This crash test of a small, lightweight helicopter at Langley Research Center was a smashing success, literally -- just as NASA engineers had predicted. (mp4)

this is perfect....they only have to do one more thing to ensure that there will be no more helicopter crash fatalities and that is figure out a way to make all disabled helicopters land on their skids (or put skids on all 4 sides)

so should the shids on the top of the helicopter be mounted to the roof, or to the rotor blades ? But lets be honest here, what really needs to happen is the government should end the ban on putting ejector seats in heli's. Helicopter Pilots Lives Matter too!

My only regret with that test is that they weren't using a Robbo.

Now that we love rich people again...kinda...some of them...my question is as follows..some race car driver can hit the wall at 200 mph..and survive..but the same in a a plane isn't surviveable..should I make a three point harness and tubular experiemental plane? Could those legs be cross cross shocks? or air bags?

well, it's different when something crashes against a wall compared to something crashing into the ground, because the walls have cushioning, but the ground is stiff.

Why don't helicopters have underside airbags that would significantly cushion the impact of a crash?
@JonathanCullifer8 жыл бұрын
A lot of helicopters have crush zones built in under the seats.
@bklock78 жыл бұрын
I'd still want an airbag that stretches along the entire underside of the passenger pod... and interior side airbags to prevent heads from hitting the inside of the cabin during a crash. In addition to any crush zones... because in a crash you'd want as much protection as you might need to avoid serious injury. Sort of like when Harrison Ford crashed his plane during the time they were still filming Star Wars:The Force Awakens ... if his crash had been a little more severe he would have needed additional safety devices to avoid a more serious injury.

Max weight for this helicopter is about 3100 pounds ....four average people inside at 200 pounds each .....plus 64 gallons of fuel ...about 435 pounds....weight reduction become critical keeping that bird aloft.
