Don't know if this will be read but I feel this is the best place to tell a story. In one of my games I was defending with an MG on a flank. There was another gunner from a second squad near by and we both got into a rhythm with each other. I would fire a short burst then they would fire a short burst and we kept alternating. When one of us was empty we would call it out and the other would dump what they had left while the other was reloading. Together with just a SL pointing out compass ranges to lay down fire the three of us held off an entire flank causing the enemy to call in a tank to dislodge us from our positions. That was one of the best moments in my years of gaming that I have ever had even though we got blown up in the end.

"Talking guns" it's called. On the receiving end it's just a literal constant barrage of fire.

One tactical opt6ion I use is send down range short burst. Stop. Wait. then begin again. THEN... change belts before I know I will run dry. This, in some cases, fools the enemy into thinking that I am now reloading. Of course, they are surprised when I open back up. This works good in a small area defending such as Center Town. Let them fool themselves is what it boils down to. Good firing!

A trick I use. Natural elevation points. At 2:09 you're set up and laying down cover fire. But later a few squad members toss smoke. At like 3:30 you are laying cover fire but who knows where? To fix this I use natural elements to help. Look at the tree to the left. There's 2 branches that perfectly align with the horizon that could give you a better chance at hitting enemies and covering your squad. Treets to the right offer the same. The first tree to the right has missing branches that looks like a hole. The bottom of the hole is also a good reference to use as an elevation guide when the smoke is thick and you need to lay down covering fire at enemies setting up and ambush. Happy hunting yall.

I hope they add a "Supression" count in the future and add it to your score. I think it would help give MG players more incentive to focus on a more support role.

Iv been playing this unit this way as well. It’s nice to know I’m not doing something completely useless. My end game stats are low, but I feel like I help keep pressure on the enemy. Thanks for the video!

This game this is all I really had the opportunity to do, but usually I play different styles in a match depending on the situation. Everyone always appreciates the covering fire though.

The enemy was probably getting exhausted with the constant fire. Even a sniper couldn't see you through the fog. Good Vid Geb.. Entertaining.

Squaddies pings are very important. One downside of this style is that you are easily spotted, specially if playing with MG 42. I'd rather fire small bursts over known enemy positions, not just at their direction
@GebatronGaming
@GebatronGaming 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Pings and/or a spotter make you much more effective. You’ll definitely be spotted and while the distance will help mitigate that fact it is definitely not a guarantee. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Another awesome video guide, cheers Gebatron. Also a huge +1 for reiterating the fact this game isn't about K/D. The more people keep reinforcing that message, the better.
@GebatronGaming
@GebatronGaming 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! A positive K/D ratio is something I definitely strive for, but the object is to take/hold ground. Sometimes putting others in a better situation is more important than being in an ideal situation yourself. Thanks for the continuing support!

@@GebatronGaming oh for sure, me too by all accounts it's great to see a decent ratio. You've touched on a really good point though about those intangibles. I like to think some of those will eventually come to the game - suppression effects are already tangible in other games, so that one is probably more feasible at least.

It would be really neat to see a suppression stat.

I have to say that a couple days ago i bought the game and as i am a beginner to this kind of games, i had little to no idea of what to do, so i watched couple of videos. (Never played BF or any of theese kind of shooters) Then after i started to find my way of playing by trying different roles, i was a bit discouraged that it will be a so lengthy learning process. That quickly went out of my mind when i tried out the Machine Gunner role, for the first time i had multiple kills and contributed a lot to the succes of the team by doin almost exactly that is shown in the video. I was suprised how fast i could get used to it.

you should always call ... "MG - Cover(ing) fire - short bursts" (and a direction like 180) - so people know whats happening too..

@@GebatronGaming same as Oz Army commands (and most troops I think).. stuff like "Danger Far/Near - light/heavy contact (clock/compass direction if possible)", "Danger Close, heads down" etc.. makes it a bit more realistic and helps your squaddies..

It's been a few years since this was made and tactics against a MG has gone to outflanking it so far as come into the rear. I believe many use the Japanese's tactic of allowing the enemy to pass through them and await to strike them in the rear. Very few SL see this and ignore it. Confusion in the rear is on the rise. Need to clear out ground taken and not suppose it has been.

Do you know how suppression is actually applied? Like, do bullets firing near targets apply suppression or is it bullets landing near it?
@GebatronGaming
@GebatronGaming 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know the technical details. Just that bullets, explosions, and heavy weapons fire all cause the “game mechanic” suppression when they occur near you. The suppression I refer to in the video though is less about the game mechanic and more about just harassing the enemy and never letting them get comfortable in a spot. Maybe I’ll look into this further in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!
