Imai sailing ships are the best! And the Napoleon is my favorite of them all.

Star date: April 4, 2022. Not too far out from getting down and dangerous, the final tidying up of a U-Boat and ready for static display behind glass. Then it's a change in navies - two WW2 opponents - Germanys Kreigsmarine and a United States Navy Gato boat, both kits produced in baseball bat big, 1/72 scale? I reckon that in around a month, I'll be keeping a weather eye out for another kit to build, the next will be a surface vessel. Watching HH building ship models is helping me make some choices 9f kits to build. So far undecided, but close to pressing the buy button and have a kit on its way. So big time thanks heaps for these previously broadcast presentations. Rest easy that although some of these videos can be over two years since their first showing here on YT, their value is still fresh for some of us who weren't around when they were first broadcast. An excellent resource for kit builders around the world.

Harry, the platforms on the masts above the lowest sails were called the fighting tops. It was from one of these, the mizzen, that a French Sniper put down Lord Nelson.

I have that kit as well, but I think I got an original Japanese one, with both Japanese and English instructions, AND _with_ sails as plastic molds, white thin plastic. The instructions for the rigging that I have seem to be a little more detailed for that purpose. This is one of the most rarest kits our there, and I was just lucky to get my one some 5 years ago for "only" 150 USD. The old price tag that is still on the box said it once was even 515 USD! I did not start yet with this kit, because - as You said - the rigging details are simplified, and I put much time into research to fix that, making my own plans. I reconstructed many rigging, just not for this particular one. This kit deserves exclusive attention when building, it is in the same quality class as the large Heller/Airfix kits. I loved to see this video! At least one more model builder except me has it.

Harry is correct, Imai [ship kits] are usually excellent- I was lucky to get mine over 30 years ago [this model] and even then it was EXpensive! But a beautifull example of what a plastic model SHOULD be- Keep Going Harry!! And please build this one, i would love to get your take on the [less than] impressive rigging- i researched mine a lot, major additions!

I have this beautiful kit from about 30 years ago, along with the USS Constitution and the Chebek of the Barbary Pirates, and I think a medieval cog.

Great kit Harry, its to bad other manufacturers don't put that much care in their kits.

Define "reasonable price" because I haven't been able to even look at one for under $ 400 (US). She looks like a beauty. I'm a big fan of Imai kits, I've built a dozen of them. The directions can be wanky, but are usually reasonably clear (depending on the year of manufacture the English can be fun to read). The fit is superb, the detail for the most part is superior to other plastic kits. The accuracy is pretty good and with a little painting these kits turn out really nice. Looking forward to seeing your build.

Loved the kit Harry, some great detail on it, looks like it will build into a cracking ship. I am in the midst of building another cracking kit which is much smaller, but has so much beautiful detail on it I couldn't resist. Check out Pyros Santa Catarina do Monte Sinai Carrack, yes it's an old kit from the 60's but it is truly beautiful in detail.

I noticed that you sound much more sedate unlike now which is much more cheeky. That's more like it 😜

If you build this,what about putting some flicker LED’s in the hull to represent oil lamps etc?

Looks like a beautiful kit, Harry. One thing that surprises me though is the lack of any type of blocks. Will you be adding those? If so, what will you use?
