Quick video I made while helping @Andrew Camarata tackle some of this welding on his Castle. Check his channel out if you haven't already!
We were using my Millermatic 211 and his Miller 251 which both lay out some nice consistent beads. The 251 is much better for constant welding without breaks.
Also, @Dan Wheeler and @Jesse Muller have been helping him build this whole roof structure. They have some pretty sweet videos on it so check them out! `

Note: For the people commenting that it wasn't right for me to post this video, please understand that I didn't think a 6-minute sneak peek would spoil his entire roof video for you. Andrew encouraged me to make/post a video and he even flew my drone for me to get the roof welding shot. I also sent him a copy of the video before posting it to make sure he was okay with everything in it. Think of this like a preview for an EPIC movie that's coming out soon. Andrew's a great guy and it was an honor to work with him. I'll be back there helping him with the blocks hopefully soon. I had no plans to do a video on HIS project, but with him suggesting to do so, how could I pass that up. Feels amazing to share my small part in a project that I think is absolutely incredible! Should I have waited for him to post his video first? I suppose in hindsight the answer is yes, but he made no mention of it and it didn't even cross my mind. I know i'll still be watching his entire roof build video. How about you?

First of all I now got a face to that one guy always appearing in his videos helping him out all the time. Always asked myself who is part of his crew and friends! And that leads me to my second argument: we should understand that you are a crew and if you post something it is because you all decided that it´s okay to do so. We just enjoy the entertainment and should appreciate what we get. Another greetings from Germany :)

Also, with that pitch and it being steel, especially after paint, it’s going to shed snow more easily than most roofs. It could likely hold 8’ deep of the wettest snow too could find :-)

I've been watching Andrew's videos for about a year or two. Thanks for posting this viewpoint. I have an idea of what his castle looks like from the inside but you tied it all together for me.

Had no idea there was a fourth Musketeer welding on the castle roof. I have been tracking Jesse & his house build for over a year. Just found this channel a couple of weeks ago - due to the CAT loader rescue piece. Been working my way through All your stuff. Loving it - hope you make enough jack to build yourself a proper shop & storage warehouse for the cool rigs you keep digging up.

The railing on the 2nd floor has a gate built in so you can use a fork lift to lift it up there from the shop. Never underestimate Andrew Camarata 😂

Andrew You might want to check out the Rhino finish they use in pick up truck beds for a coating on the metal roof. It's tough and has a rough texture that may be non slip for walking around on roof.

Is he just waiting to see what happens when you hard weld something that big? I guess I can answer my own question,-- if it's steel and it breaks, weld it again---and if it's concrete that breaks, hammer it out and pour more! But, you gotta admit, it's interesting to watch someone that operates under the freedom of open billfold act! It's as close as I'll ever get.

Thank you for sharing Andrew's dream. I always wondered how he got Permits to build this. I live in VT/ND and other states, but can't imagine the gov't allowing me to build.

SuperJamster1 he went over that in some earlier videos and had structural engineers out to look at it when he did the change from wood to all steel for roof joists. A PE stamp and building in un-incorporated areas of counties *should* let you do most things like this.

@@lukedomermuth8665 Thank you, I haven't seen a lot of his recent video, and had forgotten. It's all amazing. I do some large DIY projects myself, but nothing to the scale of Mr. Camarata work. In VT. you need a permit for an outhouse in the country, because they consider it a shed. :P

Once the sun starts shinning on that steel roof it'll become one large heat sink ! Requiring lots of insulation to prevent all that heat from radiating into the interior space of the rooms below .

What are your thoughts on having expansion joints. As the roof is now one peice. Will it expand and contract as one peice? I'm instrested in your ideas on how you could have the sheet steel move, but still be mechanically attached. Great job that Andrew and every has done.
