There`s a possibility that the 'La Sirene' was not a real ship, a kind of controversy among ship historians. This model is really the Le Phenix, a French ship built in 1664. Heller added the high stern cabin, the small galleries at the bow, and the large figurehead of 'Lori' the mermaid that must sale out to over 30 feet! In other words, Heller created this model from the Le Phenix to get 2 its from the same mold.I built the Phenix about 20 years ago for a friend. I bought the Sirene at a model train show maybe 9 years ago and built it for myself. Even if it`s 'more Hollywood than history', it`s still a magnificent model from that most interesting era of shipbuilding , the late 17th century. You did a fine job, I really love your builds and videos!

I thought your Vasa build was fun, but the La Sirene looks to be even more fun! Personally, I like the red lines along the hull as it makes it pop! As for the ship being real or not, I don't think it matters. What's important is the fun it gives building it, and this kit has lots of that. Looking forward to part 2!

There's a trick with vacuum-formed sails where you soak a thin piece of cloth in starch, and lay it over the plastic to use as a mold. Let it dry and trim and paint to fit.

Patients and skill yield excellent results.

Hand painting all of that gold on the stern would drive me nuts!!!!!

Another fantastic model Alex. As a side question I need to build a wooden base to protect the HMS Victory, do you have The overall length of the ship including the bowsprit?

What to do with traces of glue on painted parts? And how tightly do the parts stay in place if you glue them onto painted parts? And about the threads from this video, how to remove shaggyness?

I wish he did the "Phenix" instead. That ship existed; whereas the "Sirene" didn't. They are the same kit except for the one sprue with the bow and stern decorations.

Hi there. I live the work you do. I have a question. From 20:20 you are painting the deck with a varnish like substance to bring out the color. What do you apply here? A blanc coating?

What gold paint did you use? I’ve never seen handbrushed metallic paint turn out like that.
