallr take the fat 2.5mm Seiko spring bars? and 2) Does the ease of removal of the ratcheting bezel for cleaning/maintenance/replacement (if fine sand got into it at the beach, for instance) on Seiko Vs Heimdallr bother you?
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын

I totally agree with your opinion about. I love my Seikos skx007j and my Alpinist sarb017 but those are very special watches and didn't t mind paying a little more but I love my Sharkey capt. Willard and with the exception of the crown screw in , I feel that it is better ability then Seiko....
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
You would love the Heimdallr Monster then. I can safely say that I think it far exceeds a standard Seiko Prospex.
@termit5203 жыл бұрын
It's not just affordable and good looking, it's basically the same like a real Tuna. I would say that's unbelieveable value for the money. I'm considering buying of some Heimdallr's watches just like some kind of an entrance in the world of automatic watches....i'm not too excited about that but i would like to see how is to wear an automatic despite i hate them. But not Tuna, that's too big and too heavy for my wrist, maybe some of their pilot watches....38-39 mm is really sweet for me. I like Heimdallr....a lot, they could stop to squeeze that poor NH35 and put some swiss ETA inside, maybe even ETA quartz.....but it is what it is. (There's no more Seiko purists, luck for everybody, they died in a last century, they was old....:-)) Nice video Simucom, really nice watch.
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
These are great because if you hate it then you haven't spent too much, but I'm sure you will enjoy the NH35 movement. It's not perfect and I think a lot of people over value it, but as long as you understand that it's a mass-produced budget movement then you should enjoy what it's capable of. Either way, quartz or analog, just off of the price alone these Heimdallrs are great. I really want to continue to buy Seiko, but as of now there's just no reason to.
@thenande3 жыл бұрын
One superior design thing about the heimdallr tuna than the seiko is when you put it sideways on the crown side on a table the crown doesnt touch the table so there is less possibility of structural or surface damage on the crown.
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, I didn't even think about that, but that's definitely another great reason to love this brand even more.

Off topic but I was browsing through your videos and you had one watch on a Nato strap. The rave right now is those Erica's MN straps. I am not paying 80 dollars for one of those and waiting for a month to get it. I ordered one from the Watch Steward. I see they have some on Amazon, since you order alot of you watches from Amazon have you ordered any of these MN straps from them and if so what do you think of them ?
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
Never heard of them and I also would not spend that much for a nylon/fabric strap, especially when the quality of my $15-$30 NATO bands are excellent. I do like the way they look and they seem comfortable. I'm sure they would look great on any kind of pilot watch too.
@12hebrewtribes3 жыл бұрын
@@degenerateWA Here is a funny....I picked up this week one of those magnet bands that Apple came out with for 230 dollars. I got one off Amazon for 10 dollars. I was impress with it how comfortable it was. I tossed it on my new Seiko street series watch. I knew better then to place it on an automatic. The next day the watch was 9 hours fast. I forgot the hands were magnetic.

By far what is the best homage tuna as per your findings?? Is it The heimdallr, San Martin,Proxima or The Steeldive?? Let me make it easy on you as for me I feel The Heimdallr is far ahead n would like to know your response
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
The Heimdallr is the only Tuna homage I own. I was so satisfied with the quality that I found no need to look elsewhere for another homage. Now if there was a Tuna homage with a better caseback then I would look into that because I feel that the Heimdallr casebacks are merely "okay". Not bad, not good, but it comes with the watch.

Great review & cpmparison. Did you consider San Martins tuna?
@degenerateWA3 жыл бұрын
I have considered them. I do have a San Martin in mind (not a Tuna though), but they're currently on a Chinese New Year break until the 19th so I'm going to wait on ordering the watch until then. The reason why I won't buy a San Martin Tuna is because I don't think the difference will be all that much compared to my Heimdallr. I've heard San Martin quality is better but personally I'm happy with the Heimdallr. Maybe in the future when I have some extra cash just laying around I'll order one from San Martin and do a comparison.
@randomthoughts25902 жыл бұрын
@@degenerateWA I am wondering if the price of the miltat and the heimdallr added together would be similar to a san martin - assuming san martin's bracelet is at the same quality as a se II.

I love the look of the Tuna but it seems like it would be like wearing a small barbell on your wrist all day. I have the Monsters and they're very top heavy. I would expect the Tuna to be even more so. Heimdallr I can recommend though. Seiko is just getting too big for their britches.
@degenerateWA2 жыл бұрын
A common opinion you will hear about Tunas is that they're big but wear very comfortably and I have to agree with that opinion. The way the lugs are positioned make for an intuitive design that allows for a visually large watch that doesn't interrupt wrist function the way a large watch normally would. I'll always love Seiko, but I don't love them to the point where I'm going to miss out on these other more affordable brands that give me the same level of satisfaction.
@jeffreygleaves29312 жыл бұрын
@@degenerateWA Seiko started it all but $1400 for a Captain Willard and Heimdallr can give you the same watch for $165? I would be afraid to wear a high dollar Seiko Willard. One scuff and you've clipped a couple hundred bucks off the value of a watch. Heimdallr is building a rep. for itself though. All they need to do is hire their own designers and they could take over the working man's watch market.
