Control Your Samsung Smart TV with Amazon Alexa

Smart TVs can be connected and controlled with Amazon Alexa or Google Smart home assistants. No need for a remote anymore! In this video we go through the process of connecting and controlling a Samsung Smart TV with Amazon Alexa. In order to connect your Samsung Smart TV to Alexa, you will need to download the Amazon Alexa app and also need to setup an account with the SmartThings app (all this is shown in the video).

Bravo! I’ve been walking pass my tv for months with the urge to tell alexa to turn it on or turn it off and thinking I couldn’t! like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzfaq.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Just recently purchased a 55 in TV series by Vizio. Pretty happy with the TV overall. The picture is stunning and comparable to most of the high contrast televisions out today. I am controlling most of my home lighting and the Vizio with a Google home. I can tell it to turn on the television to a particular Channel or tell it to play Spotify to a particular Channel and it'll turn on the TV and do as told.

I followed your video approximately a year ago and it worked. Recently, due to updates from both Samsung and Amazon the services stopped working when I finally realized after feedbacks stating that the skills will have to be "disabled and re-enabled". Following the steps still continues to work with some improvising. Thank you sir!

*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

Great video, the only thing missing was a few more examples or even a list of all the voice commands you can use with Alexa on the Samsung TV.

Great video! I do have a question, what do I have to do if I want to video-call someone by using the new echo show but then I want to transfer the call to a tv, do I need a Alexa enabled TV? Can I just connect a web cam to my tv as well as a fire stick maybe? I’m a little bit confused haha, thank you!

Loved this. Was able to get them to connect super easily. However, I’ve found that Alexa can only turn off my TV. It can’t turn it back on lmao 😭😂😭😂

same I have a Samsung series 6 and it seems after a few minutes of being turned off it disconnects from the wifi so when you ask Alexa to turn on tv it can’t recognize it. Also for me when I first set up smartthings I was able to switch inputs and volume with Alexa but after turning everything off I can’t control inputs etc at all

I would recommend going to your play store to be sure it's installed on the device. Do this by opening the Play Store, then search for SmartThingsApp. Select the app and you should have an ‘Install’ button to select. If it’s already installed on the device then it will say ‘Open’ instead. Tap this to be taken to the app. Still having issues? If your Playstore account is logged into the computer, you can also visit this link here where you’ll be taken to the Desktop version of the PlayStore. Same for me... Just bought a new Samsung TV and hard wired it to the internet. Turning off works fine. Turning it on right after turning it off also works. But if I wait a while and the try to turn it on it says my TV is not connected .

Hello for everyone trying to turn on Samsung TV with Alexa try this if you haven't already because this help me out and finally I'm able to turn on my Samsung TV with Alexa so I just deleted the SmartThings app on the Google play store and re-downloaded it and add my TV back to the SmartThings app and it now works like a charm. I can do everything like turn off/on TV, change channels, increase/lower the volume etc.

I clicked on this video hoping that he can show me unfortunately I was dissapointed. Looks like I can't get around buying the smart hub that will allow you to turn the TV on. Its crazy that I can tell Alexa to turn everything else on and off except the TV.

Very nice. This is the procedure I finally used a few days ago. There's an alternative procedure you can use by logging into Amazon Prime, and adding your (Samsung TV) "Authorization Code." I wasn't able to find the code with the correct number of digits that works.
