Check out our Blown / Injected vintage 392 HEMI - Here's a little Start-Up vid to get you fired up... This thing is a rare time capsule littered with a cluster of vintage speed equipment from top to bottom. It's a '57 392 HEMI which started off life in the early 60's built for the Show Boat scene but never really made it into the water. Set into storage for 40+ years by Joe Hinkenbottom in Bakersfield CA. Freshened up a few years back & dragged out to Qld Australia where we built this ridiculously kool run stand by Craig Lockhart until we find a wicked 41 Willys Coupe to plant it in. Hope you enjoy the ride.

Great engine however the carb needs attention and A better jet kit and the timing needs to be retarded by a few degrees and then the surging will go away and it will produce allot more HP and better fuel flow

@kola360

Does anyone know why it struggles to idle like that? Is it because of the blower? It sounds amazing!
@salvatorehayes2753
@salvatorehayes2753 3 жыл бұрын
@@kola360 It's Usually The Cam That Makes It Struggle To Idle At Lower RPMs. If He Sets His Idle RPM Higher It Would Run Smooth. What Happens Is The Cam Usually Has Alot Of Overlap And Lots Of Lift And Duration. At Lower RPMs They Are Opening Up And Letting A Ton Of Air In. More Air Means More Power. This Kind Of Gets Unstable At Lower RPMs Cus All Of A Sudden You Got Alot More Air Then Needed To Maintain Low Idle Speeds. This Makes A Rapid Increase In Crank Shaft Speed Making It "Lope". Crank Speeds Up And Then Slows Down. Also Less Manifold Vacuum At Low RPMs With Aggressive Cams. I'm Not Carb Expert But I'm Guessing It's Also Pulling In Fuel Erratically With Vacuum Fluctuations. When I Put A Cam In My V6 04 Monte Carlo It Didn't Lope Cus It Was Idling Around 1100RPM. I Had The Tuner Lower It To Like 700-800 And It Got A Nice Lope To It haha. But Yea I'd Image It's The Lower RPM Speeds, The Cam And That Massive Supercharger Is Making It A Musical Marvel At Low RPMs hahaha
@kola360
@kola360 3 жыл бұрын
@@salvatorehayes2753 Huh, thank you for answering! Thats very interesting, so you say that this has nothing to do with the supercharger at all? Its such a violent fluctuation in RPM, searching for lopey idle does not show this sort. I have a hard time thinking its only the valves? I saw a real gasser once, 50s bel air or something... Anyway, that engine struggled so badly to idle, he was driving around the parking lot (with only drive in, I assume) looked like he was pumping the gas. The whole car was rocking back and forth, i cant imagine it was a comfortable ride. But i remember thinking: Cooooool. hahaha

My father brought home a vintage drag boat with a 392 Hemi motor built by eagle auto, had a tunnel ram and big four barrel. Cassell V-Drive with Hurst shifter handle, to a brass prop, foot shaped gas pedal, custom water jacketed headers, and ski tow hook assembly mounted on the motor. I only used it once, the boat had to be started with the V-drive engaged due to the horsepower, supposed be be upwards of 650 HP. The boat "idled" at about 25-30 mph pushing an 8 foot wave of water off each side before an instant tap of the gas pedal launched the boat violently out of the water and skipping across the water at a ridiculous speed. A panicked release of the gas pedal as the lake quickly was ending, resulted in what sounded like sledgehammers pounding the bottom of the wood & fiberglass hull, as it's weight and the massive Hemi engine's slowed and settled back into the water. It's only downfall was the cost to feed the Hemi fuel. Forget MPG! Under throttle more like Gallons per Mile!
