The block is an early 331cui that is bored 0.125 inches by Reath Automotive. The heads are 354 industrial pieces. The valves are original ones, which are actuated by an original Sig Erson top fuel solid lifter cam, which is reground by Clay Smith. Further, the motor runs a stock crank on which Jahns pistons with a 10.5:1 compression are mounted.

Sounds like a bag of spanners on idle but, damn, there isn't a better sound in the whole world than a hemi at full beans. I could listen to that all day.

The Hemi powerplant was already in it, but it had different exhaust manifolds and only two Stromberg 97's. All that has changed, it now has open headers and runs 6 rebuilt Stromberg 97's on top of a Weiand Drag Star intake manifold. The headers that are mounted now are made by Jimmy, about 3 or 4 years ago he told me.

I think I know this car and the dude driving it. Was built in Savannah, GA and my uncle (through my then step-mother) had it in Charleston, SC or the relevant area, survived a house fire (was in the connected garage) but was sold to build the new house. No idea where it is today if this is the same car, but watching this made me feel like I was punched in the gut, core memory stuff......I wouldn't be surprised if this is that car I grew up near for a few years of my childhood.

This is my favourite V8 related video. Dam I love watching this. It always puts a smile on my face. It's the closest simulation I've found to the ride I had in an AC Cobra last year. Such a glorious sound.

Don "Big Daddy" Gartlis blew his Olds engine and took the hemi out of his tow car (a chrysler) and put it in his Swamp Rat front engine dragster and forgot all about running anything else. Early hemis were limited to 30 degrees timing or they would blow. When the 426 was introduced Don pulled the timing to 40 degrees and the rest is history.

Even five years later, this video still is one of my favorites!

If the sound of that old Hemi doesn't send shivers down your spine, you have no soul. Cars like this prove why "street rods" completely miss the point!

The intake (carbs bolted to it) is called a "log" style manifold. Each side has an open area under the carbs (plenum) and as each cylinder fires it can draw gas/air mixture from the plenum. Not all cylinders fire at once, so the positioning is not as black and white as you imagine. Plus these are relatively small carbs. There are single 4-barrel carbs available that flow more than all 6 of these antique strombergs. Of course, they don't look nearly as scary!

Jimmys car was driven from California to Temple Dragstrip in Texas ran Low 12's with skinny bias ply tires then drove it back to California...!!! I have a lot of respect for this car and Jimmy is a stand-up type of guy...!!! You should see his other rides...!!!

Still find this video to be awesome, the sound quality is amazing. I like to wake up my roomaates by cranking my speakers and subwoofer and play this video half way in the middle. They hate me coz of it but love the car. Nothing like the sound of an open exhaust.

The grey primered Model A body, with gasser style, blue lexan windows, is mounted on a '37 ? '41 Ford chassis which is shortened, narrowed, boxed and Z'd in the rear. A straight axle is mounted up front and is from the same era as the chassis. Jimmy replaced the split-wishbone suspension in the back for So-Cal Speedshop hairpins.

If most people call it a rat rod......it's a rat rod. People determine the meaning of the word an any car that is driven around with shiny paint or a complete interior is commonly called a rat rod. What if he left the car rust or primer? Not matter the label, it's a badass car.
