I hand-on-heart was at Pinewood Studios in the audience for this taping of "The Golden Child" & had no idea that we would witness the death of Denholm!! On the night Matt Berry was sooo nervous playing Douglas that he messed up his lines a ton & there was a lot of giggling by the cast during the vibrate scenes 😂😂

I believe the actor playing Denholm had other commitments and had to leave. On the flip side, we get the tremendous Matt Berry instead. Swings and roundabouts!

Matt Berry is tremendous, but not in this. Not his fault, apart from deciding to take the role. This series was a bad introduction to Matt Berry for me! If only Chris Morris had stayed!

At the time of The IT Crowd's original run, I was already a massive fan of Chris Morris, from his previous work on shows like The Day Today and Brass Eye. However, I felt he was always underwhelming in this role and never really matched the vibe of the show. When Matt Berry took over, I felt it was a far better fit and preferred his performances in this role far more.

Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade were both in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace before this. That's a 6 episode free-to-watch gem of a piss-take on badly made TV shows and bad horror writers. The creators have allowed it to be uploaded complete on YT on multiple channels, so there is a very low likelihood of them doing copyright nuisance to you if you decide to react to it.

For me, the best episode of the I.T. crowd. Both actors playing the managers were very funny. Pity you had to cut the old boss 'stepping down'.

It's just occurred to me that this episode heavily features death which will seem remote to you compared to myself who was middle-aged when I first saw it. There's a theory of comedy that says we laugh at what scares or unsettles us. You seem fairly clever. If you give it some thought you may agree. Anyway, it's all subjective of course.

When the Chris Morris character committed suicide, it was a reference to Robert Maxwell of Mirror group Newspaper. His daughter, Ghislaine Maxwell is probably well known to everyone watching for other reasons.

I hated Matt Berry when he appeared. I knew all the regular characters, and suddenly some annoying stranger had appeared and was taking up screen time. In time I found him a much more amusing character than Denholm.

Good episode, Douglas is a really funny Boss as you will find out in later episodes. If you want to react to an even funnier series than The IT Crowd, check out a UK comedy show called "Facejacker". Basically it features the now famous comedian/film actor Kayan Novak, disguising himself as various eccentric characters and comedy trolling the public. To get a feel of the show, good clip to start on might be. "Dufrais At The Baseball Game | Facejacker " (the 8.47 minute clip) or "Brian Babonde Takes A Painting Class | Facejacker ". Facejacker is the funniest show I have seen this century, nothing has topped it.

This is probably my fave episode, tho hard to pick. The funeral especially is very funny, very far from my actual experience of Christiam funerals. Also im fairly sure that in the church of england (im assuming this is anglican) all vicars are priests.

As a non-native speaker.. I often feel a bit of an "Impostor syndrome" whenever I think someone who (probably) is a native speaker say something and I think they are just being plain wrong.. So.. I apologize if I am wrong, but I am CONVINCED I am not.. "So the It compartment is still there".. No, no, and again f*g no.. not at all.. not acceptable. (oh, did I mention that I have been diagnosed with autism type 1- think of it as "Asperger').... It is not a "compartment" it is a department.. There is a difference.. a huge difference.. that matters.. .. fair enough, my sense of humour DOES allow me to admit that.. looking at the actual space that the IT-compartment utilizes in this corporation you COULD.. make a VERY good argument that it IS a compartment.
